Hamlet 2

10/10

Read my Tropic Thunder review except substitute Steve Coogan for Robert Downey Jr.

Get Smart: 4/10

It was all over the place. The jokes were mostly tired, and often borrowed from other films/comedies (the existential line is taken from Woody Allen, for example), some of the acting was hammy, and Steve Carrell just couldn't make the character his own.

'Death Race' 6/10 (must be Christmas since I'm in the giving mood)

Seen the trailer? Seen the film. Tyrese's character is homosexual, which I thought was stunningly inventive given the scriptwriter. Sliding back into predictability, it is used solely to make a few tasteless jokes before being forgotten about. Pretty standard fare for Anderson. If you've watched his other films, you know exactly what to expect. Except less. Brain still hurts too much to think about it.

Tropic Thunder- 8.8/10

If you are looking for a great laugh, I mean a dirty, dark, gut busting laugh, please go see this movie.

The trailers in the beginning were pure genius. I loved RDJ's the best. Tobey Maguire has one of the best cameos in the movie.

Booty Sweat...that is all I'm gonna say.

"Here's my farm, motherfucker". and "If you cut me down this tree, I will suck your dick right now". Two of my favorite lines. Oh and "You never go completely retarded".

RDJ is my hero. My god, everything he said was funny as hell. Whether talking like a black guy or Australian.

Jack Black was actually surprisingly alright. I think that whole quitting heroin cold turkey was hysterical. "We better hurry up. We only 16 hours 'til they wake up".

Ben Stiller was great too. He does play the straight man in the movie, but every movie needs one.

Tom Cruise was the one who stole the scenes. I will not say much, but go just to see what he does. If you think you know Tom Cruise, you don't know until you see this movie. The end credits, especially, will leave you stunned.

I don't mind the happy ending. The whole movie was a lot of jabbing at Hollywood, and in typical fashion, there would be a Hollywood ending to cap it off.

I wouldn't mind seeing this again.

Agreed. it really took me back to Magnolia. These totally over the top characters are clearly a win for Cruise, why the hell hasn't he been doing it more often?!

Absolutely. Tom Cruise and Philip Seymour Hoffman were the highlights in that movie for me. Seeing Tom doing the motivational talk was absolutely amazing. He does need to do more outside the box things.

Death Race 9/10

It was very well done Paul W.S Anderson might as well be Michael Bay Jr. because he blows up a lot of stuff in this film A must-see for action and Jason Staham fans. Shryke you will have a review from me tommorow.

Death Race **.5/****

Given Anderson's track record, I thought this would be a piece of shit. It turns out to be the best film of his career.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona *.5/****

The most boring and misleadingly promoted film of the summer (Penelope Cruz plays a supporting role and doesn't appear until a hour in). The film lacks energy, has no interesting characters (other than Cruz's suicidal artist character) and has a very bad narration track that does nothing but states the obvious. It's basically just Woody Allen editing together parts of Scarlett Johansson to masturbate to.

Tropic Thunder 8/10

Great film, probably had too high expectations but it never waived my attention, Jack Black was good, Downey Jnr was awesome, Stiller was cool and the rest of the cast were great too. Tom Cruise had more of a small role than a cameo- which was awesome and Matt McConaughey's role was like his one from Two for the Money cross with Sahara, i wonder what it would of been like for Owen Wilson? Nick Noltes role was pretty minimal, ditto that for Danny McBride and Steve Coogan, but still not bad.

Death Race - 7/10

Action, action, and more action. Starts off slow, but picks up when the actual racing starts. Statham delivers again, it seems like he can't miss lately. Tyrese's character was cool, albeit unneeded. The tacked on epilogue was terrible, they should've kept the original ending (it's the line that Ian McShane delivers BTW)

Tyrese's character was needed. He was the guy trying to kill Frankenstein in the game. If you ever saw the original, Machine Gun Joe was Frankenstein's rival. In this version, Machine Gun Joe is still Frankenstein's rival. It doesn't make sense without Machine Gun Joe.

And did anyone notice David Carradine's voice cameo in the film? I thought that was a nice touch.

An Evening with Kevin Smith - 9/10. I know he tends to illicit some strong reactions either to positive or to negative, but I just freakin love Kevin Smith, and this is just like chillin with the man for 3 hours. Great Stuff.
