I've seen this before Donte, why would you bring your kid to the cinema if they are not old enough to enjoy it. Completely pointless, get a babysitter if you wanna see a movie.

And I don't even think a scallie is a term used in the majority of the UK, Donte. I think its just a northern thing. Most southerners I hear say chavs. Dunno where that comes from...

screw that.

So if I wanted the full experience I would have pay $35 for the ticket and then who knows how much for food and beverages? Considering its "Upscale" I am guessing $20+ for food and another $20+ for a drink? so $75 for dinner and a movie. Also if I want to eat somewhere nice, I would want to be able to enjoy the food and the company- otherwise whats the point.

My favorite local theatre (about 10 min from my home max) offers great food ranging from pizza to steaks and local beer and a decent wine selection at reasonable prices and my tickets costs me $6.25. So it comes down to how much would I pay to have a kind of "private screening" effect. Certainly not $28.75. In fact I am not sure I would even want that, sure it can be fun to see a movie in an empty theatre every once in a while, but I enjoy watching movies with a good crowd. Its fun to see others reactions and to see a big group of people who have left reality at the door and can have a collective good experience. Granted one obnoxious person can ruin it, but still, I'll take the chance. I don't know maybe its just me, but I don't see a reason in paying that much so that you can feel fancy and alone at a movie.

My annoying story during a movie was at the opening night of The Blair Witch Project. About halfway through the movie a baby starts crying. And by crying I mean screaming bloody murder. The kid couldn't have been more than 4-6 months old. I took this for about 2 minutes, stood up, turned around to face the wailing infant and SCREAMED (swipe to see the stream of profanity which I covered to protect the virginal ears here)

"Would you shut that fucking kid up you inconsiderate cunt! We are watching a horror movie and you bring a fucking infant! Are you fucking retarded?!?!"

About 30 seconds later she left the theater with the kid. Needless to say I received some clapping and "yeahs" as well as a few "what an assholes". But I felt much better and we got to watch the rest of the movie in relative quiet.

You did well, dude, you said the kind of thing I'd love to say but never would. I went to see Nightwatch and some woman brought in an infant kid, who kept crying at any dark moment. I mean, how selfish can those parents get? Not only are they interfering with everyone else's enjoyment, they're bringing their kid to something they really shouldn't. Some people should never be allowed to give birth.

$35 is too much for a cinema experience. It's the price of a DVD. Just sit real close to your TV, pretend your partner is your "waiter", and the experience is just as good!

Aly you need to realize your theatre is in the vast minority.. I've never seen a theater that offered anything more food-like than hot dogs and nachos...

Trust me, I appreciate and adore my little theatre, but I did think it necessary to point out that a theatre can be cool, have nice food and beverages, and extra leg room without costing a boatload of cash.... And maybe I just like to brag about how cool it is - I am a jerk that way.

Where the hell do you buy dvd's? I would never spend more than 20 bucks on a DVD, and that is pushing it. Like it has to be a movie I absolutely need to run out and buy as soon as it comes out. Normaly I wait till they are in the 10-15 dollar range. $35 for a dvd is ridiculous. I probably wouldn't pay that much for a television series.

Well you guys in the US must get everything cheap! If I wanted to go to the cinema and have a regular drink and popcorn, it would cost me minimum $25. If I wanted a brand new dvd, minimum $30. If I wanted a tv series, such as Heroes - that cost me $60 - and I got that cheap, its up at $75 in many stores. This is probably one of the reasons that I don't scare away from the cost of a luxury cinema every once in a while. The price hike isn't too much more than what I pay currently.

well $30, $35 is the price of a Blu-ray dvd. I paid $50 for my Heroes. I could of got a $10 dollar rebate with it but i lost the reciept, but I think it was totally worth it though.

Yeah, because it costs so much Heroes is doing the rounds. Such a great dvd though. In fact I want it back. I get really agitated when I let dvds out of the house though, i always think they will come back in a real mess. I think its down to my brother, who a few years ago borrowed my Memento dvd. I waited for ages to get it back, and eventually when I went round to his house found that he had been using the disc as a coaster!!! Needless to say Im very wary about lending out discs.

Haha yea, I'm the only one who collects dvds in my family so mine get borrowed a lot. After a couple of lost dvds, i started 'renting' 'em out to less reliable borrowers. A couple of times i've even made a profit on the dvd.
