why does everyone call paul giamatti underrated? he is an oscar nominee with quite a few staring roles in the works and nothing but critics, commercial, and industry respect. someone can only be called underrated for so long until we kinda get the idea

what's the difference between favourite and best actor? In the end, aren't both subjective enough to mean the same?

Anyway, I don't have any overall favourites, as there's no actor that hasn't stunk at one stage or another. I would like to mention DeNiro or Pacino, but it's getting to the stage now that their modern roles are SO awful as to lessen their astounding output in the 70s. I always enjoyed watching Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, even when they were grumpy old stereotypes. And Jack Nicholson, who is the most consistently good actor over time.

Good modern actors are Christian Bale, Ed Norton, Paul Giamatti, Naomi Watts, Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett, and Kate Winslett.

There are some actors who when even in bad films, they manage to shine, such as Gary Oldman, David Thewlis, Richard Burton, and John Hurt.

number_six couldnt agree more they are the same thing thats why i didin't put best actors.

I'm personally of the opinion if you have to name specific films they were good in, they probably aren't the best...
