And Spider-Man 3 opened to $59 million yet it opened on a day when kids, teens, and college kids were all in school. It didn't really start making money until late afternoon, but The Dark Knight is playing awesome all throughout the day and so it could get $70 million opening day.

Lets get something straight. I am a Christian. So yeah, I would trust a Christian movie review. And when I found out that The Dark Knight just barely escaped an R-rating, I knew I would have to find out just how violent this movie is to be allowed to see it. And about all that before, the reviewer said that it was because the violence in this movie felt a lot more realistic than in the Saw movies, even though it wasn't nearly as graphic.
I have no issue with your own Christianity, as I too am a Christian. The fact of the matter is that Christian reviewers almost never hit the mark and tend to be much more likely to get carried away by a personal agenda than your average reviewer (then again I don't trust secular reviewers much either, so take it as you will). Ultimately, Its ridiculous to even consider TDK and SAW in the same train of thought as far as I'm concerned. Yes, there are parts that were gruesome - I would say primarily the showing of Twoface's.. face.. is probably the most cringe-worthy in the film. There are bits that make you jump if you are the type to do so, but because they are supposed to, not because its shockingly disgusting. The few things that are truly terrible occur off camera.

After selling out 5 of 6 screens for the midnight screenings, we thought 1 print would be nowhere near enough for the day, but so far we've only barely gone over 100 for the first two shows. I'm thinking this is pretty frontloaded with the midnights, although evening shows will be bigger, for sure.

The theater near me sold out 7 out of 8 midnight showings, and has 4 more showings sold out tonight. That is absolutely HUGE here. Also, we have a showing sold out for Hancock. I don't even know if we had any showings for Hancock sold out on opening day, but I could be wrong.

We sold out 17 theaters at midnight last night. And every IMAX screening is sold out until MONDAY!
I wouldn't be surprised to see this beat Spider-Man 3.

Looks like all of those being "conservative" with their estimates around 130, went too low. Its also currently #3 on the IMDB top 250. This movie is a juggernaut.

When you look at the numbers The Dark Knight is technically the #1 movie on IMDB. Only the "rated" votes count which ties it with 9.1 but it actually has a 9.6 with over 7,000 votes...how insane is that a 9 point fucking 6

153 Mil OW and a 9.6 imdb. You have got to be fucking kidding me.
And now for the sad news for me. I am in Gillette WY for the BMW MOA Rally and The Dark Knight is not playing anywhere near me. I would have to drive two hours to see it. I will not be seeing TDK until Sunday evening when I get home. But on the bright side I get to watch it on IMAX. Shitty and sweet.

Yea I noticed that as well, however, also looking at the demographics the non-US voters are the majority so far. The US votes just started really rolling in a couple hours ago, I expect by tomorrow its top 250 rating will have gone *up* due to the higher number of "regular" voters.

Yea, they do all kinds of weird number massaging to prevent people from stuffing the ballot box as it were, so ratings aren't always cohesive across the entire site.

I have to say, you were right on the money. It's hard to believe that it has a chance at the record when looking through a limited scope but between the hype and how incredible the movie actually was, it makes sense. Now it just stands to see how well it's going to hold up in the coming weeks (though there may be enough multiple viewings that it'll be just fine).
