NOW HEAR THIS!!! Use this "DIGRESSIONS" thread to discuss non-germane topics, like, for instance, American-rules football, your favorite Fantana, or the airspeed velocity of an airborne swallow. (European or African, it's up to you!)
I remain, as always...

Monty Python and the Holy Grail was my first true love, as far as the comedic troupe's films go... But, in the fullness of time, my favorite Python film has actually turned out to be The Life of Brian.

The Holy Grail?
(Disclaimer: You have read my bio, right?)
I remember John Cleese saying in an interview that it was never their intention to make fun of religion in Life of Brian, but rather the way people blindly followed religious leaders. If you remember, they caught no small amount of grief and flak from the Catholic Church, and I also remember seeing a clip of some round-table show featuring Cleese (or possibly Palin, I'm not sure), where the religious highbrows had their brows furrowed and their fingers steepled, with ominous stares that clearly said "I'm God's messenger, who the F*CK are you?" To their credit, John (Michael?) held his ground saying, "You can dismiss us, but you cannot ignore us. Not anymore."
That was the quintessence of Monty Python. Irreverent. Boundless. Utterly fearless.
And Holy Grail? Funniest film ever. Period.
"Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know..."

Michael Palin is the best Python in the world, and his real name is John Cleese.

Actually, Hassing, numbersix is right. John Cheese IS Cleese's birth name. He admitted as much in an interview.

Okay, well, his Dad's surname was Cheese, until he changed it when entering WWI (probably to save himself from endless mocking)

I think the AL wins the World Series this year. From the NL side, I'd go with either Philly or Arizona. The Rockies won today, but I don't think they'll win the series, and... well, anybody but the Cubs. If my Brewers hadn't had such a rough August it'd be them in the playoffs. Regardless, though, Boston, the Angels, and Cleveland are all better than any of the NL teams... and the Yankees, well, they're the Yankees, they're expected to win.
