I've been watching / re-watching a lot of films on DVD, if that counts...

Classes and homework are just so time-consuming. Plus, there hasn't been a whole lot out that I was really interested in seeing...

Well it's true that in the US, the beginning of the year didn't seem all that good indeed. In France we have good films in the first three months, and in Paris particularly, it's impossible not to go to the movies regularly, there's just too much temptation

I posted this in a different thread a few days ago and stand by every word:

P.S - Leave Ghost Rider alone - I enjoyed it's thick layer of schlock; have it with some crackers to go along with all the cheese and it's perfectly palatable.

Not every movie needs to be a classic, epic, cinematographically (is that even a word...?) flawless masterpiece in order to be enjoyed or have a fan base following.

Ghost Rider was by no means great and in fact the first time I watched it (yes, I watched it more than once...) I thought it was shallow and lame with a bad plot and acting that swung wildly from wooden to a level of wacky that I thought was just plain silly.

Second time round was a somewhat different story. I left my critical, cynical, (usual) self at the concession stand and saw it for what it really was; a bit of fun.

I didn't think that the plot improved any during or after a second viewing but the depth, acting and lameness can all be forgiven and even applauded when you watch it from the right perspective.

Plus, you can't knock the special effects; the CGI flames alone are groundbreaking.

Double Plus, Eva Mendes.

'Nuff said.

For anyone who hated this movie, consider giving it another shot when it comes out on DVD; I'd be interested to hear if your opinion changes even a little bit.

What i Love about Ghost Rider is that the movie is so bad that it's enjoyable to watch. Like Battlefield Earth and films like that.
But there is no doubt that it's the worst films I've seen in years (well, there's also Eragon...)...

Oh my God.... Eragon.....

I tried, really I did, to like this one but I simply abhorred it.

Not even the mighty Jeremy Irons nor the infallible John Malkovich were enough to rescue it from the firey maw of the dragon that is movie hell.

Awful, just awful....

Yeah, it was terrible, from beginning to end. I felt sorry for Djimon Hounsou who is an excellent actor.
But you know, Irons and Malkovich, they tend to make a living out of shitty films, unfortunatly...

don't forget, Eragon was a waste of film too.
And now it's a waste of perfectly usable DVDs.
Oh John Malkavich...

But Shryke... is there more to your Ghost Rider love than just the movie itself? (are you the admin of www.evamendesfans.com ? or maybe www.cagefactor.com ?)

Just really curious that's all, I'm not attacking you or anything, I just honestly want to know what you really liked about Ghost Rider.

Let me set the record straight, once and for all. There is nothing more to my Ghost Rider "love" (I'd prefer to call it a healthy like, if I'm being honest) than just being a fan. I am not on the admin, the board, the staff, or the janitor of any organization, blog or fanzine that supports this picture or anyone responsible for its creation.

I liked the effects. as AndTheWinnerIs said, they were top-notch. I liked Sam Elliott (Eva Mendes, I could take or leave). I also liked the updated version of "Ghost Riders in the Sky".

And for all of you Eragon-bashers out there, I actually kind of liked that one too. Because as much as I love comic book movies, I also love fantasy. Yes, Eragon was nothing more than a LOTR-meets-Star Wars retread, but there were still elements that I liked (esp. Sienna Guillory... her I would take). I'm not going to rush out and buy the DVD or anything, but I didn't hate it either. Not sure how I'll feel if they greenlight the next book in the series...

While not impossible, I think it unlikely for now (please God...).

Another dragon-lore novel called Temeraire by Naomi Novik has been optioned by one Peter Jackson and is hopefully going to go into production next year.

Now this is one to watch for... An alternative history set during the Napoleonic Wars, where dragons are used in aerial warfare as a kind of pre-avionics Air Force.

As PJ said himself "That's the kind of thing I go to the movies to see". (Imagine a cross between Master and Commander and something like Reign of Fire....

The book is gold - I recommend it.

In the hands of Jackson, this could be pure cinema magic!

All the 2007 movies I've seen, ranked from worst to best:

TMNT
Arthur and the Invisibles
Fired!
Blades of Glory
Year of the Dog
The Astronaut Farmer
300
Disturbia
Black Snake Moan
Reno 911: Miami!
Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theatres
Eagle vs. Shark
The Ten
Grindhouse

Overall, pretty decent year for movies for me, only the bottom two I absolutely hated and I didn't pay for them either. It's only going to get better though, with so many great movies coming out in the summer months.

I haven't seen many films at the cinemas this year, but my favourites would have to be

1. The Prestige
2. Hot Fuzz

I enjoyed both of these movies immensely. I saw 300, but was unimpressed by it. Visually nice, but no story. Just a big battle.
