Its no secret that 2007, more than anything has been the year of sequels. The Pirates, Spidey, Shrek, Bourne, and Potter sequals were kind of inevitable and even understandable, but did we really need Evan Almighty? Im seriously expecting the release of Rocky 12: Rocky vrs Barbara Bush.

Lets try and be a little creative and pick something other than Daddy Day Camp....

Hmm these ones were all very unnecessary so it's hard to choose:

Hostel Part 2
The Hills Have Eyes 2
Hannibal Rising
28 Weeks Later
Epic Movie
TMNT
Evan Almighty
Daddy Day Camp
Rush Hour 3
Saw IV
Oceans 13

But out of all of those, probably the worst choice, the most unnecessary, would be Saw 4. People are pretty tired of the Saw series at this point, and they're even more tired of R-Rated torture porn (see the B.O. of Hostel 2, Captivity, Hills Have Eyes 2 etc.), so it's also not that great of a business decision for LionsGate, since they probably spent $30-40 million on it. And, on top of that, we didn't even need a Saw 2 or Saw 3, so a 4th one? Let it be the last

Daddy Day Camp, for me. I can't stand any sequel that tries to continue the "franchise" without the original star. Can you say Dumb and Dumber-er, or Son of the Mask?

Shrek the Third was really crappy.

But unnecessary, it's gotta be Hannibal Rising. It was also an unbelievably crappy film.

Wow, where to begin...

First off, I started to differentiate in my brain between sequels and continuations. For example, if a movie is based on a literary work or series of books, than I wouldn't consider it a plain-vanilla sequel per se.
Harry Potter, Bourne and Hannibal Rising fit into this category.

I would also discount: Halloween (remake, not sequel), TMNT (return to the roots of the original comic, not sequel), and Epic Movie (spoof, not sequel). Even though Epic Movie will be my worst movie of the year.

As long as a franchise is making money, sequels are to be expected (even if they are unnecessary)... FF2, Spidey 3, Shrek 3, Ocean's 13, Saw 4 and POTC 3 certainly fit into this category.

If something is a success and has room for a sequel, once again, you have to expect a Part 2. They, too, may not be necessary, but they are not unexpected: Hostel 2, Hills Have Eyes 2, 28 Weeks Later, AVP 2, Evan and Treasure 2 fit here. A third installment of any of these, however, would be most unwelcome.

The most unnecessary, though? Waiting more than five years before deciding to do one. Sorry, Bruce, Die Hard 4, though enjoyable, was not necessary, and neither is Rush Hour 3. For that matter, the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop IV and Indiana Jones IV are not necessary either. That doesn't mean I won't enjoy them (DH4 was good), though.

But the winner for most unnecessary? Daddy Day Camp. Agreed, if you feel obligated to capitalize on the success of a comedy (which I still think was a fluke), at least bring the original star back! If not, forget it! What's next, Daddy Day of the Dead?

Sequels are a part of our lives. Almost all of them, when you think about it, aren't really necessary, but that's not really the point, is it?

I did realize that TNMT and Epic Movie were not actualy sequels...but they are franchise films. TNMT was meant to reboot the franchise and i would consider Epic Movie to be kind of a sequel to Date Movie.

I think that POTC 3, Spiderman 3, Harry Potter, and Bourne are the only sequels that had any business being made at all. We always knew how long Harry Potter was going to last, POTC and Spiderman were trilogies that deserved closure and will hopefully stay closed. And as Shryke said Bourne is a book series, plus they are good!

Shrek was completly pointless they jst should have spent more time to make it a better film.

The other sequels didnt even have succesful movies to follow. Did anyone really want The Hills Have Eyes 2, or Resident Evil 3? And im still a little confused on the whole Elizabeth sequal. The only sequel that has any business being made is Sin City 2!

I happen to like the torture porn. And the more I read about saw 4 the more Im a liken it. Daddy day camp is definately the top most uneeded movie of the year. Halloween while everyone says it looks good. Definately did not need to be made either. Hostel should've been made....Better along with spidey and the hills have eyes two.

I would have to say its a tie between Daddy Day Camp and Are We Done Yet?
Did anyone even see Are We There Yet? I'm pretty sure the original was pretty unneccessary, much less a sequel. At least the "horror" sequels are there to keep you guessing just when you think the bad guy was taken care of in the last movie, Daddy Day Camp and Are We Done Yet? are just there to further explore the "crazy hijinks" of a grown man who is incapable of managing a few kids.

DDC, no one likes the movies and they look like they're gonna keep making them. This one looks the worst with Cuba Gooding JR.

i really like how so many sequals have tried to avoid numbers in the title. I guess the think it will make us forget it is a sequal

Can't help ya there. Once was enough for those movies. As for are we there yet. It wasn't so bad. Could've had a worthwile sequel. But remaking an old movie that probably didn't do to good in the first place wasn't a smart idea. It was okay if you have nothing better to do. Daddy Day Care. Definately does not need a fricking sequel. Especially without the original characters. That should've been straight to dvd release no effing questions asked.
I'd also like to add. I understand that TMNT has been really growing in popularity lately and hollywood loves to capitalize on junk like that. But the reason its so popular is because its a frickin classic. As I mentioned earlier. Just because millions of frickin people really like a movie or other things of that nature. Does not mean they want to see the shit remade 10 years later. Thats retarted. TMNT should've been left alone.
