Disappointment is relative to exspectation so i dont consider a movie like Delta Farce a disappointment. So here we go
Even Almighty- i dont even need to explain....you all know what happened
A Mighty Heart- Tons of critical praise and a big name star, but only 3.9 million opening weekend. ouch.
Georgia Rule- Tons of media coverage, and big stars. But critically panned with less than 20 million total, but at least it made back its budget Evan.
Hostel 2- Less than half of the originals gross speaks volumes.
Are We Done Yet- 49.4 to the originals 83.1
The Number 23- Even Jim Carrey couldnt carry this horror movie
28 Weeks later- Failed to capitalize on the first films success
Grind House- Only 25 mill for this 67 mill failed expirement by 2 well known directors. Its total gross was the predicted opening weekend.
Perfect Stranger- Solidified Halle Berrys has been status
Vacancy- Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale couldnt carry this hotel horror flick past 20 mill which ended mostly vacant
The Hitcher- Marked the slow death of the horror film
Lucky You- Barely averaged 1000 dollars in its opening weekend against the spidey juggernaut for a not so lucky 2.7 million at 2500 theaters
Oceans 13- Opened a nice amount less than the previous films but in general it was not that big of a disappointment
Spiderman 3- Buggest opener ever but only 15 on the all time charts? Spidey could have used those 8 legs through out the summer.
Shrek 3- Terrible holds by animated standards but it still did ok...but only ok
POTC 3- Pirates showed up late to a crowded market place and failed to meet unrealistic expectations.
Fantastic 4 2- Had a nice opening but the silver sufer has wiped out X-Men 3 style
Nancy Drew- Too kiddy for fans of the popular books but not relevant enough for the kids it advertised to.
Surfs Up- Showed that movies need more than penguins to be a hit. Opened well below expectations, but is displaying some pretty good holds. Just wait till ratatoulie shows up.
Next- Yet another film whose total gross equaled the expected opening weekend. A huge miss for an action movie with this level of star power. 18 million dollars with a 70 million dollar budget. Someone might be looking for their Next job.
Ratatoulie- Fell way short of its projected 60 million opening and might even fail to crack 200 mill. Pixar was pissed when cars opened with 60, jst think what they must feel like now.
Evening- It was supposed to be a hit like the notebook...but instead it was a huge a miss like any other generic tear jerker.
License to Wed- Another failed atempt at counter programing. If Mandy Moore and Robin Williams keep this up they are might need to worry about having their license to act revoked.

Everyone and his uncle is going to be picking Evan Almighty in this poll, and they wouldn't be wrong... but I'm going to go with something else.
Evan is going to be a huge disappointment, but I myself wasn't disappointed with it. So my vote goes to Grind House, which not only flopped majorly for two such hot directors, it wasn't even really that good. When the most interesting things about your stories are the fake trailers that you show in between them, you know something's wrong.
You make a good case for all of them, though, nick.

I picked Grindhouse too, there were huge expectations for this, and they were utterly dashed. No idea why it bombed. Zodiac was another diappointment.

Yeah, I've got to go with 'Grindhouse' too. A horror film on one of the holiest weekends of the year for Christians ... and it wasn't the only one!!! Terrible disappointing results for a film that (well the first half anyway) was great fun and very cool.

I was expecting Number 23 to make much more money. I saw the film and i thought it was pretty decent.

I was stunned that Grindhouse bombed so i voted for that. It was one of favorite films of the year so far. So people really didn't like and i can see why but i was a big fan.

Gotta go with Grindhouse here. This movie had huge expectations, and it failed to deliver, even though it still got great IMDB. I mean COME ON, this movie is #76 on IMDB's to 250. This movie should have done so much better but, alas.

a lot of people were blaming it on the running time

yeah, the running time was an issue, but that alone shouldn't have been insurmountable (how much money did the LOTR's trilogy make?). I think it was a combination of factors, not the least of which being the R rating, and the fact that most moviegoers weren't expecting what Tarantriguez was offering here. Still, it should have done better.

GrindHouse wasnt understood by moviegoers. i talked to some people who were ike it looks bad, but it was supposed to! they didnt understand why they should pay to see a b movie. In the end i didnt see it because nobody wanted to see it with me. That is why it failed. None of the movies they were paying homage to were box office hits so why would it be any different? I think Next and Evan were the worst
