Being Canadian I'm a little biased, and yeah, I also love Racheal Macadams... I see Ryan as being a young Robert Deniro. I don't think he'll ever be the star of a gazillion dollar action flick, but I can see us still posting messages 30 years from now, "Yeah, his new stuff is okay, but you should see him in Half Nelson".

Ryan Gosling for most of already stated posts really shows his acting chops with every performance.I have yet to see his Oscar nominated "Half Nelson" but heard nothing but great buzz."The Notebook" goes down as one of the best love stories in years.I know chick flick but so well done( My wife will be pleased with this post-LOL).Even Rachel Wood grabed me by the testies with "13" ,and so far hasn't let go so the speak.Great presence for such a young actress.Amanda Bynes is a fantastic comedienne in search of the breakthrough script with the right part for her.Shia is the current golden boy star on the raise.
In about 5 years when someone does this list Dakota Fanning will be at or near the top of that list.If she plays it right she might be the next Drew Barrymore type.If she can take it to next level.AKA adult roles cause she already kicks butt as about the best child actress going.Late

Dane Cook was great in waiting. Its just too bad he didn't have a very big role.
Racheal Mcadams is also one of my favs. Shes showed many sides of her acting talent in the past few years and I think she could be the next big female star of our time if she plays her cards right.

I still think Keira Knightley is the best one here. Her films have a higher box office average then anyone else. She has been in one of the biggest franchises in movie history, earned an oscar nomination, and carried hit movies almost entirely on her name alone. In fact every movie she has done has been a hit except for Domino and the Jacket.

How about Joseph Gordon-Levitt? He was great in The Lookout and Brick. I'm even willing to forget he was part of maybe the worst sitcom ever...

I'd have to say Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
He's already has a few heavyweight roles under his belt e.g. Mysterious Skin and Brick.
I reckon he could do a Johhny Depp and do critically acclaimed quirky/heavy roles and become a major box office draw card in the future.

I really liked domino. It didn't make much money. But kiera did a really well performance. Has anyone seen the lookout. I plan on renting it but there are a few others I'd like to see also and don't like to be disappointed.

I don't know how old is too old to be a 'young star', but Rachel McAdams has probably shown the some of the most acting range and diversity in her career. From comedy to romance to thriller, and all played efficiently.

And, for whatever it is worth, she is absolutely luscious in some of the scenes of 'The Notebook'.

Where is Michael Cera? The silent threat of SUPERBAD. He is hillarious. Everyone should check out his internet show clarkandmichael.com.

Shia LaBeouf? Most people haven't even seen him in his best acting performance - "A Guide to Recognizing Angels" opposite Channing Tatum ("Step Up"). Guys, you were actually paying attention in "Transformers"? I don't know how anyone can really consider LaBeouf except for his selection of talent agents getting him parts in "Transformers" & "Disturbia". He'll be in next summer's "Indiana Jones 4", so he'll be even larger next year than now, but does that mean most promising?

I've always known that you can judge tomorrow by today. Well, how many of these actors have any Oscar nominations? Ryan Gosling has one. Anyone else? Nope.

Gosling has shown more poise and intelligence in his roles than anyone. From bit roles in "Remember the Titans" to starring roles in "The Notebook", "The Believer", "Half Nelson" and "Fracture". The man knows more than anyone else what he's doing.

Also on the list should be Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He's becoming an indie god and now he's working his way in important films from Scott Frank ("The Lookout") and John Madden ("Killshot").

Notable mentions: Keira Knightley, Rachel McAdams

Acting in one so-so movie with a few funny lines does not make Michael Cera a promising star.

i agree with you about laboeuf friskytiger....however, that being said, you don't need an oscar nomination to be promising....take evan rachel wood for example - 5 movies in sundance in the past 8 years?? that's an amazing record to have....and the point of being promising is kind of that you will one day (not at present) have several nominations and possibly oscars under your belt....

also, you missed the fact that keira knightley also has a nomination to her name....and i should point out that a few names up here are comedians, who never get any oscar nods....

i definitely agree about gosling though, if there's a star on the rise in hollywood, it'll have to be this man....brilliant choice of roles, and beautiful work with the roles he does choose....

lastly, i maintain (seemingly stubbornly) that lindsay lohan is a talented actress and needs to broaden her spectrum of roles and narrow the spectrum of drugs flooding her blood, and possibly one day she'll be another drew barrymore, maybe better....

I don't think you can judge how good an actor someone is by how many retarted awards they have. They only give those awards to dramatic roles anyways. You really think shia gives two shakes of some lambs crap about some golden oscar dealie when he could be swimming in all the money he made with transformers, disturbia, and lets not forget holes. Some people act for trophies. Others. Would rather have a but load of money and fame. Not too mention he got to play in transformers. That should be a reward in it of itself. Cause that movie was awesome.
Gosling is okay but I haven't seen much diversity from him. McAdams is more of a mention. She had one hell of a year last year. I think she picked a good script for each genre and hit the jackpot on all of them. Maybe she and Shia should get together and do a movie.
