All I have to say that the TDK has no huge competition, like Shryke pointed out in his column. This this is going to dominate. After a normal 50% drop that happens after HUGE openings, it's going to level out and coast to victory the rest of the summer. The only other film with this much of a clear shot to dominate is Harry Potter later this year, which could win 3 weekends in row as well.

No joke: I went to see Sex And The City, and there was a mother with her newborn there.

I think that TDK will have a high repeatability value. I love that TDK isn't just a popcorn movie, and is repeatable for a different reason.

For me Dark Knight isn't even about this game. I hope it does well in all the categories and I think it will. But I want to see this movie because I love movies and superheroes and Batman and Bale, and Ledger, and Nolan, and Oldman, and Joker, and Bat toys, and Maggie, and Frank Miller and well you get the idea...

If TDK breaks all these records and gets lots of points it will be great but I know the movie will be in my Top 10 instantly.

Despite however much money it makes The Dark Knight is going to be the greatest movie event of all time, and that is a fact. Write it down now.

I dunno if I would say "of all time" maybe of our lifetimes, but not all time. personally I have to agree, with only that caveat. I mean the marketing alone is amazing. Wall-E had brilliant marketing and TDK is already exponentially better. Heck, the trailer has played in front of *every* movie I have gone to see this summer, and many in spring as well.
Anyone who has electricity is fully primed for this movie, even though we've all seen the trailers a dozen times, every time one comes on we all go "OOooh Batman" aloud and get excited.

No, ash. Sometimes we do get movies the same day, as with Iron Man etc, but its never certain that we get the same release dates. I hope we do with this one though.

I've got tickets to a media screening on the 14th, so bwahaha. It's on an UltraScreen, too -- and I think it's on one of the brand new Sony 4K digital projectors that are testing now and won't be fully rolled out 'til 2009. Of course, I'll still watch it (and get paid to do so!) on the 16th too.

"We are beneath the wheels of the juggernaut."

Going to be a lot of films saying that over the next two months. I pessimistically (hardy har har) had 'The Dark Knight' with 18 Top 5 points. My revisions are for more than 20 now. I like the challenge of trying to beat 'The Dark Knight' through different combinations, but a slate with 'The Dark Knight' is going to be tough to beat!

The Dark Knight wont beat Spiderman or even Pirates because the marketplace is way to crowded for that.
When SM3 opened its nearest competition was Disturbia with 5.8mill and Fracture with only 3.7mill. The box office was dead...and the Dark Knight is entering a red hot box office. The entire summer only 3 movies (The Love Guru, Speed Racer, and Kit Kiddrige) have been out right bombs, everything else has found an audience. Meaning that Hancock, Wall-E, and Wanted will each be pulling in more business than Disturbia did. It will also have to contend with the 2nd Wkends of Hellboy 2, Meet Dave, and Journey 3d which are all tracking well. And if that were not enough it also has to open against Mamma
Mia which is sure to drag away plenty of females. With all these factors working against it I just do not see it challenging Spiderman3.

POTC 2 would be a better model since it opened in a similarily strong box office on a closer release date. That film however had stronger buzz...the whole concept had not grown old yet and it was more suitable for kids, the first pirates was also a much bigger hit than batman. So yes Batman will be better in quality but it will not unseat those 2.

I think it should open with about 127mill. If Hellboy opens with over 35mill that number will be about will be lower with around 119mill. However, if Hellboy dissapoints then it may rival pirates with 133-139mill but that is the ceiling.

I think the Mummy, The Pinneapple Express, and the X-files 2 would be better in ultimate because it is close in cost and has better potential. The Mummy has the potential to top Bournes opening weekend. The Mummy Returns opening would amount to over 85mill at todays prices and a final gross of over 250mill. So do not underestimate the fan base for this one. If the Mummy 3 can manage 175-200, Pinneaple Express gets 110-130, and the X files hits 50-75...that is a potential earning of over 400mill.
