Which actor really, really needs to find a new agent?

Now that Mandy Moore has another flop under her belt with License to Wed I started wondering who picks this poor girls movies...and she not the only one. Some of these film choices jst dont make any sense.

Mandy Moore- License to Wed, Because I Said So, American Dreamz

Amanda Peet- The Ex, A Lot Like Love, Whipped, The Whole Ten Yards...is it possible to find an actual role where she isnt the girlfriend, or the sister, or the receptionist, or any other irrelevant charater in a movie.

Halle Berry- Catwoman, Perfect Stranger (im sorry but i liked Gothika, not sure why)

Rosario Dawson- Pluto Nash, Pluto Nash, oh and Pluto Nash. And i still have not forgot alexander. Even though she has made some good moves with Sin City among others, she has yet to break out.

Thandie Newton- She decided to follow up her great performance in Crash with Norbit and Run, Fat Boy, Run...ms.newton should really lay off the meth

Jim Carrey- The Number 23, Fun with Dick and Jane, but even he had the smarts to stay away from Evan

Cuba Gooding Jr- This former oscar winner is set to star in Daddy Day Camp. Yes that is the sequal to Daddy Day Care.

Uma Thurman- If the movie doesnt involve Quentin Tarrontino Uma Thurman seems completly lost. The Avengers, Batman and Robin, My Super Ex Girlfriend, The Producers, among others really make me depressed. She was so wonderful in Kill Bill

Eddie Murphy- Though his films are finacial successes cant he find a halfway decent comedy? Perhaps one without a fat suit...

Robin Williams- Seems to have lost his touch with every single one of his movies being almost dead on arrival this decade. And no animated films dont count...

Tea Leoni- She is a wonderful actress who should be working 24/7, but instead she jst does the occasional mediocre indie movie and the occasional mediocre pop corn flick with few exceptions. But i read a recent interview and im not so sure it isnt jst her wanting to be with her family...

and though i felt compelled enough to start this poll i cant really think of anymore so i guess ill add some later

Defintley Cuba Gooding Jr. I mean look at his choices. Boat Trip, Snow Dogs,Norbit,Daddy Day Camp. I mean he hasnt been in a good movie in 6 years. But Maybe Amercian Gangster can turn that around :D But anways Rosario Dawson and Jim Carrey dont deserve to be on this list. Rosario Dawson has been in Clerks 2,Sin City, Grindhouse yeah horrible choices ha ha. Yeah Pluto Nash was really bad but she moved on from that. And Carrey only had Number 23 so what he made a mistake carrey will be back in true carrey fashion soon.

Rosario Dawson is on this list because even though movies like grindhouse and clerks 2 earned her some cred with the fan boy crowd, they have done nothing to make her a household name. I put her here because i think that she should definatley she should be much more famous then she is, and did anyone forget who Alexander?

And I forgot Cuba because until u mentioned it i forgot who he was....

Re:Which actor really, really needs to find a new agent?

I've already weighed in on Cuba Jr, so let me give you my take on the rest of the "list":

Halle Berry would definitely be #2 on my list, after Cuba, but at least she's had the good fortune to be a part of one of the most successful comic book franchises so far. She might turn it around in the upcoming "Things We Lost in the Fire", which is already getting pretty good buzz.

Mandy Moore doesn't need a better agent so much as she needs to learn how to act better.

Amanda Peet is talented enough - she does some bad movies, yes, but at least she doesn't make them worse.

Rosario Dawson can act, but I'm more worried about her *glug*glug*vroom*vroom*, if you know what I mean.

Jim Carrey, I'm really not worried about. He can always return to what made him popular, like he will when he goes back to Seuss next year in Horton Hears a Who. Dick & Jane wasn't that bad, and if it was, blame Tea Leoni.

Thandie I haven't seen in enough films to really comment. Chronicles of Riddick and MI:2 are about it.

Uma Thurman? WTF?! Yeah, okay, Super Ex-Girlfriend and Producers both bombed, but Be Cool did okay, and Kill Bill was a rousing success. She'll be remembered for her Quentin successes than for her failures, I reckon.

Re:Which actor really, really needs to find a new agent?

It's definitely Halle Berry. Cuba is the only other Oscar-winner on the list, but let's face it -- that was a once in a lifetime performance from him (maybe two -- Boyz N The Hood). AND it was actually considered an upset at the time. Halle was always somewhat respected (B.A.P.S. aside) and at least was one of the favorites when she won.

Honorable mention for Amanda Peet. Was she REALLY one of Hollywood's next "It" girls around 5 years ago??? Talk about talking the wrong exit off the highway after "The Whole Nine Yards" -- not even Smilin' Jack could save her...

He needs somebody who can secure him good roles more than every once in a while. Of course, for all I know, he already has a new agent, in which case, keep on keepin on Cuba you seem to be in a position to make a comeback, we hope.

well not really...have any of the friends cast been in a halfway decent movie? Not that i can think of.
Re:Which actor really, really needs to find a new agent?

I don't think we can call License to Wed, a true flop...not sure what the budget was for the movie, but I can't imagine it was some outrageous figure. As of now, it's made close to $40 million, and let's face it, considering it's widest release was under 2200 screens, into the teeth of this summer movie season, than I have to say that's a pretty good job on the movie's part. Was it a great movie? Nope...but it wasn't a flop either. It'll finish somewhere around $60 million for the summer, and I'd be willing to bet that it'll do a decent overseas run, and have a strong rental/sales run too...the movie will make a tidy profit for its investors.

As for Rosario Dawson being on this list...all I can say is that it may be true, that she hasn't quite broken out yet, I believe she's been steadily building momentum. Her next feature due out in the fall, Killshot should help her...I thought she was terrific in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints...and when they turn her comic book, O.C.T. into a movie, it will probably end up being the big breakout movie of her career...

IMO, Cuba is definitely the guy in need of the biggest "Save" in terms of career...behind him you could throw in the likes of Thomas Jane, Vin Diesel, and Alicia Silverstone...Jane is appearing with Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke, Diane Lane, and Joseph Gordon Levitt in Killshot, so maybe he can do something quickly to flip his career. Vin has a lot riding on Babylon A.D., and if it flops, his Hannibal project may be in jeopardy, and his career may be headed for Straight to DVD. Alicia Silverstone, well let's face it, her and Chris O'Donnell never did truly recover from Batman & Robin, did they?

Tis true...Joel almost single handedly destroyed the careers of Chris and Alicia in Batman & Robin and quite possibly Jim Carrey in The Number 23. That's pretty impressive in and of itself, when you really think about it...

Halle Berry. Seriously. Pancakes. Come on.
If your looking for "hot" actresses that have no limits. Watch Anjelina Jolie, Kate beckinsale, or even Hollowman. Rhona Mitra. Much better than halle berry.
Besides. Billy bob thorton. You people disgust me. Go get some cheap porn if your that desperate.

Anyways. Amanda peet I would have to say needs the new agent. Shes the only one with talent that should be in more movies than she is.
Robin Williams is doing just fine. I don't guess any of you actually saw license to wed. I thought it was a really good comedy in true Williams style. And if you really think he's losing his touch. Watch a preview for august rush. Other than the soul patch it looks really good. And coming from someone who generally doesn't like those kinds of movies. I would think that says alot.

As for Cuba. He doesn't need a new agent. He needs a new frickin talent coach. if those exist. which would be really sad. anyways. If anything he should steer away from the comedies and do more dramas cause thats the only thing he's half decent at. Other than Radio. How hard is it to play a tard. No offense to the mentally handicapped. I love those guys. But seriously. Was it really that spectacular of a performance.

One more thing. After catwoman. Halle Berry should've crawled in a whole and died. Her acting is way overated too.

One One more thing. Watch clerks two. Rosario was amazing in that movie as was everyone else. If your a Kevin Smith fan and you haven't seen this movie yet. You should be buried alive. Along with Cuba and Halle.

i'd say cuba, but i'll explain why not later....

amanda peet is talented and definitely should get in more challenging roles than till now.
mandy moore can act, but her last few roles have been badly chosen, but i dont think she needs a new agent just yet.
robin williams is fine.
dawson's fine too, she has enough hits to cover the misses; but that wont last too long at this rate.
jim carrey definitely does NOT need a new agent.
thandie newton, i reserve judgement until i see a few more movies she's in.
halle berry could need a new agent, her fall from grace has been way too obvious.
uma thurman's fine - see rosario dawson above.
tea leoni - see thandie newton above.
and finally, eddie murphy - he's still just the no-talent jackass that goes for the highest-paying jobs instead of the most respectable ones....

so overall, i'd pick either halle berry or amanda peet.

and as for my man cuba, the reason he doesn't need a new agent is because he needs (even more urgently) a new PROFESSION!!!!

The thing with Depp though is this- the more of an A-list he get to be, the less bold and daring his movie choises can be. People may or may not remember this, but Bruckhiemer and co. paired up with Disney to make it, It turned out to recieve a lot of good fortune behind it.

Consider this-
1. The movie had a large budget, even for a blockbuster.
2. The movie was in a genre that was not only dead, but a long reputation of harming careers.
3. Your romantic leads were nobodies with little professional experience.
4. Bloom got big only during the filming process.
5. Depp, a quality actor, had never really paid off big box office dividends as a lead and the movie could bomb as easily as become a blockbuster.
6. The movie was based of an amusement park ride that exist more
because of reputation than current interest.

All the points add up to this. Johnny depps high water mark for his career will probably be him playing Jack Sparrow. I don't see any other identity for him to fit into, and I think his work will dimish for that point in his career on.

Two actresses not on that list that may want to think their steps out very carefully are Lindsay Lohan and Hillary Duff. They are in the same boat a Mandy Moore. In fact, all three have the near impossible question to ask their careers. The question is 'how do I grow my character up with me to expand my audience base without complete alienating the base that brought me there?'

When cute little starlets turn 18, I fear for their careers. Suddenly they are left with the awefull question of 'do I dirty myself up to be sexy and alienate my tweener base, or do I stay clean and watch my base and roles dwindle away?'

The Olsens went cute and have become persona non grata in Hollywood. Anne Hathaway has done better with The Devil wears Prada, and a 'serious' film that her younger fan base won't or didn't want to see with Brokeback Mountain. Lohan Keeps trying to be cute on screen while being a ,um, car wreck in real life. I think her career is toast unless something good happens fast towards her. As for Moore, she has this wierd chick flick audience I would prefer avoid. I really have little opinion about her or her career. She can manage to be more obnoxious than to Olsen twins.

i really think she needs another role or two like 'a walk to remember' to get back up and running....otherwise she's in danger of joining the kate hudson kind of chick who's known best for her role in almost famous, but has little other than lead actress roles in mediocre comedies like 'how to lose a guy' and 'you me and dupree'....both these women have tremendous potential and probably should look into the idea of a new agent....

cRAzY, I put one disclaimer on this post before I start- I personally find the following stuff I am defending obnoxious and do everything in my power to avoid it.

Rip on Hillary, Lindsay, the girl who plays Hannah Montana, and others of that that type as much as you like, but they represent a legitiment part of the entertainment industry. Hannah Montana and Lizzie MaGuire (which I find painfully tolerable) were/ are very solid cable hits that serve their stations well. They may not be extremely 'innovative', but they better versions of the type of show that they are.

As for the actresses involved, I think initial agents were very good. They got the chance to shine.

For those who care, I got to experience High School Musical 2. High School Musical was a tween/ chic musical that was done well enough with enough masculine (or at least not feminine) moments to make the experience exceptable to sit through with my wife. The second was a complete, total chick flick with no apologies. My wife enjoyed, but not as much as the first. The story was different and a better than expected, and music and dance nowhere near as good as the first. Anyone with testasterone avoid a muchas possible. It will be a long movie for you.

cRAzY, you eliminate the click flick fan base and the world will have a hard time continuing, considering that most of the child bearing population has liked or currently is liking that kind of movie. Because that is what girls/ women like. They like to emote and talk about their feelings.

As long as there are girls/ women on this earth, there will be super sappy movies for them to see and their significant others (boy friend/ husband/ best guy friend) asking themselves, "Why am I here? And when will something blow up?"

But I guess they have to make movies for all audiences. Annoying teenage girls, Gays, Retarted Anarchists who hate america but don't wanna live anywhere else. Its just something we have to put up with. As long as I don't have to see anything more than a preview I'll stay happy.
cRAzy, the never entirely grow out of chick flicks. The chick flicks just go from obnoxious (insert teenage giggles and squeals) to motherly (insert your best soccer mom conversation involving 'the children', 'my psychiatrist', and 'why, I never...'. I have been married for seven years and will personally attests that I would much rather watch some dopey teen chick flick over some 'mature' melodramatic adult chick flick. At least the teen one attempts to have fun.

I make an effort to avoid 'Grown up' movies. They tend to bore me.

Some movies one shouldn't or can't judge unbiased. If you ever need proof, look at your newspaper and you will find the ocassional review that starts out "I normally hate movies movies..." or something to that degree and then the critic gives it a bad review.

Gee, didn't see that one coming.

I think that is why I haven't see Brokeback Mountian yet. It contains two themes that iratate in ways near beyond words. Most movies with homosexual themes annoy me and adultery themes involving the lead charactersusually make dislike the character pretty fast too.

So I always figured I would get out the way and let those who don't mind those themes in their movies watchand enjoy it.

What bothered me most about Brokeback was its marketing campaign. The way the marketers underplayed the main element of the story in many of the ads to sell movie to the masses was tremendously deceptive. I know many women, some far more bright than the most of the masses, who went in not realizing just how deep the cowboys' friendship was going to go. They left digusted and felt ripped off.

That's also why I haven't seen it, despite liking the screen presense of Ledger and Hathaway.

Which actor really, really needs to find a new agent?

I spent most of AquaMarine and Brokeback on the phone in the hall in the back of the theater on the phone with my girlfriend so I never really got into either. Although I will say I actually watched the first twenty mintues of aquamarine and would've watched the rest but I was still in high school then and phone was more important. Didn't talk through every movie I previewed though. Just those two, Doogal, and akeelah and the bee. Everything else I watched. Including Flicka.
Anyways, I didn't want to watch brokeback because the only real point of the movie was two gay cowboys livin it up on a cattle drive. There was only ever one intention for that movie and that was to symbolize that there are more and more gays everyday and they are speaking out. I'm not a fan of homo movies because I'm not a huge fan of homos. Exact opposite actually. I'm not an ahole to them.(most of them.) I actually work with one and he's pretty cool. mainly because he's in the closet and keeps it a secret. Which is cool. I understand the whole I don't want to hide who I am thing. Thats great. Be yourself. Just don't flaunt it around in front of people and expect them to be tolerant. I may not be a strong religious person but there is one verse in the bible I know by heart. Leviticus 18:22. Everyone sins. But people also repent. Gays that go to church every sunday and say that are god fearing people with religious stuff all over them are just being retarted. Being gay isn't something you can repent. You die gay and its not like anythings gonna change after your dead.
Anyways. My point is I don't like people who shove their culture down my throat. I don't do it to others. dont do it to me. I have my beliefs and values just like everyone else. Keep them to yourself. The only reason most people went to see that movie was to support the cause. Tolerance of gays. The same dam reason everyone went to see the Passion. You should go watch a movie for what it is and not what it stands for. I'm not saying people don't actually enjoy the movies. Good for them. Tuan. Keep watching them if thats your cup of tea. I'm just tired of people going oh you didn't like the passion. You must be a jew or something. What? You don't like brokeback. You must really hate gays. I didn't like brokeback because it wasabout two gay cowboys. I didn't like it because I'm not a big fan of dramatic movies and definately don't want to watch a movie about two weirdos herding cows or sheep or whatever up in some hills and then get frisky in a tent. What was so great about that. I guess I'd have to watch all of it to understand it but I'd rather waste my time watching some other crappy oscar winning drama.
"Stepping off soap box."
P.S. Retarted teen movies are much better than crappy chick flik movies. Although both have some movies that are good. How to Lose a guy in ten days and Mean girls are good examples.

I agree that people shouldn't enjoy Brokeback Mountain just to support the gay cause. But when I talk to a lot of fans about the film, their appreciation wasn't an attempt to reveal their liberal mindset, I think most people found it to be a genuinely moving film. It juist happened to be different because it was between two men. Taboo is rooted in tragic drama, and homosexuality is one of the last taboos in the 1st world.

No to turn this into a moral/religious debate, but I feel some objectivity needs to be interjected here.
I do believe in God, specifically the God of the bible, and that the bible itself is his word written via man. However I wouldn't consider myself "religious" because the majority who do are hypocrites, or overly legalistic about their religion and i generally can't agree with them.

Take a step back from your personal belief - this is America, its all about the right to choose, which is also a big part of the Christian religion, the God given right to choose (and the ability to discern right from wrong). To me I believe Heterosexual relationships to be the only thing that is right, but that is my personal belief and I have no reason to ask others to agree with me, the same with Homosexuals - they are just as entitled to personal beliefs as I am.
Why is it offensive that there is a movie that features a Homosexual romance (and not even in a flagrant way), when if the same movie featured a Heterosexual romance would be acceptable.

You might as well be saying Homosexuals should rally against Cold Mountain for being offensively Heterosexual... Brokeback mountain was about equivalent.

As for the for The Notebook, I absolutely loved it. I don't normally fall for sweepingly romantic dramas, but this one grabbed me and never let me go. It is one of the chick flicks I would voluntarily watch.

Tuan, your description of Brokeback being a story about forbidden love is a great summary. It ultimately the biggest reason why I didn't have the desire to see it. I don't if the hottest actress in film is staring in a 'forbidden love' story, I have better things to see. I know many fall for that story a lot, I just happen to not be in that camp.
I will never worry about Samuel L. Jackson. The man's body of work contains more than enough impressive action and acting performances to more than outweigh his few questionable choices. Oh, sure "Snakes on a Plane" was drivel, but he never pretended otherwise. Apart from Bruce Willis, I can't think of a single actor who inhabits more films in my video library. (And their three movies together, "Pulp Fiction", "Die Hard With a Vengeance" and "Unbreakable" are among my all-time favorites.)

His next movie is going to be a futuristic time-travel movie next February called Jumper, and it sounds cool even though (gulp) Hayden Christensen is in it.

If I ever start to doubt Samuel L.'s coolness, I just harken back to his SNL monologue from 1998, and it all goes away:

And jameydunne, I am most impressed with your depth and train of thought. If you want into my next "Regulars" Ultimate league (Oct-Dec), let me know via e-mail. I don't think many others will object.

That analogy is right. He does lose half his games. Here are some of Jackson's recent "masterpieces": 1408, Resurrecting the Champ, Black Snake Moan, Freedomland, The Man, XXX; State of the Union, S.W.A.T., XXX, I can keep going. I mean I can give the guy his due for his past work. but that does not excuse his recent history. The question was which actor needs to find anew agent, not which actor has the best past. It's been awhile since Jackson stole the show like in Negotiator. And I'd rather see Sam in Iron man then in some sci fi flick which have been altogether hit or miss since Dune.

I thought Dick and Jane was a flat and very uninteresting comedy. I thought the start of the end credits was the best part of the movie- not because it was the end of the movie, but because of the thank yous part. I thought the rest of the movie was entirely forgetable and reminded of a Steve Martin remake movie- a bland populist film attempting to resurrect a dated and musty movie that never entirely translates right in its new incarnation.

I know Tea Leone was recently got added to the list ofactors, I always though her biggest problem wasn't her agent, but her. I always found her to be a very average actress that gets lost in mediocre projects. Even in poor movies, she's never really had 'that' performance- you know the one where everyone stops and says "wow!".

Tuan, I goofed when I was typing. I noticed it the moment I read your post.

No, Schumaker DID NOT direct Bad Boys. That was Michael Bay's maiden voyage into filmland. (for what it is worth, the jokes set around Will Smith and Bad Boys in Kevin Smith's Jersey Girl make me laugh a lot).

The movie I was trying to write down was the fantastically miscasted, fantastically underwhelming directed, and downright cookied cutter film Bad Company. NO chemistry between Hopkins and Rock, Rock's comedy too sanitized to be funny, and the umpteenth variation of 48 Hrs (finally saw in the last month- a great B-movie western set in a cops and robbers story.)

It tends to be really the measure of an actor when a movie primarily focuses on them, with little environment - which I've mentioned before in regard to 1408 - same is true with Phone Booth.
