What films would one start with to get into Indian film? I have no idea where I would start and have always been curious to watch Indian film.

I have seen Monsoon Wedding and liked it. I also seen Bride and Prejudice and maybe a few others.

Yes, they are hilarious, whether intentional or not. I don't think I've ever watched a depressing Indian film.

I saw a Bollywood attempt at the Horror genre. Ohhhh...people started mysteriously becoming...

wait for it...

yes, I kid you not they did become....

APPLES!!!

Yes, the horror was that people became apples. This one lady's husband became an apple and she found him under the sheets one morning--I think they were going for the Godfather horses head moment with that one. I spit out my soda I laughed so hard...no joke.

It was meant to be serious. Why can't Hollywood come up with stuff like this?

Well it happens I'm a big fan of Bollywood cinema ! No Kidding !

The first time I saw a bollywood movie, I think it was the biggest cultural shock I've ever felt in a movie theater. I wasn't prepared for it, and during the first hour (out of 3), I was totally shocked and didn't know how to react. And during the 2 other hours the movie lasted, I had a blast.

Now every time a Bollywood movie is released in Paris, I make sure to see it. Unfortunatly, it's not like in the UK, where Bollywood movies are more popular and more numerous.
In France, they are released on 10 or 15 screens, and we only get to have 2 or 3 a year at best.

Monsoon Wedding and Bride and Prejudice aren't Bollywood movies Jamey, so I think you still have to see your first Bollywood "extravaganza".
What movies could I recommend you ? Only those who've been released in France...

My personnal favourite is "Veer Zaara". A sort of indian "Romeo and Juliet", spreading from the 80's til today, and starring the best of Bollywood actors and actresses : Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukherjee, Amitabh Bachchan...
I also recommend "Lagaan", a 3 hour cricket game in 19th century India. It was this one that I started with a few years ago. And "Devdas", the 1st Bollywood movie ever presented in Cannes Film Festival.
