I have a feeling Steve Carell was forced to do this movie. He probably has some sort of deal with Universal and this movie included it.

He was Bruce's enemy in Bruce Almighty so he's the next one in line to be God, people would be confused if Evan Baxter was actually Jimmy Fallon instead of Steve Carell [although Jimmy Fallon rules]

I'm sure Steve Carrell had a lot of fun making it.

Which two of you did I place a bet with that Evan wouldn't make 200 million domestic? I think it was you, Shryke, wasn't it? And who else? Come on, own up!

I didn't want to bring it up, didn't want to throw up the 'i told you so' just yet. Shryke has been noticeably absent from this thread.
Almost bumped the 'summer bombs' thread on Sat, but I thought that would be kind of an evil thing to do...

I meant more of the lines of him having being forced by a contract. (being that The Office is part of NBCUniversal). And 40YOV was also a Universal release.
Not being forced like having to eat your peas and carrots.
He probably did have a lot of fun.

Yes, it was me. And it would appear that I was big-time wrong about Evan Almighty. Oh, well.
Looks like kid and #6 win the bet. I promise I will acknowledge my defeat in a forthcoming column.
I did end up seeing Evan today, and I actually enjoyed it very much, and not just because I've been backing it all this time... I thought it was very funny, Steve Carell was awesome.
As for the bloated budget... well, the CGI animals looked quite good, but the CGI flood? Not so much.
It will probably not finish the year in my Top 10 of 2007, but it'll probably make my Top 20. I really enjoyed it, for all of its faults.
Congrats on your "victory", guys. Before I sheepishly duck out the side door, I'll just remind you that no one can be right all the time... it's why I gave up on betting on horses. (Grin.)
I like to think that my percentage is still pretty good, though.

Oh damn it, okay it was me.
I was that other that believed Evan had a shot at $200M. I'm too much of a Steve Carrell fan.
Damn you Christians you made such a mediocre film.

Thank you for your kind words.
I have to admit tho, I am fairly shocked to see how poorly it is being received. I mean the fact that it might not even break $100 mil is astonishing.
I figured at least $120.

Well, it seems I have EA in four of my five current leagues. Ouch.
Two, I'm not going to worry about it, because I wasn't going to win those leagues anyway. One, it will definitely hurt, and the fourth, I've still got Harry Potter coming up in. So I remain hopeful.
At least EA got a few Top 5 and PTA points, and its UR is 6.9, which isn't life-ending.

True, and EA didn't cost a crapload of money too.

I just saw Evan Almighty yesterday and it was better then i expected, Steve Carell and Jona Hill were without a doubt the best actors in the movie, the only things that made the movie the biggest bomb of 2007 was the constant cheesy jokes from Wanda Sykes and the PG rating [7/10]. I walked into Knocked Up after finishing EA and watched a much more enjoyable movie. Unlike the jokes in EA, the jokes in Knocked Up lasted longer and made you laugh harder. Jonah Hill also had a great performance in Knocked Up...There were more than just two good actors in Knocked Up also, it seems like every actor/actress was ment to play that part. Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl both had stellar performances. [9.5/10]
