I don't think Sweeny has enough broad appeal to make it a true Blockbuster. Having said that, the theatre version did VERY WELL in London...

No doubt about it, it made a great stage musical. I saw it and I would highly recommend it. Then again, Jerry Springer the Opera did very well on stage, but I couldn't see that making big bucks as a wide release film either.

I hope I'm wrong about Sweeny, though.

Its not getting a very wide release. But I think it'll do well in IMDB rating. Johnny depp and tim burton has a pretty strong fan base. So it'll do okay in some parts.

well, at least the studio's committed....now if only the public would respond.... *GRIN*

and Jacko, what do you mean, this'll have to be your anchor?? what about Compass?? Legend?? NT2?? Cloverfield (well, maybe too late in the season)?? all these films are better potential anchors than....gulp....Sweeney??

I mean, that the only way you can have this on your slate in December - January leagues and still have a full slate (a.k.a. a shot at winning) is if you use it as your blockbuster. It's not like that in the November leagues where there is plenty of wiggle room. But for December leagues, your gonna need it to carry you if you choose to have it on your slate. But this is strategy we are talking about! It differs for all people!

I STRONGLY suggest that you do not take this movie. It will be lucky to make 80 million. Why pay that price when you can get National Treasure 2 which is a guarentee of 125 mil, plus a lot mor top 5 points. Or there's always the Golden compass and I Am Legend. Do not think that Sweeny Todd can anchor a winter slate in either format!

In my Nov-Jan slate, I have
American Gangster
No Country For Old Men
I'm Not There
Enchanted
Juno
Sweeney Todd
Cloverfield
Be Kind, Rewind

So I'm not too worried about Sweeney being in there. I've got American Gangster and Cloverfield for the blockbusters. Enchanted as well.

However, I have the following for one of my Dec-Feb slate:
Charlie Wilson's War
Walk Hard
Sweeney Todd
Persepolis
There Will Be Blood
27 Dresses
Be Kind, Rewind
Funny Games

I like taking chances on one slate and hopefully hitting it big on another.

Must be, because Gangster, No Country, and Juno is like $70 by itself for Ultimate. Plus Enchanted and I'm Not There, that's another $25, and I know Cloverfield, Sweeney Todd, Be Kind Rewind aren't $5 combined. Haha.

Yes, they are both Box Office. I thrive in Box Office. In my Nov-Jan slate, I'm at 87%.

I like to go against the grain. I hate to pick National Treasure 2. It just leaves me feeling soulless.

I refuse to see the 1st movie. The way Cage says ''treasure'' annoys my ears.

Let's ask Kevin Smith.

Kevin Smith do you know what's going on?
