C'mon fellow mogulers, place your bets now.

I'm calling for Pixar's Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo) directed epic space masterpiece Wall-E to have the best RottenTomatoes score and also an IMDB that will stay in the Top 80.

From everything I've read and seen of the film, this film will be a landmark. Something Pixar's always worked on and this is the film that will show the world the greatness that is a great story combined with Pixar's visuals.

For people who have no idea what Wall-E is here's a short synopsis:

WALL-E is the story of the last little robot on Earth. He is a robot that his programming was to help clean up. You see, it's set way in the future. Through consumerism, rampant, unchecked consumerism, the Earth was covered with trash. And to clean up, everyone had to leave Earth and set in place millions of these little robots that went around to clean up the trash and make Earth habitable again.

Well, the cleanup program failed with the exception of this one little robot and he's left on Earth doing his duty all alone. But it's not a story about science fiction. It's a love story, because, you see, WALL-E falls in love with [Eve], a robot from a probe that comes down to check on Earth, and she's left there to check on and see how things are going and he absolutely falls in love with her

From the Comic-Con reports, people have said that the first 10mins of Wall-E footage they showed was better than anything at Comic-Con this year.

I can't wait for it.

So what do you guys reckon will be truly 'great' films?

It might be the best of summer, but I don't doubt that some of the Fall Oscar contenders might be more highly reviewed... Anyway, speaking of "Wall-E", Disney just launched a website for the fictional "company" that makes Wall-E! Check it out, they have other robots for sale too! Haha. http://www.buynlarge.com

This site is awesome. That's what you call an awesome viral marketing site.

I love the other robots, especially Garry, sorry, GARE-E.

That's a tough call, tuan. Just like most years, most of the "quality" films probably won't come out until the end of the year, and very few things are cemented that far in advance except for the big-budget blockbusters.

As for the blockbusters themselves, I agree "Wall-E" will probably be exceptionally well-reviewed... not exactly a long-shot bet, since "quality" is Pixar's middle name. "Dark Knight" has a chance, if Nolan can recapture the magic. "Indy IV" has an outside choice, if Spielberg and Ford can breathe life back into that franchise again.

Why not ask: what will end up being the best-reviewed movie of THIS year? My money's on American Gangster.

I expect great reviews for that one (American Gangster), but oddly when the preview for it came on before the showing of Bourne I went to, the audience response was deadpan! There were some big name trailers, and the only one that even got a response was Death Sentence, which I would be surprised to see do terribly well.

since it's been brought up (looking at you becs), you guys know anything about death sentence?? i've been sniffing for days now for vibes surrounding this movie, but have come up with zilch....

as for best reviewed movie of this year - i'm going with american gangster too, though i think one worthy of mention is pixar's lovable gallic rodent, in whose direction not a single critical poison dart has been fired as far as i can see....

Yeah, American Gangster looks to be like a classic in the making.

I have yet to see Ratatouille. I can't wait to see it.

Ash - all I can say was there was definite interest in the theatre I was in, which surprised me considering the major trailers it was competing with. I was also surprised by how Kevin Bacon was shown in the trailer, he seems to have gone through a bit of an acting makover if the movie holds true to the acting style shown in the trailer (pleasent surprise if it does). I think it will follow on the coat-tails of Live Free Die Hard, its got a great vibe in the vigilate justice action genre.

cool, thanks becs, big help....i'm gonna hold on to this one until i hear something negative about it....mase or shryke haven't mentioned this reel yet, have they??

looks like this could be a potential surprise....then again, i might get burned pretty bad....but what the hell, that's why i'm spending make-believe dollars on a fantasy game instead of investing in hollywood....

Im undecided about american gangster. Russel Crowe is great. Denzel is also great. It looks like a really good movie. Just something about it makes me have doubts on just how good it will be. But I'm sure its just me and it'll turn out to be a really good movie. It won't beat american history x. But it still looks good.
Im putting my money on Death Sentence. I like the saw guys. I like Kevin Bacon(as long as he keeps his clothes on). I like guns. John Goodmans pretty good. And the car in the preview looks really cool. Plus a lot of people are gonna die. So I'm looking forward to this one.
