I was just wondering what everyone thought of the invasion. I have it in my studios but i cant decide if i should keep it or not. Early reviews havent been to kind and all those reshoots. but i thought the trailer was strong and the main public wont care about reshoots, at least not until after they see it. So do you think it will hit or miss? And if its a miss what are some better deals?

I think its a gamble but i believe it will do decently open at number 3 or 4 this weekend make about 45-55 million domestically.

I think people are underestimating The Invasion. FM are predicting an 11m weekend in 2800 theatres, which is an utter bomb.
I can't follow the press in the USA, but I am concerned its not as aggressive. Still, it's a film with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, two huge stars of the screen. And it's a sci-fi flick with a half-decent trailer, as you say, which to me spells a big crowd. I'd like to see how it's tracking, but I'm playing a cautious game.
I predict the Invasion getting a 20mil opening, meaning it will struggle with Superbad and Rush Hour 3 for a Number One spot. I think Superbad may win, due to favourable reviews. I think Invasion will get the Number 2 spot, and the Number 5 spot next weekend. It may get a PTA point as well.
I have dropped The Invasion from my July seasons and picked Superbad. But in my August leagues I have both films to ensure 12 Top 5, 3 PTA, 13 IMDB points, and about 80-100 mil cume for both films together, which isn't bad for 20 dollars in total.
My opinion: it's still a good option, but you may be better off dropping it in any July season.

Super Bad will blow it out of the water in my opinion. Remakes generally aren't huge blockbusters and Superbad has pretty much been advertised everywhere. Not too mention school is about to start up so all the middle aged people that would normally go watch the invasion will probably be to tired from shopping for their kids to go see it. And all the older teenagers that would normally go see it would much rather see superbad. I mean. who wouldn't. It will make some money. but I don't think they're underestimating it that much. Just me thinking aloud.

Yeah good point cRAzy me and all my friends are seeing Superbad this weekend. Plus besides that Superbad is getting better buzz and has been advertised a lot more and The Invasion trailer is just average and The Superbad trailer is amazing.

Kidman's hotness and skill aside (is constantly praised), she has to be one of the more overrated box office stars in the industry. she hasn't had a legitamate hit for a while and she is a fairly prolific actress. Daniel Craig really only has one legitimate hit and it is Bond Movie (see Pierce Brosnan).
I think the pedigree looks good to those on the inside, but outside the those who know, this co0uld could be a harder sell than the studio is planning on. I expect this to underwhelm.

Of the last 5 films in wide release Kidman has starred in, they have all made over 50million, and opened at about 20mil. Even if Invasion follows in Bewitched or the Stepford Wives' footsteps, it should be Number 2 this weekend, and Number 5 next weekend. As for Craig, he has made more of an impact with Casino Royale than Brosnan did, and has a much better repertoire than the Man from Navan.

Adding to numbersix's thoughts I would also suggest that 'Rush Hour 3' and 'Superbad' share much of the same audience. Do not discount the possibility of these films cannibalizing each other's box office because there just aren't enough movie-goers for them both to thrive. I don't think 'The Invasion' wins the weekend (despite the uber-ad saturation we've been bombarded with over the last two weeks) but I feel cautiously optimistic of a decent debut this weekend.

I hope it bombs as the reviews for it have been terrible.

Looks like I'm eating my words from Mase's figures. Now it seems the Invasion won't make it past 15mil this weekend, which means it will struggle to even get a 3rd place. I'm dropping it in most leagues unless I'm after a BO boost.

We had our quality check of it here last night; the people who watched it said it was better than expected. One said in retrospect, Warner Bros. is marketing it incorrectly; it's more suspense/thriller than horror. Still, that doesn't really help its box office prospects...

I loved the movie. Though it was great. although really weird. Lot of throwing up and spitting. I still don't think it will do very good though. I heard superbad was really funny. Either way. Its gonna be a slow weekend. School starting soon. Tax free weekend in texas. Yup. Box office is goin down.
