I saw a commercial for Good Luck Chuck yesterday that completely reimagined the movie's plot! It implied the movie was about a clumsy girl (Alba) looking for love and the whole commercial was scenes of her being clumsy. Chuck was just an afterthought.
The best part was how the announcer pronounced the name of the movie. He said, "Good Luck, Chuck" with a pronounced pause after "luck" as in, "Good luck with that clumsy girl, Chuck!" Of course in actuality the title isn't wishing Chuck good luck, it's saying Chuck is good luck.
You can see a version of this new trailer on the film's myspace page: http://myspace.com/goodluckchuck
So I guess this is the place to discuss all things Good Luck Chuck (which, btw, looks awful no matter what version of the trailer you see), but also I wonder if any one else has seen examples of trailers and commercials so blatantly falsifying a movie's plot?

I think I have it in all my leagues. You can't go wrong with Cook and Alba. The hotties of both sexes. So my gf tells me. I think its gonna be hilarious. If I wasn't dirt poor I would definately drive an hour to go see it.

When I first saw that commercial my first thought was "Oh boy, they are advertising Jessica Alba, they know what they got and are going to flaunt it." This to me looks like a horrible movie but I have it in both of my leagues. I believe the hype.

[Shrug] I don't know, I think playing up Alba's role is a pretty smart move. I mean, think about it: How many more women might have taken their boyfriends / spouses / significant others / future exes to see Knocked Up, if the ads hadn't had to rely on Seth friggin' Rogen to sell the film as its male lead? If that film had starred Matthew McConaghey, Tobey Maguire or Hugh Grant, it would've hit $200 million.
I remain, as always...

Sure it might've hit $200 mil, but the movie would have been a whole lot less interesting. I mean, I seriously doubt Katherine Heigl would've been as emotionally conflicted if she was having the child of Matthew McConaghey.

P.S.
Just imagine McConaughey in "Knocked Up" in place of Rogen's character when he rescued his bong from the earthquake. Wow. Priceless.

I actually don't think the movie looks that awful. It's my top choice next weekend (I'm not really a Resident Evil guy). It won't do spectacular business, but considering it's pretty cheap in any available league, the business it does do will make it worth the $3 you spend.

Well... erm... ye-esssss, la_resistance, I certainly concede your point. Rogen's Everyman-ness and total stoner mediocrity was sort of the whole source of dramatic tension in Knocked Up, and to be sure Katherine Heigl'd be far less averse to the whole notion if she knew she was about to give birth to a drum-banging (not to mention, bonging) Adonis. Good call, and such a casting choice could only have harmed the film... but I still say it would have done more business.
Then again, Ghost Rider, too, did well over $100M. And I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.
I remain, as always...
Nico.

This looks like hilarious but i think they lost some money taking it to the R rating. So many preteens/teens have Dane Cook set as their idol and they're going to be dissapointed they can't watch him do Jessical Alba.

I don't think the R rating hurts it THAT much. In general, I think the notion that an R rating dampens box office prospects is a little overblown.

Totally Agree dranscht because if underage kids want to see R rated movies they find ways in i know i do and it works and i see what i want to see no problems plus look at Knocked Up and Superbad they made 100 million no problem so an R rating does not hurt the box office.
