Quite possibly. But if it does it will definatley make some money on dvd. Either that or it will be pirated all over america. Its a shame when good movies get overlooked because some people have the "luxury" of downloading it on their computer. Oh well. I'm not judging. On another note. I'm not going to prison either.

The question I am struggling with right now is whether to bet on 30 Days of Night or Saw IV.

The catch is that I am working on a Box Office slate, so all I care about are gross receipts, and the showdown basically becomes:
Saw IV: $17
30 Days of Night: $8

The way I look at it, Saw IV has to nail a $60M box office to be worth putting in my slate. 30 Days of Night needs about $30M. The projected results are $45M and $22M, respectively, but the risk of return is greater with Saw IV since it limits my other choices.

As of now, I decided to spend the larger chunk on American Gangster (twenty-nine freaking dollars, which means I am hoping for a near impossible $100M) and hedge my bets by picking 30 Days of Night. If American Gangster tanks there will be no salvation for my poor slate so I figured why not guess at a few of the smaller hits that can give a decent cost/value ratio.

I am finding Season #5 really hard to maneuver through. All of these limited releases are screwing with my head... and this is only the second season I have played. This stuff is so immensely complicated that it sure keeps my poor, wrecked mind busy.

Of course, my Season #4 slate is doing terrible, so anything I say is more or less me trying to figure out how all of this is supposed to work.

I don't mean to be one sided. I really want to see 30 days of night. But I highly doubt that it will beat saw IV. Saw IV has developed quite the fan base and has only been making more and more money every year.

Oh, I highly doubt 30 Days of Night will top Saw IV, but in BO that is not what matters. Which will be worth the money I paid to put it in my slate? I do not play Ultimate, so the question is whether to pay more for Saw IV when I could get 30 Days of Night and another choice. Saw III pulled around $75M in four weeks, which would be an excellent buy in BO for $17. If Saw IV can match that, it would make everyone happy.

But, I went and botched my Season #5 slate with Across the Universe, which seems to have completely disappeared. Looking back, that $17 would have been perfect for Saw IV. In any case, 30 Days of Night seems like a safe bet for $8.

cRAzY, hen wanted to know if saw IV will more than double 30 days of night....as in would saw IV make enough money to justify spending 17$ on it, or will it be a safer bet to bank $8 on 30 days....

well, in my opinion, saw may have a base, but 30 days is a vampire movie and it IS october, and also josh hartnett is in it (he does have draw, no matter how many bombs he's responsible for) and the trailers are exciting and saw IV seems to be the sequel that might start the decay of the series....i don't think saw IV will match saw III, but it might get to the 50mil or even 60 mil mark....as for 30 days, i'm sure it's a sleeper and might give you 30-40 mil at least....

ten bucks to guess which movie i'm gonna recommend....

lol, in my opinion, go with 30 days, it fits your slate better and it has more value for money....

saw IV may beat 30 days, but it sure ain't gonna double its grosses....

PS>> best time to decide is right before the weekend when the first one releases, i believe that's on the friday when 30 days releases....do it before 5 pm pacific time though, coz thats when the movies get locked....read mase's predictions and shuffle around your slate if 30 days isn't looking too good....otherwise, run with 30 days and you should be just fine....

True. But there have plenty of articles about Saw dropping its reputation. Its just the matter of when. It could be Saw IV although it sounds unlikely. 30 Days of Night, IMO has definately got the ability to have much more revenue than Saw IV. Be prepared for a tight horror showdown with my money going to the moviemaking abilities of David Slade who turned nothing in to something [Hard Candy]

I saw the new preview for saw and I don't think its gonna disappoint at all. I've been a little busy working lately and haven't had time to check out all the line ups for the month. 30 days of night comes out in the next few weeks right. If I'm not mistaken Saw IV comes out friday before halloween. Just cause its october doesn't mean everyones gonna watch horror movies all month. Therers only one horror fans are going to see on halloween. And thats saw. With little competition it should do very well. Much more than most of you expect. By the time halloween comes around most of the people who had interest in 30 days would've already seen it. Plus numbers don't lie. People don't like to take risks. they've seen the saw movies. they must've liked them. therefore i don't see how thats gonna change this year. If spiderman 3 can break box office records. I'm pretty sure Saw IV won't be far behind or in front of its predecessors.

Sinister, brutal, and unrelentingly violent, 30 Days of Night is the best vampire movie – and likely best horror movie – to be unleashed upon audiences this year. No one is safe and seldom does a sliver of hope surface in the rapidly diminishing chance of survival in this world submersed in darkness. Though the story grounds itself in preconceived vampire mythos, the visuals do not, and a masterpiece of bloody violence emerges, revealing such intensely vicious imagery that fans of the genre (as well as the original graphic novel) will revel in the carnage.

In Barrow, Alaska, the northernmost city in the world, once a year during the winter, the sun disappears for 30 days. Isolated by 80 miles of ice and snow, the town prepares for the lightless month. But a group of blood-starved vampires have made their way into the shadowy environs of Barrow to feast on the town, concerned only with satisfying their feeding frenzy. It is refreshing to see a vampire film that doesn't shy away from violence and that doesn't dwell on anything that can be even remotely construed as hokey. A new cinematic creature, 30 Days of Night's antagonists are ultra scary with their deformed appearances and their mercilessly gut-wrenching killing sprees. They speak in their own demonic language and have super human strength and speed, making them a Michael Myers fashioned juggernaut. High-pitched shrieks, blood-soaked visages and razor-sharp fingernails complete a frightening design of this force to be reckoned with.

The character designs are not just notable for the vampires, but also for Eben and Stella, who are brilliantly portrayed by Josh Hartnett and Melissa George. 30 Days of Night is not just about brutal vampire melees, but about sacrifice and protecting loved ones regardless of the dangers. Particularly powerful scenes continually arise as the struggling survivors are forced to cede to unbearable situations to ensure the survival of others. Eben too must make difficult choices to provide leadership for the group and to preserve his fragile relationship with his wife Stella. While it's difficult to judge authentic reactions to a vampire outbreak, the characters all perform honestly and emotionally to any event that could just have easily been grounded deeper in reality.

From beheadings to animal violence, to the slaughter of children, to maniacal misuse of a snow plow, 30 Days of Night douses you in blood and suspense. A few minutes into the film we are immersed in quick, gritty violence and intensity and it never lets up until the climactic conclusion. Never has a film been so white-knuckle thrilling and jaw-dropping shocking from start to finish. As a horror film, 30 Days of Night succeeds admirably due to its fast-paced, stunning visuals, and explosive action. A nonstop thrill ride guaranteed to please fans of the original groundbreaking graphic novel as well as newcomers to the genius of David Slade (Hard Candy) and Steve Niles (writer of the original comics).

All I can say is - EXACTLY what I hoped for after reading the graphic novel. That and I am STOKED to see Ben Foster's performance, he has proven to be a freaking acting genuis, changing his type of role recently like an acrobat - plus he so good at doing dark and creepy and evil.

So, considering I have constantly bumped this thread, i just thought I would throw out my closing comment now that it is released.

Thus far I have seen the movie 4 times. Its just as beautiful and perfect as I ever hoped. It completely follows the graphic novel.

It was AMAZINGLY well interpreted to screen. Its so simple and quiet at the start, and it just builds this intensity off of that (hmm.. suddenly I understand why they wanted Josh Hartnett, cause that kind of his M.O - quietly intense).

Cinematically, there is the obvious dream situation for a striking picture - Lots of white (snow), lots of black (considering theres no sun), and red all over. But they didn't go with the cliche "pretty looking" and most striking shots of blood like they could have to make it more artistic, it is made so much more dramatic because they used blood against snow in a chaotic and genuinely brutal way that is rarely done.
There is one scene near the beginning, before anyone knows whats happening, where Eben and Stella are driving in their truck and a vampire gets on the roof - the scene is short and intense, but visually it somehow comes across like a black and white flip book comic - it gives me goosebumps every time, and they don't go away till the end of the movie.

Over all, to say the least, I am overwhelmingly pleased with the movie and all my high expectations have certainly been met.

Well it just doesn't look like this is the "sleeper" everyone thought it would be. It is doing ok, it will easily win the weekend, but being a breakout hit that will rival what Saw 4 is going to do is not happening. Mase has it pegged at just over 13 million, which will be a dissapointment to all of those that thought it would do better (myself included.) Its release date alone makes it a pretty decent pickup, as it may get to 8 top 5 points, but it will probably only end up with grosses in the range of about 35 million. Not bad, but not exactly great, considering all the talk and the hype.

If you consider that eh projected earnings of night was about 23 mil, I would say that even if it is not a "hit", it was a successful release. I think on the game side it should definitely meet or slightly excede predictions.
