Stardust will probably make more at the box office, but 3:10 to Yuma looks like the better film...

3:10 to Yuma will get much better ratings and its one of the few western movies we've seen in a while. It will be seen by many!

3:10 will NOT make more money, it is a Western which is essentially a dead genre, and Stardust is a kids fantasy movie. I do believe that I'll prefer 3:10, but I think Stardust will gross more. However, in terms of Ultimate Moguls, 3:10 may be the better pick

I have both films but from a cost/benefit perspective I'd give the slight edge to '3:10 to Yuma.' 'Stardust' is slightly over-priced at $24 in the current league and may not finish better than third place it's opening weekend! It won't outdraw 'Rush Hour 3' and it will have its work cut out to bring down a very strong second week from 'The Bourne Ultimatum.' Bit of disaster if you look at it in those terms. '3:10 to Yuma' has fewer weeks to work with but stands a very good chance of scoring more top 5 overall even though box office take will be less. PTA is a wild card for both films. I think we might find the Neil Gaiman fan boys are able to offer 'Stardust' a artificial spike in iMDb which '3:10' may not be able to match.
But it still comes down to cost. You might be better off choosing '3:10 to Yuma' and complimenting it with 'King of Kong: A Pocketful of Quarters' than you would in having 'Stardust.'
I've got 'em all but it comes down to economy and, really, where you are in terms of league positioning.
I vote '3:10 to Yuma.' Best of luck in your league(s)!

3:10 has been seeing plenty of positive critical response, while i believe mase mentioned that stardust was tracking softer than expected, so i'd go with 3:10....also, as A_Roode pointed out, better cost/benefit ratio....
also, i think 3:10 could be the movie to reawaken an essentially dead genre of american cinema....might not do so well outside the US, but we don't care about that here right??

Thanks for the response. I'm fairly new here (this is my second season) and I'm hoping to do well this time after my disastrous finish last season.

Is it in a different league because I have both films priced the same ($14 each).....

Western is so not dead. I agree Stardust will most likely make much more money. But they are still cranking out some pretty good westerns. I haven't seen open range yet but it looks good. You should watch Seraphim Falls. Although it lacks in action. The acting and storyline were brilliant. Probably one of my favorite Pierce Brosnan movies now. Liams done better but he's awesome in anything he does. Like 3:10 to Yuma. Christian Bale and Liam together. I will defiantely be going to see this movie.

Crazy, look at the box office results for Seraphim Falls and IMDB score to see how much interest there is in westerns. Even two top actors couldn't draw in audiences.
Admittedly, Crowe and Bale are hotter than my fellow Irishmen, but alas I just can't see 3:10 storming the box office. It won't do bad, but I seriously doubt it'll make over 50 million

Like i said in a previous post, I am in total agreement with Numbersix, general public isn't ready for Westerns to make a comeback. I wholly expect 3:10 to be an excellent movie, do well critically, and potentially even win some awards, but it will have mediocre box office performance at best.
Go with Stardust because of the limited family friendly/kid friendly selections in the late fall season (studios focused on putting out award worthy "serious" movies) from what i've seen.

Since he became a star with Gladiator, Russell Crowe's worst BO performance was A Good Year ($7 mil), followed by Proof of Life ($32 mil). With Bale and Mangold on board, there's no way 3:10 can be as terrible as AGY (of course, I thought the Crowe-Ridley pairing was unbeatable too...), so I'd imagine 3:10 ending up somewhere closer towards Proof Of Life's $$.
