yeah, but if you were handed the two movies wrapped in silver paper and topped off with flowers and whipped cream, and a gun were put to your head, which way would you swing?

I think Brave One will do a lot more box office. It looks gritty enough to pull in a decent opening weekend, and Jodie Foster can still draw a crowd (look at the reasonable success of Panic Room and Flightplan).
Jane, on the other hand, will not draw as large a crowd, but seeing as how it's a period drama chick-flick, I'm betting its User Ratings will be higher, maybe by even a point or more.
So, which one should you pick? Whichever category you are more lacking in.

I saw Becoming Jane and it was a very, very good movie--excellent even...if you like that sort of thing. The IMDBs will probably be good and maybe the PTAs possibly
edit: what Shryke said...

Definitely The Brave One, it should get fairly decent reviews at least, and Jodie Foster's still a somewhat big box-office draw (see Inside Man, Flightplan, Panic Room, Contact etc.) so it should end up with somewhere between $55-$80 million

when becoming jane was released here, it got mediocre reviews and a mediocre box office. It's rating at the moment is 7.1, and it won't change much.
The Brave One is not an exceptional movie, at least by its trailer. But it will have a good performance, and be solid in general. I'd pick The Brave One unless, as Shryke says, you need a boost in PTA. I think The Brave One will be superior in all other categories

Inside man was the first even remotely unique or interesting role in the past decade for Jodie Foster, I am personally sick of seeing her constantly trying to play the broken/scared woman who fights back, I'm pretty sure Ashley Judd has that market covered and does a better job of it. Jodie has way more acting talent than that, which is what keeps people coming to her movies, but I htink this one will be a disappointment.

cool, so i'm hearing a general leaning towards the brave one except that becoming jane will have superior PTA??
fine, let me spice things up a bit....either one of these, or rush hour 3?? coz lately, i've been feeling rush hour's capable of a wee bit more than mase's predictions no??

Rush Hour 3 will do well in its opening weekend. My concern is that its part of a trilogy, and so far, Part 3's have been underperforming in the box office. I think it's a good choice if you're aiming only for box office, and some Top 5 points. I feel t doesn't have lasting appeal, though, and its IMDB score will be the worst of the three, somewhere between 5.5 and 6.3. In terms of the three, I'd choose Brave One as a good all-rounder, Rush Hour 3 as good for Top5 and BO, and Becoming Jane as good for PTA.

I watched the trailer for 'the Brave One' and I've got to tell you, I wasn't impressed. It looks like 'Death Wish' with a switch: 'Death Wish' was interested in this physical gratification of gaining revenge; 'The Brave One' looks like a crime procedural focusing on the psychological -- 'Death Wish' by way of Dostoevsky let's say.
The advance theatre counts seemed to suggest that 'Becoming Jane' could look forward to one week of limited release before a very aggressive ramp up into wide release. Kind of defeats the purpose of a platform release -- and the value of a film like this for Moguls purposes -- for a little art film like this. I've got a sneak peek ticket for next week before the wide release though so next Wednesday will be my chance to really judge. My biggest knock on the film though is the Moguls pricing -- you can find two at half the price which will score the PTA you're looking for.
I saw 'Oceans 13' on its opening weekend and with it the trailer for 'Rush Hour 3.' I picked it for every slate in every league I'm in (except for 'Fantasy Bankrupts'!) based on the reaction of THAT audience. People were howling in the aisles and subsequent trailers have only strengthened my opinion. Warner Bros, by the way, has spent a small fortune marketing the film -- a great sign of confidence that I will take at face value! I think it can linger in the Top 5 for up to 3 weeks, give great Box office value and maybe steal some PTA opening weekend. Don't kid yourself about the iMDb but if you're dropping one of the other two films than surely you can find something cheap to try and negate and iMDb damage 'RH3' might do. My two cents!

Panic room was good. Flightplan majorly sucked. Both pulled in decent money. Incredibly sad. The brave one looks okay. Call me crazy(tee hee) but I'm not really a big fan of Jodie Foster or Terrance Howard. Both have their good days but all in all they're just not real high on my fav actors actresses list.
On second thought. Neither is Anne Hathaway.
Makes this a really hard decision.
I Know! I pick The brave one. On the simple fact that it looks like it has more violence and Jodie shoots somebody on a train and gets away with it in the trailer.

nice!! thanks guys, i think i'm going with rush hour 3 - a_roode, mostly based on your 2 cents so don't be surprised to receive a package of dung if the tucker-chan train derails on this one....
haha, i kid. but i'm of the same opinion as a_roode and crazy - that the brave one looks boring and should struggle a bit, becoming jane will reap in PTA, but isn't really worth it, while RH3 should end up with a great balance....
