I thought it was funny they rated it pg. A kid gets stabbed and let's not forget the messy battle towards the end. Oh yeah. And the lion dies. I thought it was pretty good.

Narnia could have been a 'great' film, but it had bad editing and blood-free fights. Therefore it's only a 'good' movie. But when comparing Narnia 1 to The Fellowship of the Ring, Narnia is like The Covenant.
very true ! i wasn't impressed at all by this movie. too bad !

The entire idea of Narnia is terrible. The books conveyed some awful pseudo-christian theme, and portrayed the backwards beliefs of a time long gone, where the women in the story are either evil or spend their time crying and hiding. The film itself was badly put together.
Thank god (yes, I know) for the His Dark Materials trilogy, which will hopefully blow Narnia out of the water.

As C.S. Lewis was an outspoken christian and all of his fiction has underlying christian tones, I'm not sure why you would expect anything else (?). However, if you haven't read the full series, basically Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe is the least interesting and the only one that is blatantly religious.
Prince Caspian is an intense story where hundreds of years have passed since the original kids went to narnia, and the world has greatly changed. Prince Caspian's evil uncle Miraz has taken over rule of the land and under his rule all things magical have been quashed. Talking animals, Dwarves, tree spirits, etc are in hiding if not out of existence entirely, and its up to a couple of the original kids to encourage and assist Prince Caspian in overthrowing the evil regime.
The following (and final) 2 books in the series The Silver Chair, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, are my own personal favorites, as the silver chair involves journies through the land of giants and a marshwiggle named Puddleglum (who is hilarious), and voyage of the dawn treader is centered upon a voyage to the edge of the world and the mystical islands and adventures along the way.

Not to pick nits, becs, I agree with everything you've said, but there were seven books in the series, not four.
There was also The Horse and His Boy, The Magician's Nephew (which actually takes place before all the others), and The Last Battle.
It's been a long time since I've read the books, but I do know that the four Pevensie children will all appear in Caspian. In Dawn Treader (which has also been greenlit), only the two youngest, Edmund and Lucy, along with their snotty cousin Eustace, will appear. By The Silver Chair, there will be no more Pevensies at all, and the main character is a girl named Jill Pole.
I remember very little about the final three books, but none of them really enthralled me like the first four did.

Correct, Prince Caspian is however, the 4th book in the series.
Not sure as it has been a long time for me also, but I could have sworn Susan was out of it before Price Caspian...

Hi Becs,
I read most of the books as a child, and enjoyed them. Then I grew up, watched the movie, and discovered the blatent moralising and anachronistic characterisation, and now realised what I once loved was actually awful. So yes, I have read some of the other books, but their imagination does not improve the matter much.

Question: How is blatent moralising in plot any different that blatent amoralism? Why is pushing atheism, new age, mysticism in a movie more acceptable than carrying tones of christianity?
I just don't see how the morals carried in a story impact the quality of the authorship.

I'd say its dogmatism that gets my goat. The bleak glibness that many horror films try to convey is usually just as terrible.

Becs, I'm not sure where you're getting your order from...
I thought it was well established that Lion Witch Wardrobe was the 1st part of the series, and Caspian followed immediately after. Those two stories may not be the first chronologically, but they are the first two books in the series. Which source are you using?

I'm going off the boxed set I have, you can also check trusty source Wikipedia, which has them order by publishing (first column), and by chronology (2nd) column:
6 1 Magician's Nephew, The
1 2 Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The
5 3 Horse and His Boy, The
2 4 Prince Caspian
3 5 Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The
4 6 Silver Chair, The
7 7 Last Battle, The
And, of course, me being noobtarded I forgot entirely about The Last Battle, Which I think closes the series very very well, however would make a terrible movie for the reason's cited earlier - it would be too similar to the 3rd LOTR move in that a large part of it is just war.
