Crazy:
I really don't know if your recent post was a reply to my earlier post. If it is, then, let me say that I really don't know how smart you have to be to appreciate the cinematic chemistry of said couples: Hanks/Ryan, Roberts/Gere, Tracy/Hepburn and Bogart/Bacall. I'm naming the last 2 because of their influence, showing just how silly it could be to think of the box-office potential of "Fool's Gold" based on that pairing (McConaughey/Hudson).
As for the director, I'm looking at "Fool's Gold" from an analytical perspective, that's it. By stating that Donald Petrie is not the director of "Fool's Gold" (Andy Tennant is), I'm presuming you know about the success of the formulaic system, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". In this case, not having Petrie direct McConaughey/Hudson is a risk, when studio execs are hoping to capitalize on the pairing from "How to Lose..."
I have more faith in the African-American audience than in Martin Lawrence. Sure, he might have been in "Wild Hogs", but he wasn't the reason for the good numbers, partially maybe. The black audience made "First Sunday" a film to be reckoned with. With very few coming out in the next couple of months (i.e. "Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns"), "Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins" will surprise a few people.

I feel like I am at a bit of a disadvantage in knowing which movies are being advertised. I do not watch television (I have no cable/satellite nor network tv) so I only hear about movies from online movie sites. I am glad lots of you tell me about hype. :)

I did finally see a trailer for Jumper while watching the superbowl at a sportsbar. I could not hear anything but I saw it. It looks cool and if the audio is as cool then it should do well. They didn't remove Samuel L's voice did they??? LOL

Sorry Ashkul, you are a prodigy and hence are above the normal rules. I read about your recent win so congrats. I kind of stink at this so I need all the help I can get. LOL

Well I watched Fools Gold last night. Gotta say. It's about as good if not better than How To Lose a Guy in 10 days. Had me laughing for a good part of it. And Donald Sutherland was a most exquisit addtition to the cast. It should definately do good BO wise Especially over VD.(Valentines Day).
I'll be watching Ole Roscoe tonight. Jenkins. Not that guy from Dukes. It should be pretty funny.
It's gonna be an interesting weekend thats for sure.
Frisky. I don't mean to continue arguing. But I'm just saying the old date movies of that nature aren't that appealing to me. I would much rather go see a Chick Flick that'll make me LOL than some lame upperclass romance drama. But thats just me.

That's surprising. Fool's Gold has a 10% on RT, and a 4.3 on IMDb, compared to How To Lose a Guy in 10 days which has a 42% and a 6.1 respectively. Wait. This is cRAzY we're talking about. The surprise is gone.
On another note, Definitely, Maybe has a 100% on RT (as of Friday night). Definitely be an interesting weekend.

I think Fools Gold will struggle to make the top 3 now, will probably make another 13 million next weekend, which should be easily beaten by Jumper and Spiderwick, have to see with Definitely Maybe, but Roscoe Jenkins has flopped and will really struggle next weekend to stay in the top 5.

I think I have been too hard on Spiderwick. It's the first family oriented film. Now that doesn't mean it'll be the best but it will at least have a wide open audience till College Road Trip and Horton! It will probably be in the top 3 next week.

I think spiderwick will be massive. I think it has a lot more potential than Terebithia, which had a good box office last year, and it is a very successful children's book. It will be THE film that every pre-teen will want to go see with their parents next weekend. I think it will be tight between that and Jumper, but I think Jumper has had the marketing to get the top spot.
