This is the single hardest slate i have ever had to put together. I still have no idea what to do. It's not fair. I can't pick out a single sure-fire bomb other than the $2 Postal. It is so hard, I can't see myself doing nearly as well in this one as I am doing in the current one.
Really? I found it ridiculously easy to pick.
Surefire Flops:
My Blueberry Nights- been on the shelf too long, bad word of mouth
88 Minutes- been on the shelf too long (plus people can already import it from most other countries)
Pathology- been on the shelf too long, advertising will be little
Baby Mama- Universal will promote their other April films more
Speed Racer- G rating, bad word of mouth from trailers, sandwiched between Iron Man and Narnia
Mister Lonely- has Harmony Korine ever directed a hit?
Postal- been on the shelf too long, it's Uwe Boll, the game isn't very well known
The Strangers- been on the shelf too long, will be killed by the blockbusters and to a lesser extent, What Happens In Vegas and The Midnight Meat Train
Padre Nuestro- the Sundance buzz died out quickly

You still have Speed Racer though. Which I will be shocked if it makes under 90 million, gets 4 PTA points, 9 top 5 points, and an imdb score of 5-7. So even though it is overpriced, those numbers are lofty. With nothing at all coming out in April, any film opening wide should accumulate top 5 points, so 88 Minutes will gather some. My Blueberry Nights should be a solid pick but will still get a couple PTA points. I think you underestimate Baby Mama but you may be right about the advertising, I have to keep an eye on that one. So we'll have to see. I still think it is very difficult.

RE: Baby Mama
When a film is opening against a film from New Line and a movie that changed it's name X number of times, I like it's chances. It might be overpriced but will definitely do something.

I still believe Deception will be a bigger hit than Baby Mama. I think a film with Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor and Michelle Williams will be a bigger draw to audiences than a film with Tina Fey, especially with couples and the plotline will attract other audiences. Plus, Deception's ad campaign just began with trailers attached to Number Three finisher Shutter. But Harold and Kumar will be the biggest that week because of the anticipation alone and the cult following of the original.

I dunno if Deception will be that big a hit Buscemi, and I don't think it will beat Baby Mama's BO, but it will certainly do ok. In this league, ok for $2 is too good. Baby Mama may beat Deception, but it would be expected to. Why would there be such a high price for it if there was no potential to back it up. I think it will flop, but only in comparison to its expectations. Therefore that will make it a more valuable movie to have on your slate than Deception.
I think some of the PTA films are most likely to disappoint. Much like Be Kind.. in February, there are some expensive PTA films this month, and I know some of them are gonna flop big style. Its just working out which ones they will be. Im guessing My Blueberry Nights will be one of those. The bad word of mouth will not be good for its crowd, as Im predicting, unlike 10,000 BC's fans, most art house fans go by word of mouth.
This season is certainly interesting though, Im glad I chose my first Bankrupts slate to be this one, quite the challenge.

Capital B and the exclamation point for the win.
"Thank you Silver Surfer! What can I do to repay you?"
Yeah I feel like an idiot.
I do have some questions though since this is my first time. Is there a spending limit? Do we have to spend as much of the hundred as possible like normal? I am assuming so since otherwise we would all pick 8 two and three buck movies. And can you pick under 8 and so reduce your imdb average?
Again I am not looking for loopholes just want to play by the rules.

Hey SS, you know where I can get a 1st edition copy of "The Catcher in the Rye" for under 30 bucks???
Thanks though. Just reiterates how often I pay absolutely no attention. Yeah he pretty much answered all my questioned in that second paragraph that my brain conveniently skipped.
And yeah I do wish I could erase this last 10 minutes from my stupidity record.

Yeah thanks. I will sell both of my motorcycles and I can afford the first half of the book. LOL You, my friend, are a smart asss of galactic proportions. (pun alert)
And this game is so so hard. I though I was doing good with a terrible top 5 and box office and then saw my imdb of 54.0. I think the highest I have EVER had was a 51.5 or so. And there are no Tyler Perry flms to suck that imdb down. Back to the drawing board... So far I know Postal is going in the slate. LOL
