By the end of this week (before the weekend begins) TDK will be easily in the top 10 grossing movies of all time after only 2 weeks.

And it could well hit $400m after the weekend is done. That is amazing.

Last weekend, August 1–3, The Dark Knight was No 1 for the third time in a row! $42,664,219, more than The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, who did: $40,457,770. I think that TDK has a shot for $500-510 M.
Swing Vote did just $6,230,669...
Based on the bad WOM, I think that it will be hard for the Mummy 3 to surpass $130 M...
PINEAPPLE EXPRESS and THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS 2 have been released this Wednesday. I think that the 1st has a shot for $27-28 M on Fri-Sun and 45-46 for Wed-Sun and the 2nd - 14-15, respectively $22-23 M.
What do you think about the Batman? Will kick some asses for the 4th time in a row? I hope so!

It's official! The Dark Knight No.1 for the 4th time in-a-row with $26,117,030!!! Pineapple Express did OK - $23,245,025 in weekend, and $41,318,736 from Wed-Sun. With a budget of just $27 M this is a very profitable investment. It can achieve $80-85 M only in US. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 did $10,678,430 in weekend and $19,620,128 Wed-Sun. It can do 35-45 MM USD, something in the range of $39,053,061 it did the first part.
TDK CAN do $510-520 M . The Mummy 3 will outgross 100 M very hard… Meanwhile Mamma Mia! is the 13th movie of the year that surpass the 100 mark. It can outgross Hairspray ($118,871,849), last year music-hall. It can do even 125-135 M…
Lately I’m not so sure that Indiana Jones 4 will surpass Iron Man, though the difference between these two movies is less than $2 M. Another remarkable thing is that we have right now 3 animated movies in top 10 of the year: Kung Fu Panda, Wall-E and Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! Until he end of the year we’ll have Madagascar 2 to join them! I don’t know if that happened until now.
This week we’ll have Tropic Thunder from Wednsday, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Mirrors and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
Tropic Thunder can surpass TDK at this weekend BO.
My predictions:
Tropic Thunder - $30-35 M (Fri-Sun), $50-60 M (Wed-Sun), $110-120 M in final;
Star Wars: The Clone Wars - 15-20 on OW, 55-60 final total;
Mirrors - 7-10 on OW, 25-30 final total;
Vicky Cristina Barcelona - 2-3 OW, 10-15 final total...

What do you think?

It WILL make at least that. it should easily hit $100 million.
TDK CAN do $510-520 M .
It WILL do at least $510 million or hell will freeze over.
Mamma Mia! is the 13th movie of the year that surpass the 100 mark. It can outgross Hairspray ($118,871,849), last year music-hall.
It WILL surpass Hairspray, maybe even by more than $20 million.
Tropic Thunder can surpass TDK at this weekend BO.
Before I would have said that it WILL surpass TDK for the weekend win, and I still think it will, but that Wednesday number makes me think it could be otherwise.

Did anyone take Tropic Thunder? Or Pineapple Express? I still can't believe Sex and the City outgrossed Narnia this summer. That is shocking. However, I wonder how our lists will stack up once the holidays begin!

You can always see some statistics for the chosen movies on Page 7 who-what-bet

On topic: Just annyonggob888 has bet on Tropic Thunder.
Pineapple Express was chosen by... was chosen by... dum-dum-dum-dum-dum drum beats ZERO moguls! Instead Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince , which was chosen by EVERYBODY here, was pushed back to summer '09! from November 21, 2008 to July 17, 2009. 8 months!!!

So, everybody will be credited with ZERO cash for HP6 this year! After Angels & Demons, and especially Star Trek, this is the strike's last notable victim. Do you think that we can have another surprise like these this year? One of the November or December possible release? JB22 anyone? Just kiddin' ! BUT anything could happen!

For the next year contest we'll look more carefully at November and December releases, isn't it?

Sex and the City was a truly shocker 4 me 2... Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! is a surprise too...

As for our contest, IMHO the favorites so far are: jas_8382, JackO, geezer9687, SuperShaan, numbersix_99, cRAzY and yours truly

I'll come back with more statistics at the beginning of the next month when most of us will have 6, 7 or even 8 movies released... a preliminary top based on totals and averages. So keep close! We'll know then who has the most chances to win and who hasn't anymore...

Are we allowed to replaced the movies that've been pushed back, like HP6 and Star Trek?

(I can't believe I was the only one to pick Mamma Mia! $100+ and still going...)

No, we arent allowed to replace them... the rules are somewhere around here.....

Just to help ya out a bit delfinasu, i thought i would post the top ten so far....

1 The Dark Knight $451,888,386
2 Iron Man $316,653,730
3 Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull $314,848,652
4 Hancock $222,977,356
5 Wall-E $211,834,786
6 Kung Fu Panda $211,577,666
7 Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! $154,482,818
8 Sex and the City $151,868,460
9 The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian $141,092,878
10 The Incredible Hulk $133,970,925

Also we have some other contenders for the top ten mainly HSM 3, Madagascar 2, Quantum of Solace, Australia, Bolt, Four Christmases, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Twilight and Seven Pounds (although some of these are very iffy).

Anybody think that Benjamin Button or the Spirit or any other film has a chance?

10x undeadmonkey! I have everything under control. I've organized every detail and I can provide some estimations (possible Top 10 moguls) based on projected BOs of future releases in matter of seconds. Though, let's wait the beginning of the next month when almost everyone of us will have 7-8 movies already released... We'll know then who can win this competition and who can't anymore...

UDM, what can I add?... I think that Madagascar 2 and JB22 are sure-hits and almost 99% possible presences in Top 10... BUT maybe (I hope so) we'll have some surprises in Top 10 of the year such as: The Day the Earth Stood Still, Twilight, HSM 3 and Bolt. Don't forget that Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince will be released on July 17, 2009!

What about: Bedtime Stories, Seven Pounds, Yes Man, Eagle Eye, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Four Christmases?? The Tale of Despereaux could be also a surprise-hit! I don't know what to say about Burn After Reading, Will Eisner's The Spirit and Body of Lies - good direction, very good cast, interesting screenplays, but they can fail to surpass the 100 mark at BO... Also Beverly Hills Chihuahua or Marley and Me have their chances, because of the absence of HP6... Who knows? Only Time!
