twist movies always have very interesting trailers.
it's the payoff that counts.
well, i did swipe to read, and that second twist sounds ridiculous really.
to be honest, i'm quite disappointed, i knew it was something about nature, but you know what? mother nature sucks, i was hoping the twist would have to do something with aliens because aliens rule.

Unfortunately, the more and more relevant he tries to make things, the more serious the message, the worse the movie.

Why is there still hype around this guy and his films. I mean, he hasnt had a critically acclaimed film since the Sixth Sense, just about everything since has been panned, and yet we still have expectations when he brings another movie out. Maybe if we all lowered our expectations of him, we would appreciate his films a bit more. I enjoyed Unbreakable, and thought The Village was watchable, but every time I hear he has a new film out, I expect it to be laughed at before I even know anything about it. Give the guy a chance. Just lower your expectations and go in with an open mind. Maybe we wont be so dissaponted by him then.

Some responses / comments:
ashkul:
...[S]sure The Village was disappointing, but there is always hope....nein??
Ja vol, mein freund.
Personally, I think The Village is Shyamalan's most well-crafted and mature (as a filmmaker) work; however, Unbreakable is my personal favorite of his.
Luby:

Yeah... [swipe] and as it was outlined in the script, it's also a total and complete plagiarism from Tony Daniel's novella Earthling, which featured -- also, coincidentally, as its climax -- Man's encounter with the REAL masters of this planet, hyperintelligent continental plates calling themselves "terranes."
...[T]o be honest, i'm quite disappointed, i knew it was something about nature, but you know what? [SPOILER... swipe] mother nature sucks, i was hoping the twist would have to do something with aliens because aliens rule.
It's actually not a premise that's ENTIRELY without merit... But when the script contains scene after scene of [swiperino] people running away from AIR, holding their breaths so as not to inhale that one fatal mixture of nonsensical scents that will cause them to kill themselves and / or everyone around them... And, later, when the actors are asked to THINK LOVING THOUGHTS in order to convey their harmless intentions and innocuousness toward the planet and all who inhabit it to an apparently sentient Gaia... Good friggin' grief.
It's not just a disaster movie... It's a disaster.

Well said.
Herald:

After this mess, I'm afraid there no longer will be.
...[W]e still have expectations when he brings another movie out.
That's because he's got mad skills, and no matter how big a piece of crap he comes out with, we still have hope that it'll all come together into a cohesive and enjoyable whole. We're still rooting for this guy, no matter how much he disappoints us. We want him to succeed.
...Maybe if we all lowered our expectations of him, we would appreciate his films a bit more.
That is an extremely valid point, Herald.

The secret to happiness is being content with sufficiently lowered expectations. --Me.
I remain, as always...

Mine too.

I try to ensure that I make at least one point a day valid. That is mine. You're getting no more from me today, and you'll be lucky to get another one tomorrow.
