Re:Enough to tick one off for sure...

The Dark Knight deserves everything it gets. It is a spectacular film. It makes way more than Hellboy because I have been raised on Batman since I was 3 years old. I had never heard of Hellboy before the movie came out. That's the major reason. Batman is arguably the biggest superhero we have, and Heath's death just boosts that. Oh and did I mention that it is AN AMAZING MOVIE?

Now the reason for Hancock's success is not because it is spectacular. Its a fun summer movie. The reason it kicks box office ass is because of Will Smith. He is the surest thing in Hollywood. He has universal appeal. So many people will see a movie just because he is in it. WALL-E is a kids/family movie. That's why it won't outgross big Willie. Males age 14 and up don't really want to see it for the most part, unless they are taking their kids or their girlfriends. People on here are obviously the film-loving exception to the rule.

Hellboy was doomed for this weekend from the start. Just think of how much of its demographic went to see The Dark Knight this weekend or even held off during the week in anticipation of TDK. That said, it'll have a bounce back weekend next time IMO simply because those that haven't seen it and have now gotten TDK out of the way will go check it out. Getting crushed this weekend definitely kept it from sniffing $100M but I think it can still make $80M before it's all said and done.

Just as good or better? Did you see both films? Don't get me wrong Hellboy 2 was a good movie, I liked it a lot, but The Dark Knight was a masterpiece pure and simple, one of the greatest movies ever made definitely. And the reason why it isn't getting any respect is because that film company was dumb enough to slate it the weekend before TDK, any movie that was in HB2's position last week would be suffering the same fate, its as simple as that.

I have no doubt Guillermo Del Toro could make an exquisite masterpiece, but Hellboy is not it. Now that he can get the budget behind his work he could do something new, nearer to Pan's Labyrinth than Hellboy and get the attention he deserves. I have no doubt he will continue to win awards (its basically imminent with the upcoming Hobbit films), I do in fact think Pan's is a better film than TDK, and I think he will make others that surpass it as well in the future (near future I hope).

I disagree with the idea that HELLBOY 2 is just as good as THE DARK KNIGHT. Both suffer from serious flaws with their main characters, but THE DARK KNIGHT has $185M budget (roughly $100M more than HELLBOY 2) and the first Batman was better than the first HELLBOY. I was intrigued with some of the characters and visuals of HELLBOY, but it looked like Del Toro spent a lot more time on the characters than he did the story, not unlike George Lucas in the new "Star Wars" films. DARK KNIGHT also had the benefit of a major studio and its huge marketing campaign almost a year in advance. Yes, you can say that the death of one of the main actors gave it unprecendented exposure, but if the movie or Ledger's performance or role in the film were mediocre then numbers would be down, but all have quality to them, and so it's uniquely a success. I'm not some of these people that think THE DARK KNIGHT are the bee's knees, I liked the movie, but I didn't love it. But, this film had a lot of intangibles that make it, at least numbers wise, a success more so than HELLBOY 2.

Wall-E is equally as flawed as TDK, you just don't want to see it. The movie started off great, but then degenerated into a moronic (and highly annoying) game of spaceship hide & seek. Personally I would have thought more highly of Wall-E had their kept up the adult level of the early scenes, but the movie began pandering the to kids halfway through, and turned into a "childrens movie" instead of a family film... close but no cigar.
