The Lives of Others is the only recent film I can think of with a strong storyline

For 2007, I'd have to say that the strongest storylines have been Mr. Brooks, Fracture, and The Lookout.

No, but thats the whole point... you *think* most of it is just drug induced insanity, but whether you disagree or not, the plot develops, comes to head, twists, and closes. I dunno, I love both Phillip K. Dick and Linklater, so I guess I'm somewhat biased.

By the time the plot does come to a head, I'm so bored by repetitive drug-induced rambling that I really couldn't care. And casting Keanu Reeves as a man suffering an identity crisis was a bad, bad, move. He can't even play dead.

Going to side with numbersix on this one -- personally mystified by the plus 7 iMDb rating. Love Philip K Dick adaptations but the only thing which kept me watching was the hope that every character might get together for a little blue Kool Aid. Just not for me Becs.
Drugs destroy people. Gotcha.

Just thought I'd add. I thought scanner darkly was a great movie with an excellent cast.
Anyways. I would half to go with Sunshine. I recently saw this and for a limited release it was one hell of a good sci-fi movie. The acting was good. The end was incredible. The storyline. Well developing(if that makes sense). all around it was just a really good movie.

The Prestige looks interesting. It's on satellite right now, I might have to watch it.
I'm still thinking about this...

The Prestige isn't a bad choice, despite getting abit silly towards the end. You can always rely on Bale for a good performance.
Children of Men? Sure, it's entertaining, but there's no much in terms of character development. How can you develop a character when the film's a 2-hour long chase scene?
