Some responses...

becs:

[The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything] won't be the next Passion.. but I think alot of people are underestimating the fact that the Veggie Tales have been sold out of Bible Book Stores like hot cakes for more than a decade now, the series has a very strong religious following, and the religious have a tendency to rabidly support anything in entertainment that is deemed "wholesome".

Great points, and I wholeheartedly (not to mention, "wholesomely") agree. And, sorry if I came off like a pompous jackass, there... I didn't mean to lecture you. (Or, well, actually I did, but I didn't want to be a jerk about it.) Geez Louise, religious people sure can be obnoxious sometimes! [Grin]

Also, thanks for the correction, I am somewhat ashamed of not having realized there was no actual silly song segment including the Pirates. Back in my youth I was a "helper" in veggie tales VBS for 2 weeks, so I heard that song more times than I care to remember.

No apologies needed, I was showing off and, anyway, the reason you couldn't remember that insignificant piece of children's entertainment trivia is probably no more complex than, you tried to block it out. I sympathize. (Or is it, "empathize"? Emphasize? Super Size? Oh, for God's sake...) Believe me, there are entire SHELVES of kids' programs in my home I'M still trying -- in at least nine different kinds of vain -- to forget, including thirty hours of Dora the Explorer, all the "Joe era" Blue's Clues- erm, es, and absolutely every single frame of Barney and the Teletubbies ever produced. (Adding insult to injury, the Barney shows all used to be taped not a mile and a half from my house. I kid you not.)

And, hey, props for volunteering to work VBS, there. An entire week spent around overenthusiastic, Bible-quoting primary-schoolers will definitely get you to believe in God. (Actually LIKING Him, especially near the end of it, is another matter entirely.) [Grin]

Optimus: Good for you, matey! Garrrrr! You can be Mr. Lunt, if I can be Pirate Pa. Oy! I'd still recommend adopting Orphanage, tho.

Banks: I like your style, son. You're probably right about the IMDb. [Shaking head sadly] I wish people weren't so unremittingly predictable sometimes.

I thought the trailer [for The Orphanage] looked terrible.

Agreed and seconded, although perhaps the worst trailer I've seen all year is for Youth Without Youth.

ohnaut:
Is Johnny Depp in this Pirates movie? If not, box-office will surely be low.

Compared to what, exactly? Pirates of the Carribean? Well, sure, but compared to those films, Hell, even the Indiana Jones, Star Trek and Terminator franchises look pretty weak. Look, there's no question, Pirates (not those Pirates, these Pirates) won't be a blockbuster. But neither will it be a TOTAL dud. $30, $35 million is very reasonable, not to mention achievable, and that's just in January. $50 million is probably too much to hope for overall, but, hey, we can't all have Jerry Seinfeld, Ray Romano and John Ratzenberger in our animated-talking-whatzits titles, can we?

...a christian punk band called Reliant K...

I must be getting old, I remember when Styper was cool. Well, actually, they were never cool... [sigh] forget it.

I remain, as always...
