SUPER LEAGUE STANDINGS - 6/29 (ROUND FOUR FINAL)

Whew. Well, the first ever Half-Year tournaments are now entering their final month, and nineteen stalwarts in each of the Ultimate and Box Office games have but four short weeks to try and jockey for that top spot. But before we put the April leagues in our rear-view, let's take one final look at how things ended. ULTIMATE FULL-YEAR ashkul88 takes first place in the Big Game for the first time this season, earning that precious IM. MrHam and kamakazi_down, on the other hand, are more than happy to "Nyaa nyaa" the rest of the field, stating that if they can't earn an additional IM, well, no one else will either! Seven more players were eliminated, those being Lovely, bernox, jimott01, Stnman5, Prospero de Pasamonte, TeeBeeBee and 19eightyfour. Chuckski26 cashes in HIS only IM, and will have to tread lightly in the second half of the year. And leestu? You owe whatever God you pray to a big fat donation. Taking our first hard look at Round Five, binkley and ashkul seem to have already spent most of their budget, and now play the waiting game to let the rest of the field play catch-up. Meanwhile, the eight-strong RZ (including yours truly) is counting Hancock and Hellboy II to vault them out of danger. Congrats to all who made it past this round, a round that was so tight that even one bad pick could spell doom. Bad news for A_Roode, numbersix_99 and Kompressr, who suffered the sting of defeat for the first time. Meanwhile, in Round Five, ashkul is once again leading the pack, hoping like hell that he can hold the trailing eighteen players at bay. Get comfy, buddy, this is going to be a long month. We actually start the next round with few people with active IMs than when we started this one? The reason? Well, only two people earned them this time (those being Teh_Sham and numbersix_99, and an unbelievable THREE players ended up cashing them in (dranscht, lainiediamond and becs. This meant that only four players got the axe, those being glebe, bernox, cRAzY and lillySpeedRacer???lovelost. (Sorry. I kid because I care.) Meanwhile, in Round Five, Kompressr is but inches away from that $1 billion mark... can he hold off Box Office powerhouse synestro, who is in 2nd place and still has TDK? Should be interesting. Meanwhile, methinks that even Aslan himself will be hard-pressed to save lainiediamond this time. Kudos to J.I. for leading the way, and to the eightteen others who will duke it out in the final round, which, sadly, will not include writers_blocs, Mister Funktastic, numbersix_99, d0nnie dark0 or A_Roode, among others. As I said in the other thread, props to Chienfantome for being the first Mogul in history (as far as I know) to cross the $1 billion mark. His Round Five-leading slate now stands at over $1.018 billion, but will that be enough? I think it will take something like $1.2B to win this tournament! He only mentioned that some personal things had come up to force this decision, and I'm sure that we wish him the best, as well as a speedy return. As a result, he will be the first player cut from Round Five in the Ultimate FY, and the first player cut from Round One in the Ultimate HY2. Wow, a marked improvement for myself I note. Finishing 12th may not appear all that hot, but after the past few months I've had, and to now finally looking like I'm learning how to play the game this is a great result. Beat the GF for the first time too. At last I have the bragging rights for the next month! Although she does still have that damned IM. Maybe this will be the turning point in my game plan, after all, I have survived so far and now I'm looking much stronger.... I'll be eliminated next round.

Curse you, Made of Honor, and your deceptively limp Patrick Dempsey appeal! If Hancock somehow overachieves, Wall-E shows crazy legs, and Made of Honor is the one thing that keeps me from winning the whole half-year thing, I'm mailing that man a turd gift box.

my early favorite for Ultimate HY is the man of the 7 film slate, Mr. Aqua. he's gonna be tops in Box and T5 unless Hancock or Mamma Mia do insane numbers. would be the play of Moguls history if he pulls it off. excited to see how it plays out. on a selfish note, go Hellboy and Kitt.

Man, these tourneys have been amazing. I had to completely destroy my strategy halfway through it and start playing the game differently to compete but it was worth it. Now, to get back in the winner's circle.

Word! [It just doesn't sound right when a middle aged Aussie family man uses urban slang! 8) :lol: ] I really did not expect to make it thru this round. Luckily I believe in Karma so I don't owe anyone any thing, I just have to continue being the best person I can. Although it looks like I might have the same problem next round and I think my luck might run out. I need to do an extremely good deed. Anybody's life need saving? Although that's the weird thing about Karma, as soon as you do something just for the reward, it discounts you from receiving it, so that won't work. Oh well, I will just continue on as usual and hope for the best.

Yes, indeed, geezer, well spotted. Ya little... Over 100 players started in anywhere from 1-4 tournaments. Just shy of 50 decided to have a go in all four. Well I'm not doing so bad aren't I? :P I think my May slates are really pulling through and hopefully it'll be enough to finish on top. An IM would be great in the BO FY and a high placement in the BO HY Final would be awesome. Good luck to everyone in the finals and congrats to all those still in all four! That's pretty cool. I wish I could join you all, but alas, you guys shanked me in the UL HY semis. :-)

Haha thanks for beating me to the punch geez! I was gonna ask for some kudos too, but you know, I get my fair share already, I suppose. It's your turn in the limlight now geez! It's a pity then, that I don't think I've done enough to be a chance of realistically winning any of the half year tournaments though...

I'll have to adjust my strategy for the next batch. I tend to devise a slate and then apply the same one to all leagues. My half-year slates need to be far more aggressive. My full year slates are designed to just keep me in the game and moving from round to round. That doesn't cut it in half year. I need to be far more aggressive and play more dangerous choices. I won? I won? I WON! I WON! I WON! (Well, April-June, anyways.) This is the first league that I have won, and in the Super Leagues! Well, I won't win in all in the Box Office Half Year, but at least I made it into the last round. And I may win the BO 2nd Half Year Round 1, but it looks to be a tie. What happens if there is a tie? I wanna win. But thats awesome, I should get an IM there. Haha, geezer. What a guy.

Well done J.I, but I would be a little apprehensive regarding BO 2nd Half Yr, Round 1. We have both had great starts to the season, but with Hancock just getting going, and TDK, The Mummy, Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder still to come, I think we will just have to hold on tight and ride out the storm.

SUNDAY UPDATE (7/6) According to BOM, the Top 5 and PTA are this: Top 5 1. Hancock (UR: 6.9) 2. Wall-E (UR: now 8.9) 3. Wanted (UR: now 7.5) 4. Get Smart (UR: now 7.4) 5. Kung Fu Panda PTA 1. The Wackness (UR: 6.5) 2. Hancock 3. Wall-E 4. Wanted 5. Mongol (AGAIN!) So, based on that, here are some preliminary updates for the 1st-Half Half-Year tournaments. ULTIMATE ashkul is still in 1st place, only now he is TIED with Chienfantome. Only difference is, ash still has Henry Poole to come out, whereas Chien is out. At this point, it's tough to see just who is still in contention, given that only one person has TDK and four have Hellboy II, and they're all in the bottom half. Seven have X-Files 2's OW, and three have Henry Poole, but will that be enough? It seems to be ash's to lose at this point. BOX OFFICE Chien is still the leader, but this will probably be the last week. Kompressr is only $7M behind with HB2 coming next week. Looking down the rest of the list, it would seem that the two top candidates for victory are: Kompressr - $1.053B, with Indy, Zohan, Hulk, Wanted and HB2 geezer - $890M, with Indy, Zohan, Hulk, HB2 and Dark Knight This should be a great finish! In the Ultimate FY, it looks like binkley, ash and Thomassi87 are going to hang onto their spots in the GZ for another week. In the Box Office FY, Kompressr widens his lead, now amassing over $1.05B with HB2 still to come! I'm guessing the GZ will be he (finally, an IM!) as well as synestro (yes, again), who is at $960M with TDK coming. As for who's in danger, it's impossible to say. Everyone in the RZs have either HB2 or TDK. As Narnia victims, however, I'd say that lainiediamond and rsabin are in the most danger.

Shryke, my maaan, and everyone else who still has the film on one of their May/July slates... HENRY POOLE IS HERE is not going to be released on July 25th but on August 15th. Just wanted to let you know. Box Office Mojo still has not changed the date, and thus nor did FM, but all the other sites on th web list Aug. 15 as the release date.

it doesn't help!! i didn't see it here, and i look to BOM for my release dates....so there was no way i could expect it....and it was the perfect movie to end off my slate - the only category i was kinda weak in was UR, and it would have fixed that with its 7.3!! and now instead i have to settle for "Chimps"....well, at least i can thank my stars there actually was another $2 movie i could pick eh??

I agree with Shryke that it really comes down to Kompressr and myself for the BO HY crown. I am so glad I went with HellBoy 2 and The Dark Knight over WALL-E and The X-Files. Even though I have Wanted on all of my round 6 BO slates, I am so glad to see the nose dive because it was really worrying me being on your slate and not on mine. TDK needs to make up whatever lead you have on me going into its opening weekend. If it can make anything over 210 in 10 days, I believe I have it. If not, I think its yours. Keep in mind, this would only be my second league win, but I guess I would make it count )

Ah yes, I was really depending on Wanted to put some much needed distance between us until TDK came along but it seems that's not really going to happen. Hopefully, it will be just enough seeing as the Super Leagues was my big intro into the FM league playing and would be nice that my first win comes against the best competitors. :)

Ash - Uh yeah, tell me about it. I had $4 left on my slates, for which I was planning on Longshots and Henry Poole. Now, there is nothing left to take so I have to have Space Chimps and a blank slot (still debating whether or not the blank slot will outperform Space Chimps...). This site keeping Henry Poole at July 25th really screwed me good, as I could've just taken Kitt Kittredge had I known. I wish they would just let me have Henry's user rating, that's all I ask for... Oh well.
