Did someone say Gayman. Cough. I mean Gaiman.
Someone mentioned above the Dark Tower series. I have most of them on my shelf.(courtesy of my Grandmother). Sadly haven't had time to read them. Don't thin I have any of his graphic novels though. Besides the original Creepshow Graphic.
So is the Dark Tower series pretty good. Cause I pretty much have King's entire collection but have only read a few. If you say DT is worth reading then I'll be sure to pick those up next.

surfer, what if maus was done in the same style as persepolis?
crazy, i highly recommend you read AT LEAST the first installment of the dark tower series.. it's called "The Gunslinger." imo, its his best work... just make sure you're not reading the silly "revised" version (king pulled a george lucas)..

I haven't been able to see Persepolis yet, so I can't really tell if its actually translated ok. I guess by the fact it was up for an Oscar must have mean't it looks at least half good, and from what I have seen maybe it could work. I suppose Im just thinking of the way most comics have been translated to film, and forgot that an animated version does not have to be cgi. I don't know if there would be an audience for it outside the comic world though, not the kind of film many would go out of their way to see.

Preacher by Garth Ennis
"For several years, a film adaptation by View Askew Productions was in the works, with James Marsden attached to play the lead. The project never materialized, although production got so far as to begin make up tests for the Arseface character, gruesome pictures of which can be found online [1]. At one point, Samuel L. Jackson, a comic book fan, expressed interest in playing the Saint of Killers." - Wikipedia
I've read the first two trades and I have to say it's one of the best things I've ever read.

Not sure if this was the same production that View Askew attempted but filming on a version of Preacher was to have started in early 2004 but the distribution company (The Premiere Group, who never released anything) went bankrupt before production even started.

I remember reading that HBO are making Preacher into a TV series. I hope Marsden doesn't play the lead, he's a terrible, terrible actor.

I will second what NSpannaus said. I have only read the first 3 books of The Dark Tower series, but it is only a matter of time (too little of it) until I finish the series. So far they are definately worth reading. They are unlike anything else King has written and for that alone it is a must read. So atmospheric and intriguing. A mix of different genres which works. A fascinating read, and so far each one of the first three is different to the previous one. The Gunslinger is unlike anything I have ever read before. I don't know why but every time I hear "I wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones I think of the second book in the Dark Tower series (the name currently escapes me).

I'm guessing you haven't seen Enchanted. Great comic turn there.

just finished stephen king's "The Gunslinger Born"... it recounts (in comic form) the flashback segment of Wizard & Glass (aka The Darktower IV)... definitely my second favorite story from the series (next to the original, unrevised Gunslinger)...
both of those stories could DEFINITELY be adapted into great films, if they ever find their way into the right hands... and, hell, now they have the benefit of using the comic as a storyboard.. they really nailed the imagery ('cept i always thought of Jonas as a James Coburn type, and i figured the grown-up Roland would be a bit more rugged)
JJ Abbrahms has bought the rights from King for $19. Everything is 19.

It will probably suck with Abrams involved. He needs to do something original if he wants to live up to the "next Spielberg" hype rather than remake TV shows and adapt Stephen King novels (anyone can do that).
But at least Mick Garris isn't directing.

Some graphic novels I'd love to see turned into movies are Batman: The Long Halloween, Superman: Red Son (because it completely re envisions what superman would be like if he was communist) Crisis on Infinite Earths (because it was just such a land mark event in the DCU)

Haven't read the others but I loved Superman: Red Son. Very cool comic book.
I don't think Kingdom Come would make a very good film. Marvels would work better as a visually very cool period piece but its characters aren't developed enough. Marvels is just bits and pieces of stories.
Still have to read Sandman.
PS. I didn't know Stephen King wrote Graphic novels.

They (Stephen King's) are actually redone versions of the novels.
