1.300-Simply amazing a monster epic with some the best battle scenes and visual effects i've ever seen
2.Grind House- Tartinguez[thanks for the term nico] made a masterpiece. One of the most orginal impressive and interesting ive seen in a while too bad it bombed. In addtion the fake trailers especailly Thanksgiving and Machete were so funny.
3. Reno 911! Miami- I love the show I loved the movie.
4. Smokin' Aces- A fun action packed thrill ride that was a hell of a good time. The plot twist i didn't see coming.
5. Blades of Glory- You gotta Love Will Ferrell and he is the best part of this figure skating comedy.
6. Norbit- Alright this movie sucked but i have only seen 6 movies so far this year so i had to put it on here.

I would appreciate some feedback on this thanks

[5] Amazing Grace
[6] The Wind That Shakes the Barley
[7] First Snow
[8] 300
[9] Black Book
[10] Zodiac

Honorable mention: Fido

My Bottom Ten of 2007, Year-to-Date:

[3] Ghost Rider
[2] The Last Mimzy
[1] Because I Said So

Dishonorable mention: Grind House (yes, I know. I love parts of it, too... But still)

P.S. transformers2, you're welcome. [Grin] At least some good came out of it.

I remain, as always...

Re:Fave Movies Of 07 So Far

Although we here in the Emerald Isle get movies a little later than you in the US (e.g. Reign Over me opens this week, Grindhouse in June [maybe], Zodiac in May), according to US releases, here's my favourite movies

1: Rescue Dawn
2: Sunshine
3: 300

That said, I've only seen 4 other movies that have been originally released in 2007, so that's not saying much. sunshine was disappointing, and 300 was just popcorn fluff (though pretty great popcorn fluff). I would rate The Lives of Others above either of those.

Of the disappointments so far, Hot Fuzz was a bummer for me. It could have been so great, but it's obvious Wright and Pegg just love action flicks too much to be funny enough with the genre.

I've seen 13 movies so far. They are, in order:

Awesome:
1. 300
2. Freedom Writers
3. Disturbia

Very Good:

Re:Fave Movies Of 07 So Far

"Vogon poetry is, of course, the third worst in the universe. The second worst is that of the Azgoths of Kria. During a recitation by their poet master Grunthos the Flatulent of his poem 'Ode to a Small Lump of Green Putty I Found in My Armpit One Midsummer Morning,' four of his audience died of internal hemorrhaging, and the president of the Mid-Galactic Arts Nobbling Council only survived by gnawing one of his own legs off. Grunthos, who was reportedly 'disappointed' by the poem's reception, had been about to embark on a reading of his 12-volume epic entitled 'My Favourite Bathtime Gurgles' when his own major intestine, in a desperate attempt to save the audience, leapt straight up through his neck and throttled his brain. The very worst poetry of all perished along with its creator, Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings of Greenbridge, Essex, England, in the destruction of the planet Earth."

My own personal low:

A Creed for the Third Amphibian

Ah! Dappled quag,
Spittling brumous globules effervescent in churlish fecklessivity,
Untangle my gibbous thoracic sac of fetid liquids;
Snarl my copious misfiring sensory clusters with fanciful delight.
Pimply is the biomass whence torpid delusion reigns!
I froth with epileptic fecundity. Your faithful joyfulness swells my paupered, sebaceous wolds.
Exult! Effluvient miasma, else bother me no more.

I remain, as always...

Ah ! The delicate sound of Vogon poetry... Is there anything smoother in the universe ?

As far as 2007 go, I've already seen 70 films or so, but being in Paris some of them were released in 2006 in the US, and most of the others will never be released in the US.

Knowing that, here are the best films I've seen so far this year :
Sunshine
The Lives of Others
Im Sang-soo's The Old Garden
Bug
After the wedding
Johnnie To's Election
Letters from Iwo Jima
The Painted Veil
Molière (french film)
Ensemble c'est tout (french film)

Re:Fave Movies Of 07 So Far

Why would I give you crap, giglifan? I defended your "right" to like Gigli, for scrying out loud. [Heh.] Besides, partner, you should see some of the films on MY list of all-time "favorites." Ask around, there was a whole contest about it here back a few weeks ago. (Six words: Doogie Howser in an SS uniform.) Besides, I don't plan my entire day around picking on you, or anyone else, no matter what ideas you've gotten into your head.

But, I digress. I honestly don't think you (or, anyone) can control which films are your (or their) favorites; like falling in love, it's not a logical / rational / explicable "decision." Let me show you what I mean:

On a recent night in January, I directed my TiVos to record the following films for me: The Program (1993), Armageddon, For Love of the Game, Anastasia (the Don Bluth cartoon), So I Married an Axe Murderer and The Prince of Egypt. Not one of these titles has an IMDb score of greater than 6.7. Here's what I ignored, that I could have watched that evening: The Color Purple (7.6), The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (7.2), Fatal Attraction (6.7), Boyz N the Hood and The Motorcycle Diaries (7.8 and 7.9, respectively).

Now, I happen to love The Life Aquatic, and consider The Color Purple, Boyz N the Hood and The Motorcyle Diaries to be among the top one percent of films released in the last twenty years. But I haven't watched Purple in better than a decade, have only seen Diaries twice and honestly get pretty emotional watching John Singleton's unnerving Boyz. So I went with Mike Myers, a cartoon Meg Ryan and Kevin Costner as a has-been Tigers pitcher, instead. Where the hell's the logic in that, I ask you. How do I defend these "preferences"? I don't. It is what it is.

Now, I'm actually pretty surprised at how some of the titles you mentioned above ended up placing on my personal "top 10" and "bottom 10" films of 2007 thus far. 300 was an excellent film, but my biggest problem with it was -- there wasn't ENOUGH of it. I could have watched another thirty minutes, easy, and I actually felt the film ended up being short on narrative. There were, what, three battle sequences? Troy ended up being (in my opinion) a far superior all-around movie. Even if it wasn't as truly kick-ass as Snyder's Spartans.

I thought The Last Mimzy COULD have been a really amazing film. It just... wasn't, for me. The special effects weren't special enough, I thought the acting was rote, and I would have preferred more suspense over the "true" nature of the technology / communication with the kiddos. It was a brave idea that needed braver execution.

Grind House (which just barely MISSED my "bottom ten") was another film I thought could have been just incredible, but at the end of the day, like so many films of late it seems, the trailer was the best part of the experience by far. (Trailers, actually.) Both 'filmlets' would have been better if they really HAD been only 50 or 55 minutes (in theaters).

I didn't rank / rate The Number 23 at all, but that's another film I had high hopes for, that just didn't deliver, for me. But, then again, I don't like Conspiracy Theory, either.

What's my point? Simply this: I don't have a "problem" with your "top 10" list of 2007. Far from it. Good on you, keep those opinions coming. Diversity of perspective makes this a far more interesting place, and (all evidence to the contrary) I'm neither always right, nor have I cornered the market on reason.

In a word (two, actually): Welcome aboard.

I remain, as always...

It's so hard to tell when people are being facetious...

I, for the most part, love comic book movies... even the crappy ones like Daredevil, Elektra, and yes, Ghost Rider. Why? They are what they are. I go in with certain expectations, and they meet them, nearly all the time. I rarely leave a comic-book adaptation feeling cheated.

There are, of course, exceptions to this rule, such as The Hulk or Superman Returns. I was completely underwhelmed by these films, and I would be hard pressed to really explain why.

I have heard rumors that a sequel to Ghost Rider has already been greenlit. So while Nico checks the Weather Channel to discern whether hell has frozen over or not, I'll probably be making plans to go see that as well. As a one-time comic-book fanatic, it's simply not in my nature to avoid films like these.

Living in the middle of nowhere, we don't get a whole lot of the fancier movies you big city folk might get. Have yet to see the likes of Lives of Others and Black Book. Looking forward to the DVD releases.

So out of the films I've seen.

1. 300
2. Grindhouse
3. Zodiac
4. Blades of Glory
5. Meet The Robinsons (but only in 3D)

MTR itself wasnt that great of a movie, but the RealD technology blew me away. it just seemed so natural and not forced like the old Red/Blue glasses. I can't wait for a real good movie to come along that uses it. Maybe Beowolf, or we'll have to wait until Avatar.

I have to agree with you there Shryke! I really like comic book movies, even the "bad" ones like daredevil and such. Although, I also have to admit that I don't rush out to see many of these movies in theatres either. There are exceptions though (X-Men and Spidey, I even have to admit paying money to see the total let down of Superman Returns in the theaters) but comic book movies do have a special place in my heart.

Re:Fave Movies Of 07 So Far

I posted this in a different thread a few days ago and stand by every word:

		AndTheWinnerIs wrote:

P.S - Leave Ghost Rider alone - I enjoyed it's thick layer of schlock; have it with some crackers to go along with all the cheese and it's perfectly palatable.

Not every movie needs to be a classic, epic, cinematographically (is that even a word...?) flawless masterpiece in order to be enjoyed or have a fan base following.

Ghost Rider was by no means great and in fact the first time I watched it (yes, I watched it more than once...) I thought it was shallow and lame with a bad plot and acting that swung wildly from wooden to a level of wacky that I thought was just plain silly.

Second time round was a somewhat different story. I left my critical, cynical, (usual) self at the concession stand and saw it for what it really was; a bit of fun.

I didn't think that the plot improved any during or after a second viewing but the depth, acting and lameness can all be forgiven and even applauded when you watch it from the right perspective.

Plus, you can't knock the special effects; the CGI flames alone are groundbreaking.

Double Plus, Eva Mendes.

'Nuff said.

For anyone who hated this movie, consider giving it another shot when it comes out on DVD; I'd be interested to hear if your opinion changes even a little bit.

Just really curious that's all, I'm not attacking you or anything, I just honestly want to know what you really liked about Ghost Rider.

Let me set the record straight, once and for all. There is nothing more to my Ghost Rider "love" (I'd prefer to call it a healthy like, if I'm being honest) than just being a fan. I am not on the admin, the board, the staff, or the janitor of any organization, blog or fanzine that supports this picture or anyone responsible for its creation.

I liked the effects. as AndTheWinnerIs said, they were top-notch. I liked Sam Elliott (Eva Mendes, I could take or leave). I also liked the updated version of "Ghost Riders in the Sky".

And for all of you Eragon-bashers out there, I actually kind of liked that one too. Because as much as I love comic book movies, I also love fantasy. Yes, Eragon was nothing more than a LOTR-meets-Star Wars retread, but there were still elements that I liked (esp. Sienna Guillory... her I would take). I'm not going to rush out and buy the DVD or anything, but I didn't hate it either. Not sure how I'll feel if they greenlight the next book in the series...

While not impossible, I think it unlikely for now (please God...).

Another dragon-lore novel called Temeraire by Naomi Novik has been optioned by one Peter Jackson and is hopefully going to go into production next year.

Now this is one to watch for... An alternative history set during the Napoleonic Wars, where dragons are used in aerial warfare as a kind of pre-avionics Air Force.

As PJ said himself "That's the kind of thing I go to the movies to see". (Imagine a cross between Master and Commander and something like Reign of Fire....

The book is gold - I recommend it.

In the hands of Jackson, this could be pure cinema magic!

I thought Hot Fuzz was far better than Shaun of the Dead. While SotD was an original take on a tired genre it still didn't impress me. I suppose I didn't find it funny, romantic or scary (which is not a good indicator, seeing as it was a romcomzom).
Watching Hot Fuzz, on the other hand, I laughed from the first few minutes right to the end, and thought the homage/wry-spoofs of American action movies were great.

Re:Fave Movies Of 07 So Far

1. 300 - Has one of the best battle scenes, the visuals were amazing, and it was just a very good overall movie. I guarantee anyone who has seen it would definitely say they had a great time.
2. Grindhouse - It was Rodriguez and Tarantino. Enough said. Planet Terror was pretty good, it had a good cast [Rose McGowan :D] The story was ok, but I really loved the cinematography. Rodrigues has still got it. Deathproof was a very entertaining film. It was really cool that they had the Vanishing Point car in it. I think they should do more movies like Grindhouse.
3. Spider Man 3 - The effects were very good. I did think the battle scene should have been a little bit longer though, show him fighting Venom just a bit more. Thomas Hayden Church as Sandman I agreed with. Topher Grace did ok, but i thought they could have made a better choice

One other random thought on an upcoming movie
28 Weeks Later - 28 Days Later was just horrible. I have no reason to think the sequel would be any better. I have no clue why anyone would say it's one of the scariest movies ever.

Anybody seen alpha dog. Im no big fan of Justin Timberlake but that movie had one f'd up ending. I can't believe that shit actually happened. I gotta say if the manager at movie gallery didn't clue me into it, I would've never saw that coming. I gotta say 300 and disturbia are probably at the top of my list right now. I also liked vacancy except for the ending. Fracture was pretty good. I also thought the number 23 and reign over me were really good. I love both actors as comedians but they have been doing pretty good at the dramatic roles. Reign over me was crazy. Is it bad if you laugh though. Some parts were funny, but thats just me. Also did anyone see pathfinder. I thought that looked really good.

"Alpha Dog" had a great plot, but a bad story. Ben Foster was great though. Justin Timberlake had the best performance though, he really was the only one that had an arc somewhat.

For me, the movie was pointless. I think once you realized how little scenes the boss, Emile Hirsch, had with the 15-year old. You should have picked up on it. The 15-year old was nothing to Hirsch because he hadn't spent any time with him to get to know him.

I wouldn't recommend this.

Alpha Dog was a good surprise yeah. I wasn't expecting much cause it's been long delayed, and I'm not a big fan of Cassavetes Junior, but the movie is good. Take away the documentary style, and the awful, awful monologue by Sharon Stone at the end, and you've got an interesting look at the skid of events leading to tragedy in the golden youth of California.

Timberlake is shockingly good in it as you mentionned. I was really surprised because he was so bad and transparent in the bad Edison that I wasn't expecting any good performance from him.
Ben Foster is a fkng genius, as always. That actor is so crazy, so powerful, so into character. He's the kind of actor that could be great even in the biggest artistic flop.

cRAzY,
Frankly, I don't care one bit about what you say. Your use of the word "shit" just made me feel bad for the lack of vocabulary taught in public schools (as where I'm sure you're a product of).
What are we, in fifth grade? I have to curse to "look like a man"? You're joking right? What are ya going to do next? Double-dog dare me? I really hope your thoughts on what a "man" is.
So, your sister is a man? Really, she acts more manly than me? Should I be sorry for myself, you, or your "sister"? If she's wearing Birkenstocks and listening to the Indigo Girls and eating a lot of veggies, she's got something she wants to share with the family. Uh-oh.
I do take notice of most of the forums, but not all. And yours is usually the name the pops up each time. I've played this game for about a year now and would like to keep it as "clean" as possible. Sorry if you thought that I was being too much, but I just know what you have said before in some posts.
Keep posting and I'll keep cool.
Seriously though, sit your sister down and reassure her she's a woman.

The last guy who tried to ask her out sang to her on the bus and she threatened to shove her foot up his "dirty word for Butt" And I didn't mean to comment on your sexuality and I wasn't trying to prove I am a man by cursing. I just think its a little childish to be offended by such words as that one. You must have been very sheltered because I hear it all the time. anyways I've tried to keep cool on the cursing and still will but some things I believe should be said without any restrictions. when describing the events in that movie, considering what happened, a curse word here an there is desireable for effect.
I understand the powers of cursing, cRaZy. I also understand that it has the opposite effect than what you think. Especially in the professional world, the minute you start letting the curse words fly, you're "downgraded". I don't know in what facet you work in, but you'll see what I'm talking about. But, that's not saying that all jobs are like that, because they're not. You say that cursing has the effect where "people tend to listen more". No, that's not true. You ever wonder why you have to curse to try and get people's attention, maybe because you're cursing they ignore you or what you're saying. I have never been offended by your words, I just expect a little more out of people. Choose to say something intelligent, that's when people truly listen. Now, back to the movies...

So I know exactly when to be professional because I do it six days out of the week for eight to ten hours at a time. And if were talking about being professional in a movie chat room then you sir are sadly mistaken. Nobody told me to don the suit upon signing up. And if you hadn't noticed when you click the link to get into the chat room it says Message boards talk trash and do other junk. (not specific but close enough.) If they meant for these boards to be professional then I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have put that their. They probably would've put Mogul Forums: A quiet place to discuss movies in a pleasant non argumentative manner. Remember be Professional! I don't remeber seeing that though so I don't know why your freakin out on us when were just trying to be ourselves and talk about movies. When people are at work then they can be professional all they want.
Smokin' Aces was loud, fast, dumb, thin on plot, maschistic, violent, high on action, short on logic, and entirely disposable. And I loved every minute of it. It isn't a great film- not by any means. But I watched it a second time on DVD and essense the joke of the film. He is making a 70's b movie/revenge/noir movie filled with 70's stock characters. In essense it is a Tarentino film. A whole bunch of posturing with just enough substance to hold a story together.

I thought is was the perfect counterpoint to the prototypical chick flick. I don't know what you would call that, but that is what Smokin' Aces is.

I agree with transformers. 300 was a frickin awesome movie and gerard butler could make a grown man wet his pants with that awesome voice. I wish my theater would've got grindhouse so I could say thats one of my favs too. Oh well.
Smokin Aces wasn't a bad movie. It Just didn't live up to the expectations that the preview put out there. Dam previews. When it did have action though it was pretty bad A. The sniper scene was frickin awesome. So was the elavator scene. I think they could've made it way better but I wouldn't say it was a bad movie. I think I'll add Pirates to my list now because that was also a pretty bad A movie. Lot of piratetry and treachery which is a good combination. Probably not my fav of the year but definately up there. That last fight scene gave it that extra oomf to make it worthwhile for a three hour movie.

Is Zodiac really that good i didn't see it during its theatrical run here in America back in March. I will have to check it out on DVD. But i think america already made 2 remarkable films this year[300 and Grind House] but maybe that's just me but i loved both those films.

The only other remarkable american film I've seen so far in 2007 is William Friedkin's BUG. Well I've seen it last year, but it counts as 2007. The other 2 great american films I've seen are actually from 2006, LETTERS FROMS IWO JIMA and THE PAINTED VEIL.

I haven't seen Grindhouse yet. In fact I won't see it, cause in France, like in many countries, Death Proof and Planet Terror are released separetly, each in a longer cut. Death Proof is coming out next week after premireing in Cannes, and Planet Terror won't be out until september I think.
as for 300, I liked it, it was really fun, but it's all the film is, fun, it's not a great film that will end up in my Top 10 at the end of the year...

HANDS DOWN..."Ratatouille". Great story, incredibly well-told (mostly from the perspective of a rat) and is visually-stunning. If it doesn't win Best Animated Feature this Oscar season, then Pixar will be releasing something else we don't know about. Also, the short, "Lifted", before it, by Oscar-winning sound designer, Gary Rydstrom was also great.

I was planning on going to see it opening weekend anyway, along wtih Die Hard 4, but this cements which one I'm going to go see first.

As you'll see in my upcoming column, it's such a shame that it had to come out 6/29, where it'll get blitzed in its 2nd and 3rd weeks.

But for all of those out there who thinks Pixar may be slipping, I have yet to read a negative review of this fim (and I've read four in all).

Re:Fave Movies Of 07 So Far

Well, I just saw Fantastic Four this weekend, and at the risk of losing all credibility, it is my favorite movie so far this year. I enjoyed it from start to finish, for exactly the same reasons that I loved the first one... good action, funny, somewhat campy, without weighing itself down with heavy emotion (Spider-Man), too many characters (X-Men) or lame villains (Ghost Rider). Yes, it was a little soap opera-y, but it never got out of hand, so I can easily forgive that.

So, for the third or fourth time since this thread started, I have a new Top 5:

1. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
2. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
3. 300
4. Music and Lyrics
5. Mr. Brooks

And with Evan Almighty, Ratatouille, Transformers and Harry Potter coming up in the next month, who knows how many more times it may change!

Fave Movies Of 07 So Far

My favorite of all the Pixar gang is "Monsters, Inc.", but I loved "The Incredibles", "Toy Stories" and liked "Finding Nemo".

Honestly, it's how precise all the characters and actions are. To give an example. The rat runs into a problem in that he loves to cook and create, yet he's doing so in a kitchen created to use for (much-larger) humans. (Dir.) gets imaginative by having the rat use acrobatics to put the ingredients into the pot. There's one moment where the rat can't reach the pot, so he turns a spoon around with his feet, runs up it and he's atop the pot.

One reason I'm tough on a lot of movies is because a film, especially one that costs hundreds of millions of dollars and months to produce needs to have one main ingredient: heart. If it has that, then it has good, well-rounded characters, a sensibly and provoking storyline and hopefully everything will fall into place after that (visuals, audio, music, etc.). "Ratatouille" in my opinion has all that. This is why I am not looking forward to "Transformers" and haven't seen "Shrek 3" or even "Pirates of the Caribbean 3".

Anyway, there's my endorsement. And just to let you know, my previous year's best was probably "Away From Her" and then "28 Weeks Later".

Haha! You've got to remember, Chief..., it's much harder for us Americans to see the culture-filled film nuggets that run amuck over there in France. I agree, that is a frightful list, but to each his own. It takes some of us the year after to see all of the year's best releases due to limited runs in metro cities and the invention of DVD/online rental houses.

Shryke42, your homework is to see something playing in less than 500 theaters nationwide. And no, second-run houses do not count.

Re:Fave Movies Of 07 So Far

Wow, I didn't expect my list to engender so much discussion...

Let me take your inquiries/comments/suggestions in chronological order:

friskytiger - I do see limited release movies on rare occasion, perhaps one or two per year. The problem is that I work two jobs apart from my column-writing, the nearest limited-release theater is 20 miles away, and it is summertime in Arizona, where the temperatures soar to over 110 degrees. Oh, and I'm married, and my wife does like me to spend some time with her on occasion.

Plus, I am one lazy-ass bastard and I would much rather wait the extra few months and rent them. (For example, I am extremely looking forward to being able to rent "The Host"; that looks wicked cool.)

tuan - you are correct. I always rank my movies in which I enjoyed them/would see them again/might possibly buy the DVD. It's the scale I've always used. Movies like The Departed and Blood Diamond, though great movies, did not rank all that high for me last year, because the subject matter was pretty intense. That doesn't take away from the quality of the movies themselves, it's just how I roll.

Chienfantome - if my apparent lack of taste frightens you (or at least is fall-out-of-your-chair inducing), I can assure you, I know many MANY people who make me look incredibly cultured by comparison. Like, top hat and walking stick cultured. (Wink.)

transformers - Thanks for backing me up, dude. You've got me pegged, confirming what I said in my first column: I am just Average Joe Moviegoer. The studios lure us like mules with carrots - explosions, car chases, flashing swords and bouncing bosoms, and I chase that carrot all the way to the cineplex. (Sheepish grin.) That is, if I understand the FM higher-ups, why I was offered my own column - I represent the larger portion of American movie buffs.

As to my liking Music and Lyrics, well, blame my upbringing, your honor. I grew up on cheesy 80's music, British humor and Drew Barrymore. I never stood a chance. I figured I was going to like this movie before I even watched it, but I was surprised that I ended up liking it even more than that. Hugh Grant's self-deprecating charm and Drew Barrymore's ineffable sweetness, together on one screen? I was like putty.

Fantastic four is definately my fav of 07. Considering how much I liked the first one. Now add laurence fishburne and I'm hooked. I can't wait to go see it again. The only problem I had was when johnny started losing his confidence. I like smart ass johnny. Loved the movie and understand why they did it. Hope they make a third now. That and the end. they should have showed more of galactus than a shadow. They also probably could have made it closer to the comic book storyline than they did. Add on about 15 to 20 min. and it could've been even better.

Personally, if I had to choose one american movie available to all that stood up this year, it would be Zodiac. And if I had to choose a little pearl, I'd pick The Host, even though I've seen it over a year ago.
Re:Fave Movies Of 07 So Far

Shryke, while I woulldn't say FF2 and Music and Lyrics were 'top ten' material, I did enjoy them a lot.

Music and Lyrics was a sappy, light, fun movie released at just the right time and went down just right. And if you grew up watching VH1 develop into what it is now, I think that it is even a little funnier to you. Best/ worst case, watch the first 10-15 minutes and if you aren't laughing, turn it off. It doesn't get any better or worse than the opening credits.

Fantastic Four impressed me by its restraint. In this day where movies seemed to be judged solely on special effects, it was nice to watch a movie filled with superhero powers haveing to struggle with base human complications and still be heroic. In some ways it was what Spidey was intended to be before it became overwrought with plot, melodrama, 'accurate' special effects and a huge budget. In essense it is comfort food. Or in this case, comfort film.

The other films I saw this year that I like were Stomp the Yard and The Prestige.

I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard maybe Blockbuster is trying to do us a public service by keeping it off the shelves until it reaches a status of relative obscurity. lol

Well thank you for articulating your point so well, I , however, will have to digress...
Firstly, what the hell was up with the "dancing"? Especially in the begining, it was like a convulsion set to music.
Second, what was with the script? eg: He goes from holding his dead brother (cousin?) in the street to riding in a car with no explanation on his way to the Truth. And who kills somebody else over a dance contest, I thought they were using expressive dance to confront their anger, not the other way around.
I will however give you the Meagan Good defense, no retort for that one.

Wow i surprised you disliked 28 Weeks Later and Blades Of Glory those are two of my favorites of the year so far. I haven't seen Aqua Teen Hunger Force yet but i wanted to see it badly just didn't get around it. I am glad someone liked Grindhouse as i much as I did. That currently ranks number 3 on my best of the year list.

Actually Tuan 69, I did pay full price to see Stomp the Yard and You Got Served. Partially by my choice and partially out of love for my wife. If she were in the picture would I have seen them? Probably not, but that doesn't mean it wasn't worth it (I'm talking about the movie). I did enjoy them, I just wouldn't go to a movie like that by myself.

But that being said, I went to Spidey 3 because my friends did, and I will be seeing Harry Potter and Transformers more for the cinematic experience (preferably the local drive-in, can't beat the experience) and being around friends.

If I had my perfect world choice, I would probably be watching semi obscure, cult and essential/influential movies at revival theatres. Nothing against the new stuff, but age tends to eliminate the mundane and pathetic films.

You put Shrek the Third and Evan Almighty below Epic Freakin' Movie on your list??

I can't even begin to tell you what's wrong with that.

Epic Movie was a juvenile, incoherent, inexcusable mishmash of a film, completely devoid of any humor or entertainment value. An utter waste of time. I snickered exactly once the entire time, when Kumar said "I feel like I've been here before" (talking about White Castle), but the rest of the time, I just put my face in my hands. I'm just glad I waited to rent it rather than wasting good money to see it in theaters. Putting Shrek and Evan in the same league as this is an insult. Maybe they weren't the best, but that's freakin' insulting.

I know everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but oy.

Epic Movie was not great, but it was a lot more dumbly entertaining than I expected it to be. Better than either of the last two spoof movies, Date Movie or Scary Movie 4. I never said it was great, that's why it's on my worst list.

And about 28 Weeks Later, I thought the first was great and this one was just OK; it took itself way too seriously, was not scary, and had a lot of laughable moments; for God's sake, it's a mainstream sequel to a zombie movie, is it really supposed to be artsy?

I thought that while the story wasn't 'original' it was solid and it was nice to finally see an urban/black film attempt to tell a story where he wasn't being stuck by 'the man' but by his own actions. I thought the movie easy to watch and the dancing while not as effective as Served was good.

Also Meagan Good is... um good... to look at. That isn't relevent to the rest of the defense, just thought I'd share.

Thank you for seeing the greatness of Stomp the Yard. It is a rousing feel good tale about surviving diversity in the south. It highlights on the importance to stop gang violence.
