SUPER LEAGUE STANDINGS - 5/6

Well, DAMN.

Five Top 5 points, five PTA, an 8.4 User Rating and $102 million to everyone who had Iron Man. It would seem that it was indeed worth the price... in Rounds Four and Five, anyway. I still think $47, which was its price in the Round Three Ultimate (not to mention the whopping $55 that it cost in the Round Three BO) was far too much.

I guess if anyone who picked Iron Man gets eliminated anyway, we'll all have a good laugh at their expense... meanwhile, everyone without Iron Man waits with bated breath, hoping that Indiana Jones can equal or surpass Marvel's latest hit.

On with the results!

ULTIMATE FULL-YEAR

There was no change in in the GZ (or the entire Top 8, for that matter), although Aquamann2001 and tyecopeland13 made huge moves (52-13 and 47-17, respectively). But with four players lurking just outsize the GZ with Indiana Jones still in their gun, methinks there's going to be a lot of changes before the month is out...

At the bottom, it's really tough to tell who is in danger... most people either have one blockbuster or another. Should be exciting!

Round Three: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/7nATpNNvfpZlSqnrF5JovA%3D%3D33301
Round Four: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/jwE%24uTYORQcGRt6Gm9i%24wg%3D%3D32635
Round Five: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/p761FEDsLGo3CsPXGgmRgg%3D%3D29913

ULTIMATE HALF-YEAR

AzureWolf and sean14307 currently occupy the catbird seat, but brockster and BarcaRulz are lurking, like tigers in the weeds, waiting for their favorite archaeologist to put them over the top. Meanwhile, tyecopeland13 and JackO made big moves this week.

With almost a full third of the remaining players due to get the axe at the end of this month, here, too, it is very difficult to pick who is in the most danger. Lovely needs more production from Iron Man to survive, 19eightyfour desperately needs Sex and the City to have a monstrous OW, and czar78 appears to be a lock for last place this round. Bad luck, dude.

Round Three: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/bGzfRNETvNBpm5NC0hn1GA%3D%3D29858
Round Four: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/YU11%24%2BrbYaTVAHyMu3WLuw%3D%3D29331
Round Five: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/7FPAOwFpVwCt3PViQldorQ%3D%3D26131

BOX OFFICE FULL-YEAR

Well, this looks all over but the shouting. synestro has amassed a whopping $452 million, is currently in 2nd place, and STILL has Indiana Jones waiting in the wings. (Too bad you already have an IM, dude. Wink.) Meanwhile, i_valero and Alyson jumped well out of danger (for now).

With only six players being eliminated this round, picking losers here is nigh-impossible, although it is interesting to note than ONLY kerryd opted to fork over the $89 for both Iron Man AND Indiana Jones... will it be enough?

Round Three: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/c6KCw12IOwNEzQMSRy87wQ%3D%3D26639
Round Four: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/9IOvMNUMjmuJ%2BTGcE48Zlw%3D%3D25069
Round Five: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/QhvaOKKySp0vEY1oKXXl6w%3D%3D23080

BOX OFFICE HALF-YEAR

Here, the pressure is REALLY on. With 13 out of 38 players being booted at the end of May, who will have what it takes to stay above the red line?

cRAzY and sobravo16 fill out the GZ for now, but it won't stay that way for much longer, that's for sure. I'm guessing it'll be a race between dranscht (Indy) and Alyson (Iron Man) for top honors.

12 of the bottom 13 are currently waiting on either Mr. Ford or Narnia to save them, and only BrentBaines chose to buy the Iron/Indy combo platter. czar78, here, too, seems to be done.

Round Three: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/qj8sYZ5AjliCJxf9SB01Ug%3D%3D24443
Round Four: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/RzvuWAGQF5%2BF7HPihx1GRg%3D%3D23969
Round Five: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/KGktgfKU4HPhWYNoRSciGg%3D%3D22526

I don't think so Shryke. Seriously, if I don't manage to top the BO HY Rd3 with what I believe is a perfect slate, I swear I'll throw a hissy fit... :D Alyson may move to the top next week with Iron Man holding strong, but WHIV & Indy should push me to the top in the coming weeks IMO.

I'm just grasping onto these little things, as my situation in the other 3 leagues is dreadfully mediocre. I might even get eliminated in Ultimate HY Rd3...

Yeah, all right, you got me there, anny. Maybe I'm just tired of writing your name down under the "kudos" category again! (Wink.)

Just kidding. My guessimations have you winning this thing by a landslide.

It's entirely possible, BTW, that the three of us who currently occupy the Top 3 positions? May not even make the cut. I hope that's not the case, but it is certainly possible. Wouldn't that be a (bleep)?

I'm thinking it will require about $440 million just to make the CUT, a fact made even more interesting by the fact that no one has reached that plateau yet.

Well because I'm such an attention-seeker, I crave kudos, hehe. And since I didn't excel in Rd2 at all, I'm holding onto the fact that I picked such an awesome slate for Rd 3 BO HY.
I've run some scenarios. I need for Made of Honor to squeeze out another $25 if it can.

If Iron Man hits $220M, Indy gets $200M in its first eleven days, and Vegas can pull in about $50M, I may indeed be done... but I'll be very close to the line. cRAzY and sobravo, as you suggested, would be further down in the RZ than me.

If those predictions hold up, the Top 2 (GZ) would be anny and SuperShaan.

I have to hope for Indy to not do QUITE that well, like around $180 million in its first week and half. That would be enough to save me.

By my calculations, cRAzY, J.I. and aadams will ALL be cashing in their IMs. (That flapping sound you hear? That's the Giant Bird of Foreshadowing...)

Re:SUPER LEAGUE STANDINGS - 5/6

Update time!

Well, not much happened in the Round Three standings. Comparatively few people had Vegas, and almost none had Speed Racer (believe it or not, three people took a chance on it in either Round 3 or 4), so there wasn't much shake up in the standings. There'll be even less next week, given that barely a handful of people have opted to put Narnia: Caspian, Padre Nuestro or Reprise on their slate. What everyone IS doing, obviously, is holding their breath to see how big an opening 10 days Indiana Jones will have, for it is that factor, and that factor ALONE, that will determine who stays and who goes in Round Three.

Ultimate FY

GZ: tcwilson, 19eightyfour, sean14307, AzureWolf (same as last week)
Big jumps: Fixius - 26-5, aquamann2001 - 13-6, Kilgore - 24-11, annyonggob888 - 27-13.
Indy Watch - synestro, jas_8382, annyonggob888, MrHam, platinumbear

Who's in Danger - gamb1t. Beyond that...

Ultimate HY

GZ: AzureWolf, sean14307 (same as last week)
Big jumps: codeslinger - 12-6, Chienfantome 23-13, iansky21 - 31-21.
Indy Watch - brockster, BarcaRulz, numbersix_98, Thomassi87

Who's in Danger - czar78 for sure, manincellv and Mister Funktastic are awful far down, and tsabin2 back the wrong big horse.

Box Office FY

GZ: pulpclub, StnMan5, synestro
Big jumps: Alyson - 27-7, i_valero - 25-8,
Indy Watch - synestro, rsabin117, Chuckski26, geezer9687, becs, dranscht, annyonggob888

Who's in Danger - anyone who doesn't have Iron Man, Narnia or Indy, that's for sure! Starting with glebe, czar78, jimott01, and binkley

Box Office HY

GZ: Alyson, annyonggob888 (brand new!)
Big jumps: numbersix_99 - 18-5, i_valero - 21-6
Indy watch - 2/3 of the damn field, including annyonggob888, dranscht, SuperShaan, geezer9687, Mister Funktastic and Kompressr

Who's in Danger - Ironically, the three of us that were #1-#3 last week (cRAzY, sobravo16, and myself... gulp) may very well be toast in three weeks' time. czar78 and binkley are in trouble, and bentley020 and writers_blocs are too far down to make up much ground. cRAzY, J.I. and aadams will probably be cashing in their IMs.

Changes in User Rating have not been made official, so the Ultimate results are not set in stone, but for Box Office, they're pretty much dead-on.

Damn, this is gonna be CLOSE!!!

Don't get me wrong, geez, I think they will all perform better than is being predicted. In fact I think The Hulk could break out and possibly make in the region of $150m, which I see as a great success. It is a little annoying that most of my worst slates have been in the Super Leagues though. In other leagues Im doing pretty good, and with a little luck could even win a regulars league. But I think my picks in the Super Leagues seem to be the ones that bomb each time.

I have tried continually to make my Super League slate my 100% slate, and when I assemble it think it looks kick ass. But within a couple of weeks I quickly regret the choices I had made. I only experiment in the other leagues to give my slates some variety and so that I can fit some movies I really like but expect not to do too well.

Im still not sure whether not picking Iron Man was a bad decision yet only time and Indy will tell. If Indy succeeds, and I expect it to, I will be safe in the knowledge that my slate will survive quite well. It was either Indy or Iron Man, and I think Indy will perform better over all. Iron Man has scared me a little, but that's only because it was released first. Once Indy comes out I hope all my doubts will be alleviated.

But then if you do poorly, you do poorly in every league. In fact you may as well just be in the one league (although different competitors I guess).
This problem is exacerbated in full year and half year because fail in one you are out of both (and they are pretty much the same competition.)

Each to their own, but I enjoy experimenting with different slates. If I only put the movies I like/want on the one slate I will need a 20 movie plus slate with unlimited funds.

And this is all just for fun. Now if there was money riding on it (or other equally important stakes) then I would be right alongside you with every slate the same.

Plus I am still learning. Until I get top 3 every time I play I will keep varying my slates, always searching for the best combos.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but there WILL be some kind of impromptu, unofficial cash prize awaiting the winner of the Ultimate FY tournament. Nico has already agreed to chip in $100 to a prize fund.

This particular tournament is ten rounds... once we hit the end of Round Five (end of July), I'll throw out the possibility if anyone would like to "pitch in" to a prize fund. By then, half of the field will have been eliminated and the really SERIOUS part of the schedule starts.

It would be completely voluntary, of course, only as much as they would want to send in, provided that they trust ME enough to keep all the cash in a shoebox under my bed until the winner had been determined. Optimally, if enough people chip in enough dough, we might be able to afford multiple prizes, say 1st-2nd-3rd. Again, provided that people trust me enough not to abscond with the retire-on-an-island sum of $187.50 or so. (Grin.)

I'll take any comments people might have on the subject, but I'm not going to make any formal announcements until later on on the summer.

Sounds good. Depending on the logistics of getting it to you and the amount I probably would participate. I like the idea of 3 prizes rather than a winner takes all. I apologise if I have inadvertently caused a premature announcement.

Re:SUPER LEAGUE STANDINGS - 5/6

Leestu, I know its only a game and there are no real prizes (other than what was previously mentioned), but I just find it more gratifying when I build a slate and watch it succeed. During the December seasons I made a few different slates, two with NT2, and one with I Am Legend. I hated the fact that my I Am Legend slate outperformed the other 2, even though they all performed quite well. I am yet to have a terrible slate for any season (other than July Ultimate last year but I only had one league then) and I am confident enough that the one slate I do decide on will keep me towards the top of any league. I can always adjust them mid-season, but I adjust all of them. I would rather stick with what I believe to be the best and watch it fail, then cop out, build many, and say "oh well, that slate sucked but at least my backup slate performed well." That would be like making multiple brackets for the NCAA tournament. Its just wrong to me.

I agree with Leestu. I like playing multiple slates. I am way too ADD to only have 1 slate. And I am in no way good enough to win with oine slate. Sometimes you must reorg a slate in order to win. LOL
I have a lot of fun building multiple slates and seeing how they do. If I could play against myself in a league I would. Donte V. 1.0 versus Donte Beta etc. LOL
