I borrowed the Hollywood remake of Pulse from the library. I know it died in the theatres, but I guess I am more than willing to watch mediocre/ bad movies when they are free. I thought the story and concept was cool, but I thought the follow through was overplayed. I thought it felt overacted, over special effected (if that is a word), and poorly written.

I wanted to like it but two things really held me back. First, the monsters were never entirely convincing ot me. They looked cool, but they always felt like effects to me- no more, no less. Second, I thought there inheritently backwards about a movie concerned about the dangers of techological curiousity in a format that constantly utilizes the most up to date technology whenever it gets the chance. It seemed to me as logical as cigarette companies making anti-smoking advertising geeared towards its starting base audience- oh, wait, they are doing that. Nevermind-strike that example.

I also got to watch Jackass 2. I liked the first one better. I felt like the second one was trying to hard to be ruder, cruder and more crass. They don't need to try that hard. It comes quite naturally from them.

I thought it was much meaner and rough than the first one, if only so it could push the boundaries more. I just thought that in the first one they were having more fun making it and showed.

Lookin back, if i knew then what I know now. I wouldn't have even got pulse for free. As for Jackass. I could watch both all day long.(by all day long I mean watch one. Then two. and then sleep the rest of the day.) Great movies though. Wish I got paid for all the crazy shit I've done with my friends.

I just saw Death Sentence in the theatre this weekend - it delivered everything I expected, as someone else on the forum mentioned earlier it was "revenge porn". It wasn't a great film, but I went in with realistic expectations and was pleasantly suprised by Kevin Bacon's performance, and my boyfriend enjoyed the movie even more than I did, so I would say it was an overall good choice.

So Tuan, if the chickiest of chick flicks had a killer space fight sequence, it would be a potentially good movie?

'hollywood, I said the idea of Pulse was good. I agree that the follow through was lacking. I will have to watch the original sometime (I think it is a Korean film). Has anyone seen the original?

Tuan, I can't agree with you more. I got drug to Titanic by an ex-girlfriend (notice the ex) and it was possibly the longest theatre experience I have ever had. Titianic has to be one of the most personally uninteresting films I have sat through. But the popcorn was good.

Now if they would only add an explosion or two or to Dirty Dancing, I might actually tolerate it.

I saw Almost Famous this morning for the first time. I thought it was good technically, but never really connected with emotionally, which is what I think you are supposed to do with movie like that. I thought the acting was solid, especially the bad members, the pacing matched the docufilms that were made in the 70's following rock bands.

I thought the movie was to in industry for my taste. I can see why the story is interesting, especially considering it was based mostly on true experiences. I think that is a big reason why it did poorly in the theatres and has built a solid audience base.

I thought the women's role were not nearly as good the men's. Frances McDormand character was overplayed for me (I hope Cameron Crowe's wasn't that questionably sane) and Kate Hudson did nothing to impress me with her role. Come to think of it, I have never really seen the draw for her cute little blondness).

I do actually like some movies. I just seem to be experiencing the ones that don't impress me all in one clump.

I saw Death Sentence on Monday. Aside from some of the dramatic stuff, it was actually a pretty decent flick. Some of the best stunts I've seen in a while(freaking loved the one-shot parking garage chase scene).

Watched Syriana last night finally - really excellent flick. I is somewhat segmented, but all the different plot lines give you a bigger picture of how things are interconnected, and one groups actions impact someone else. It was definitely an interesting "conspiracy theory" type thinker.

Shoot 'Em Up - 8.5

Aside from a couple short pauses, this is THE ultimate guy flick. The action starts within the first 2 minutes, and it rarely ever lets up. Clive Owen is beyond awesome in this one, never has a carrot made a man be so badass.
