So, I just watched a trailer for a sweet new movie called 21.... The premise is awesome (adapted from a NY Times Bestseller Topper) and it's got Kevin Spacey, Lawrence Fishburne and Jim Sturgess (the kid from Across the Universe)!!!! It's picking up some buzz and all sounds good....wonder what it'll cost in FM leagues....oh, and it's premiering in Las Vegas!!!!

Ha, funny you mention that.
I probably wouldn't pick it up 'til February - April leagues, though, because it comes out on the last weekend in March. Although if it's pretty cheap (like $5 or less) I might go for it.

The trailer for 21 was tacked on at the showing of The Golden Compass that I went to, and it is definitely a must see as far as I'm concerned. I think it will be a great mid-level pick, not a blockbuster but reliable for a solid BO and UR, and at least a few top 5.

The trailer is really amazing. I loved how towards the end, the movie starts feeling like a thriller with the main guy kind of turning against Kevin Spacey. Can't wait for it....

Does anyone else think the trailer implies (just a little bit) that Spacey might be kind of a bad guy; have some nefarious intentions of his own?

yeah, i did get the 'own intentions' thing from the trailer....and the really funny thing about this is that i mentioned it yesterday, and today, Mr. Info gave this movie an honourable mention in his column looking ahead to pre-summer!!!!

It was filmed at my school (Boston University, though it actually takes place at MIT), and my math professor served as an "mathematics consultant" for it...Bias aside, it could be one of the bigger spring movies in what looks like a pretty barren slate...

March is always an interesting month, but I wouldn't count on 21 being more than a modest hit. It might do $30-$40M (around what Smokin' Aces did), but I wouldn't count on more. It's not exactly Ocean's Eleven, after all.
In March, you've also got 10,000 B.C., which could be pretty big; Horton Hears a Who, which could pull in Meet the Robinsons numbers and flirt with the $100M mark; Drillbit Taylor, which could pull in scores of sympathy bucks; Meet the Browns, Tyler Perry's next moneymaker; and Wanted, which looks like Mr. and Mrs. Smith meets Alex Rider: Stormbreaker.
I don't think 21 will top any of these films, but if, as you say, it's priced at around $5, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat.

I think 10,000 BC and Wanted are gonna be huge. This is based purely on the very good looking trailers

21 just lost one competitor, Wanted has been pushed back to June 27. It will now take on Wall-E and Valkyrie.

Yeah, Wall-E is still opening in June. I think my post was a little confusing. Maybe this will make things clearer:
21 opens March 28
Wanted opens June 27
Wall-E opens June 27
Valkyrie opens June 27
