Well I can understand then how that made you feel, even if I don't see the movie in the same way. I am phobic to anything that is a remake of some of my personal childhood favourites as has been mentioned on many times previously And although I feel the anger you exhibit towards Charlie is unwarranted, and feel it not to be as bad a movie as you (or six) make it out to be, I can understand where you are coming from.

But really, would you assasinate the man who created Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Ed Wood, Big Fish and the first 2 Batman movies? If so I would throw myself in front of your bullets. What he did with Edward Scissorhands was genius (and is placed no.2 in my all time favourites!!).

He should have stopped at Nightmare Before Christmas. Everything after that I could definitely live without.

I would assassinate the person responsible for directing the remake of Planet of the Apes, Corpse Bride, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, three of the worst films I've seen in the last decade. Whatever Burton had going for him when he made classics like Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, and Ed Wood, has been long lost.

Alright here we go with some true classics. Will Smith's masterpiece film is another one of those movies I saw when I was young and couldn't get enough of. It is a terrific film. The best film ever made involving aliens hehe. Jaws is a pure classic. Honestly you could take the last half hour of the movie by itself and it would still be on my list. It is just pure genius. It actually made people afraid to swim, now thats an impact! As you all know by now, I am a huge fan of Rocky. The first Rocky has to be my favorite. It shows him at his humble beginnings, where he comes from, the first training with Mickey. It is just so motivational. The next three were all amazing, but I have to put the original on top. Field of Dreams, man what can I say. I am a huge baseball fan. I saw this movie when I was really young and couldn't understand the real meaning of it, I just loved it because it was about baseball. As I have grown older, it hits me more and more, and it climbs higher and higher on my list. A truely perfect story. One of the best sports movies ever made, if you consider it one. Then we have South Park. I am a huge fan of the show, it is probably the funniest on television and well, the movie is pretty much the same, only better. Whenever I really need to laugh, this is one of the movies I will grab and put on. Every scene, every song, just so hilarious. You have to be a fan of the show to get the movie, but like I said, I am a huge fan, so this comedy ranks very high on my list of favorites

Burton's last good film was "Mars Attacks !". That was jubilatory, but since then, nothing worth on the radar.

I mostly agree Chienfantome but would personally include 'Sweeney Todd' on the good list. If there was ever a film he was right for, 'Sweeney Todd' was it. I haven't seen many mainstream films recently that -- from a character perspective -- are devastating Jacobian tragedies. Tragic and immense, 'Sweeney Todd' is easily the best work that Burton has turned in in over a decade.

I'm sorry to object A_Roode, but I personally thought "Sweeney Todd" was Burton's worst film ever. I could not stand watching it. It was pure torture to me. I hated the musical numbers, I hated the flashy art direction, which was too much fx and not enough real, I hated how the tone was falsly dark and truly naive, I hated how it had nothing to bring, no fun, no fear, no thrill, no reflexion, it was all just a big fake-looking show. And as much as I love Depp and would be delighted to see him win an Oscar some day, that was one role he did not deserve an Osar nomination for, not when 10 actors were much more deservant of such an honour.
With all due respect to Burton and your personal taste A_Roode, of course. That's just my opinion.

I got carried away by my Sweeney Todd hatred and forgot to say a word about your list Geezer

ID4 is a fun film to watch (way too high in your list though)
Jaws is a pure classic, the first of the summer blockbusters, with all Spielberg's talent attached to it.
Rocky... not a fan
South Park : hilarious

And Field of Dreams. A few words on that one. I'm way too French to understand baseball very clearly, that sport is still a bit mysterious to me. Yet Field of Dreams happen to be one of my favorite films too. I discovered it late, when I was 21 or 22 maybe, and had long wanted to see it. What truly impressed me when I saw it, is that it is not a film about baseball (thank God !!!!). It's a film about achieving your dreams, no matter how fantastic they are. It's a beautiful story, that weirdly has a Hollywood Golden Age sensibility, that reminds me of films by Capra. It's a picture of the old American image, the old fantasy of building your own dream no matter what people say. It's very American film in the best possible way.

Pointless fact: the original script (and maybe the book) had JD Salinger, writer of Catcher in the Rye, as the cynical novelist who eventually gets emotionally involved. But when Salinger heard it was going to become a movie (Salinger is not a friend of the cinema, to say the least), he ensured that his name wouldn't be used. In fact, the probably had to use someone the opposite (large and black, instead of thin and white) for the movie. Oh well, at least we got to see James Earl Jones.

20. Independence Day
19. Jaws
18. Rocky
17. Field of Dreams
16. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut

#20. Young Will Smith at his best. A multi-faceted cast, a typical Emmerech slam-bang survival blockbuster, with many many memorable scenes.
#19. God knows I never wanted to swim in the ocean again, especially at the age of 7 when I saw this.
#18. Didn't actually see it until well into the 80s... probably the best acting job that Sly ever did.
#17. Chien was right, it's not really about baseball. The quintessential heartwarmer.
#16. Never liked South Park, at all, so I didn't see it.

wow, It's been quiet today!! anyway, on with the list.

Independence Day - The best of Emmerich's offers so far, but even then, unlike Shryke, I found it highly unmemorable. Very few scenes I can even recall. Not really my kind of film though, so I would never have much to say on it anyway.

Jaws - Well what can I say that already hasn't been said. If this is not on your list, you don't like movies. It was such an intense piece of cinema, and continues to be so upon every viewing. Acting and direction are perfect.

Rocky - Well its a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. Im not a sly fan at all, but he pulled off this role perfectly. Good story and riveting viewing.

Field Of Dreams - Unlike Chien, despite it not really being about baseball, I found nothing to connect with this movie. Im sure its a great movie, and perfect for any American, but it just passed me by. Not really a Costner fan either, but Im sure if I was from the US I would respect it more.

South Park - Didn't see this movie until last year shockingly, but Im glad I have seen now. Not as good as Team America, but highly enjoyable. And like you say Geez, if you need a movie to laugh to, this is the perfect tonic.

16. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut

15. Sin City
14. The Sandlot
13. The Goonies
12. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
11. Training Day

You may be surprised to see what are mainly considered to be two kids or family movies this high up on my list, but these two have been favorites of mine since the first moment I saw them, and I still watch them every chance I get. How can anyone not love The Goonies? I can't think of a single reason not to love this movie. It is fantastic. Every kids dream adventure, almost real enough that it could happen to you. The cast is so perfect. It is the quintesential family adventure movie.

The Sandlot is my all time favorite "sports" movie. I can't even begin to describe what this film means to me. I grew up playing baseball, and this film is one of the reasons. To this day I quote it all the time. Every scene is great. If you haven't had a chance to check this one out, please do. It is funny, it is a great story of building friendships, it is a true gem for all ages. When I have kids, this will be one of the first films I ever show them. It is that important to me and will always hold a very high place in my list.

Back to number 15, Sin City. Really awesome movie. Frank Miller's finest. Each story brings something special to the film. Visually stunning, exceptionally acted. Definitely very high on my all time favorites list. The dialogue is also exceptional.

Back to the lighter side of film, Anchorman is a comedy that makes me laugh so hard it hurts. I quote this movie literally every day. Especially since I take a lot of tv production classes and we film newscasts. Some people don't like it, some just don't get Will Ferrell, but no matter what he does this will always be his masterpiece to me. The character is so suited for him and the supporting cast is brilliant as well. Every scene makes me laugh. It's the second highest comedy on this list (If you have been paying attention, you know what he other one is).

Finally to Training Day. It is really tough to leave this outside my top 10. It is Denzel's best film. Denzel is my favorite actor. This stunningly harsh look at the LA police department and street crime blew me away. The acting is what really does it. The way that Denzel and Ethan Hawke play off each other is so great. The lines that Denzel deliver's "This shit's chess it ain't checkers." I love it. Both from a filmmaking standpoint and a pure entertainment standpoint, it is one of the best films I have ever seen.

And if you have been following my posts all along, as well as this thread, combined with my studio names, I am sure that you could probably guess about 7-8 films that are in my top 10. If you'd like to try and guess feel free, I am sure that none will be really surprising if you've been paying attention.
