ok, so this isn't anyone's recent memory but my own, but still:

I just saw Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves for the first time.

One of my top 10 favorite movie as a kid (from 4th to 8th grade) was the Three Musketeers (1993 version - which came out the beginning of my 4th grade year) which I was told was quite similar, also I love Christian Slater and Morgan Freeman and I LOVE Alan Rickman, but I just really really couldn't get into this Robin Hood movie. I liked the story and most of the cast and the crew (mostly the same from three musketeers) and yet I just couldn't get into it and just didn't enjoy it. Very disappointing and sad. I blame Costner.

i guess that movie is better remembered than relived... but i guarantee anyone who was young and saw that in the theater has nostalgia for it.. watching it for the first time ever, grown up in 2008, would probably be somehow comparable to watching Labyrinth for the first time ever and TOTALLY not understanding why 80s kids loved it so much..

however, for the record, it is a far better movie than three musketeers...

Dear cRaZy,

Please don't put "28 Days Later..." in the same conversation as "Hostel 2"...ever. "28 Days Later..." like you said had the acting (for a horror film) finding unknown actors that have made it big since (Naomie Harris & Cillian Murphy, along with Brendan Gleeson/Christopher Eccleston). It had the visuals (barren London?!?!), a gimmick (shot on miniDV) and it had the basic elements of horror with some crazy sounds and "fast motion" to emphasize the speed of the zombies. It even has the sounds of the wonderful Brian Eno for crying out loud!!!

And the wonderfil Godspeed You Black Emperor breaking their no-film rule by giving a song to the soundtrack (When Cillian enters the church)

I'm willing to let a bunch of those go. Especially Jackos list which many movies I thought were pretty dam good.

I still don't agree with frisky. I didn't like 28 days. Later. Thought it was boring. And I would rather buy Hostel 2 and rewatch over and over again than ever see either of the 28 days later movies. I think we can leave it at that.

But Live Free Die Hard. I can not let go unchallenged. Having not seen the first three all the way through I wasn't entirely sure what I was going to get. But I saw a trailer. Kick frickin A$$. I looked up the cast. Bruce Willis. Justin Long. Timothy Olyphant. and Kevin Frickin smith. Not to mention various other nice small name additions. Maggie Q. Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Anyways. Being a huge fan of all of the above. Besides Q who I haven't really seen much of. I was eagerly anticipating the arrival of this movie to my theater. Almost more than Transformers.
Time came to watch it. And I was probably more excited for this movie than I have been for any other in quite some time. And it met all my expectations. Bruce Willis is still a BA and pretty dam funny considering the circumstances. Love that action humor of his. Justin Long. Puny. But it added greatly to his character which was almost perfectly acted alongside Willis for a frickin awesome team. Olyphant just made one hell of a frickin bad guy. Amazing. Can't put it any simpler than that. Kevin smith. If you could call his role anything more than a well played cameo he did a dam good job. In pure Kevin Smith fashion. And somehow Winstead pulled off daughter of McClain dam near perfect.
It had action. Humor. Drama. A great storyline. Great cast. Dam good directing. And dam good acting. So wheres the beef with this movie. Cause if your a fan of any of the actors above or even the slightest bit of an action junkie. I really can't possibly see how you were dissapointed by this film. Cause I rewatched it last night making it my fourth time and haven't even begun to tire from it.

p.s. To tell truth. Both Live Free and Transformers were great movies. But if we're judging by disappiontment scale. Live Free was much better. I loved Transformers. Loved the show. But the movie just didn't have enough Starscream to satisfy my entire satisfaction meter.

I will have to go with Spider-Man 3 for my first pick. I loved the first two and even though I own it it is one of the most disappointing comic movies ever. It wasn't quite as bad as Fantastic Four but I was expecting more from it and that makes it worse. I was a huge fan of picking Tobey Maquire for Peter Parker when people were hating the idea and I was right about that part. But then they did part,it was just d that is not good enough.

"I know Venom, and you sir are no Venom!"

Next pick would be an odd pick kind of. 300. I loved the movie and we don't need to rehash the arguements about its merits. My gripe is that I watched it at the theater and then bought it and watched it at home. That is where the disappointment came from. So much better on the big screen with super loud theater sound than at home on a wimpy tv. Even on a good system it would not be as cool as a 40 foot screen.

The same can be said of a lot of movies though. Sunshine was so much more powerful on the big screen, but I would still not class it as a disappointment when transferred to tv, and the same can be said about 300.

Dearest cRaZy,

I can understand your dislike with "28 Days Later(s)", but then when you said you'd rather watch "Hostel 2" (over and over...), then I got my answer. "Hostel 2" is a terrible impersonation of the first one in which the main characters are simply replaced with (ugly) members of the opposite sex and the same plot is set into motion, almost like (dir.) Roth thought the audience were the main characters (not having seen the first film) or he just bumped his head on the set of a crappy Tarantino film and forgot he'd made "Hostel" in the first place. Both would be sufficient excuses.

"28 Days Later" is very different from "28 Weeks Later" and shouldn't even be compared. But, to each his own. I like a story that if not "original" at least says something "original" or even has an "original" perspective. "28 Days Later..." I think does that. I can the word "original" paired with "Hostel 2" like I see "Eli Roth" be described as a "filmmaker".

Yeah, just think of the maount of zombie movies which have come out since which have utilised 28 Days' running zombies. That was so original and made the undead scary again. Now they can catch you!!

Yeah what he said. Even George Romero thought that the running zombies was a great idea.

Loved 28 Days Later. Have not seen 28 Weeks yet.

It is a must see Donte! One of my favourite films from last year and exceeds the original. Intense, Classy, and intelligent horror. Definite two thumbs up. Doesn't rely on 'cat jumping out of fridge' scares either ... although the first scare basically is. A film that understands building tension is far more effective than copping out with gore.

Can't agree with you there, Im afraid. Now I know that the two films are completely different, and so comparing the two is hard, but I just cannot see how 28 Weeks is better than 28 Days. I suppose its much in the same way that it is impossible to compare Alien to Aliens, but I suppose I prefer the atmosphere of the first film to the second. 28 Days Later was, to me Danny Boyle's greatest film, and what he captured with that film was immense. The tension and isolation were built upon throughout the film, generating a climax like no other. I felt the acting was severely better in 28 Days also, and that it benefitted from having Boyle at the helm. 28 Weeks took a lot of the elements from the first film, and although I thought it was a very good film (and made it into my top 10 of 2007 as some of you may have previously noted), it just did not have what made 28 Days so special. It removed the isolation. The scene in 28 Days when Cillian Murphy first leaves the hospital and wanders the streets of London is haunting, and no film will ever be able to recapture that feeling in the same way. And the music is much better also, making the film a much more atmospheric experience than 28 Weeks. 28 Weeks works well as a successful action horror picture (much like Aliens), but the original will always be the best in my book, taking the zombie idea and completely turning it on its head, and creating an atmospheric and haunting horror film, not the usual gore flick. 28 Weeks just imititated perfection, and was not able to recreate the essence of the first film. It was good, just not good enough.
