It looks awful. Like the Fast and the Furious 3 on an acid buzz. It looks as plotless and vacuous as the original cartoon. I'll be avoiding that one.

Who cares if it's plotless? FF3 barely had a plot but I still enjoyed it, that redneck was funny.

As long as this can be......... 'entertaining'.... yeah hear that word guys? 'Entertaining' and also doesn't take itself seriously. As long as it can do that and not bore the shit out of me it will be better than a certain other film this year..... don't want to mention the film but the title is a number.....

2001? 7? 23?

From the trailer, the film seems to take itself pretty seriously. Hirsch's lines about doing what I do best is pretty silly and badly delivered. I was kind of hoping for a few jokes to lighten the mood. So it seems to be taking itself seriously yet with these ridiculous racing scenes.

I don't know. Maybe I'm getting old but I can think of a thousand better ways to spend 2 hours rather than go to see Speed Racer.

Don't worry six, Hirsch's parents John Goodman and Susan Sarandon will provide the comic relief.

Of the three new trailers that came out online yesterday, at least this one is better than Sex and the City, right?

Ugggh, this looks terrible. Emile Hirsch as Speed Racer? Are you serious? He looks like he's taking this waaay too seriously. This movie is based off of a dubbed Japanese cartoon from the 70s-80s and here you've got John Goodman talking about " RACING CAN'T CHANGE THE WORLD!!!" and Hirsch looking like the uber-douchebag with "Racing is all I know how to do pop and that's what I'm going to do."

Ahhhh, it hurts my brain to listen to that terrible dialogue. And that's in the trailer which is supposed to entice people, imagine what the rest is like.

Not even gonna touch on the awful scenery, it looks like a Midnight Club movie.

I'm not gonna touch this movie next year.

Probably 'cause it's all green screen.

numbersix, old friend, I feel just the same. When I saw the trailer I thought "Man, I'm 26 years-old, and I feel like I'm a grandpa already. Does this look cool end exciting ? It looks like shit to me !".
Not for me.

I haven't even seen the trailers, but that line at the end sounds pretty funny to me. That line is certainly not serious. I really don't care how good the movie is, I just love Emile Hirsch. I will go see anything with him in it. Seriously, anything.

And Tuan, did you honestly say that you liked Fast and the Furious 3? Good Lord, now I am of the opinion that you say you like certain movies just for the shock value you get from reactions.

My dad is a huge speed racer fan. From what you all are saying it sounds like he's going to be very disappointed.
And just when I started to like Mr. Hirsch. Oh well. We can still look forward to Iron Man.

Of the four huge movies coming out in 5/08, this one definitely looks like the one with the cloudiest outlook.

My early predictions:

Indiana Jones IV - $275 million
Prince Caspian - $215 million
Iron Man - $165 million
Speed Racer - $130 million

It is the Wachowskis, after all, so that will count for something.

Haven't heard word one about Starship Dave.

I wouldn't be all that surprised to see Sex and the City approach Devil Wears Prada-like $120 million numbers... I don't get why there are so many people that are so obsessed with the show, but it still wouldn't surprise me.
