I think it will be Jumper. I don't think Fool's Gold will still be strong enough in it's second weekend and I also expect The Spiderwick Chronicles to tank. So what do you think?

Jumper all the way. With Fool's Gold, Spiderwick, Definitely, Maybe & Step Up 2 The Streets a distant 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th respectively.

I'm going for back to back wins for Fools Gold. I think the that a lot of movies will be without a chair, as a great writer wrote, come Valentines' Weekend.

Jumper in a landslide Spiderwick Chronicles is going to tank hard and Fool's Gold holdover wont be strong enough.

I think alot of you guys are underestimating the tide of guys who will be taking their girl out to Dinner & a movie to celebrate V-Day, and that movie won't be Jumper.
Then again, I could be underestimating how attracted the average chick is to Hayden Christiansen.

I agree with you becs, the thing is I believe that demographic will be splitting between Fool's Gold and Definitely, Maybe. Jumper doesn't have any direct competition. Plus, don't forget that the crowd of single guys will pour in to see Jumper, and even those in a relationship have the weekend to go back and check out Jumper with their friends (provided they aren't completely whipped). Think about it, not too many guys are going to actually choose to go see Definitely, Maybe or Fool's Gold.

I don't understand why everyone thinks Spiderwick is gonna be this big flop. It got the PG rating it was looking for (it's fairly graphic fantasy- violence at times), and is the only family movie to open since Alvin in 2007!

In 2007, Terabithia opened #2 with 22.6 mil. Though not #1, it's certainly a decent opening for something not nearly as hyped as Spiderwick. 2006 is a great place to look at other such family openings. Pink Panther and Curious George both opened in the same weekend and did 20.2 and 14.7 mil respectively. That's a combined 34.6 mil between two movies that share a partial audience. And if that wasn't enough, Eight Below opened the following weekend at 20.2putting 3 family movies in the top 5 for the President's Day weekend.

It doesn't matter how good/bad of a movie Spiderwick is going to be (although I've seen it and it's certainly no worse than your average family adventure), the fact that it's opening on a holiday, family-oriented weekend should be more than enough to fight for the #1 spot, and it certainly WONT BE A FLOP!

(Don't forget that Valentine's Day is only one day and it's not like school/work are canceled)

Also, Valentine's Day is on Thursday the 14th, not part of the 15-17 weekend as described in the poll. The "dating audience" doesn't come close to competing with the likes of the male 12-24 audience (Jumper) and the family audience (Spiderwick) that both benefit from having what really turns out to be a two-Saturday weekend due to the Monday holiday. Fool's Gold doesn't stand a chance at #1.

I'm not sure where you live that Spiderwick is so hyped, but I have yet to see a single ad for it since the original teaser trailer MONTHs ago. I've honestly seen more ads for Inkheart at this point than Spiderwick.
Mind you this is aside from my movie reasearching, I have imdb'd spiderwick and watched trailers for it there and on apple, but strictly going by what I have seen without pursuing it myself, its been that 1 teaser.

Well, unless you're a serious Nickelodeon watcher, you're not going to have seen a whole lot of ads. With two weeks to go, the adds on major networks will start showing up after Hannah Montana is out of the way. Paramount doesn't need to spend a whole bunch of money with early marketing because Spiderwick will be sharing it's audience the least of any other movie opening in the vicinity of President's Day weekend.

Plus, I said "more hyped that Terrabithia," which it has been...not that it matters.

I think there is a little bit of something for everyone. Jumper for the boys, Fool's Gold for the girls, and Spiderwick for kiddies.

I have no interest in Jumper, but other people do.

However, Fool's Gold has too mega house stars in it. I think it'll be a very close call between Jumper and Fool's Gold.

"Mega house stars" = ?

I hope you're talking about Donald Sutherland and (yes, THE) Malcolm Jamal-Werner (from "The Cosby Show"), because you can't be referring to McConaughey and Hudson as "mega house stars."

They were golden in "How to Bore a Guy Stupid in 10 Minutes", but since then, Hudson's been getting divorced and falling flat. Cue: Michael Jackson's "Bad"...since nominal success in "How to...", she followed up with "Alex & Emma", "Le Divorce", "Raising Helen", "The Skeleton Key", and "You, Me and Dupree". Whew! Busy last couple of years with bland films. In fact, she did enough bland films for her and her mom (Goldie Hawn), that her mom decided to make a late exit into the night. Now, her daughter has been passed the torch to keep the Hawn family name of mediocre films alive. I challenge the man that thinks Kate Hudson owns any of her movies on DVD.

Since Matthew McConaughey has delighted fans worlds over in "How to...", he's been busy himself. Films such as "Sahara", "Tiptoes" (straight-to-video), "Two for the Money", "Failure to Launch" and the blunder that was "We Are...Marshall". Yes, better numbers he did than Hudson, but that's no tough task.

Point is that these are not the stars they once were or as I'd argue, were never. McConaughey has done some large bodies of work, but Hudson hasn't proven herself as a standalone leading lady. Still, the most notoriety she's garnered was from a fantastic supporting role in "Almost Famous". We'll definitely see if these have what it takes to stay even in the top 3 after their easy opening next weekend. But, if America were like me, they'd stay home and watch "Overboard" (1987) starring Hudson's mom, considering "Fool's Gold" looks like a pseudo-remake of that.
