Take a look at http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070704/ap_en_mo/film_transformers_box_office
So, a Monday advance screening of 8.8 mil
Is that good or bad? I think it's very good, and this should set transformers up for a 65 (or maybe even a 70) mil weekend if the hype goes on.

I want to know how anybody saw a sneak for this when paramount put locks on all the second cans. this really grinded our gears if ya know what i mean. I worked all weekend only able to build half the movie up wanting to pry my way into the second canister. dam you paramount. For your sake I hope I paid alot of attention when doing this one. If I have to go fix anything during our eight o clock. Im a gonna go apeshit.
Paramount put locks on all the second cans, yes, but:
1.) Digital prints arrived at digital locations Friday, and ours was into our system by Friday night and transferring to individual screen servers overnight into Saturday. You couldn't get the lock code for the 35mm film canister until 9 AM Monday (and thus couldn't even start to build the second half of the movie, much less watch it), but the digital keys were active at 8 AM, so if the movie showlist file was all built (as ours was), we could watch it then. Another reason digital is awesome.
2.) I'm SURE they had screenings for critics.

I forgot about the digitals. that blows. do digital screens still preview when they come in. im not sure on your theaters policy on previewing is.
p.s. If digital screens are able to preview that kinda defeats the purpose of locking the non digitals doesn't it. Just me thinking aloud. Im glad we didn't have any problems for our first showing. I had to pay to go see it an would've been pissed if i made any mistakes. it was really blurry off an on though so i was still kinda pissed.

Too bad Universal didn't distribute Transformers. They could have made an awesome attraction at the theme park!

Finally saw Transformers today. Whew.
First, the pros: The thing with a Michael Bay movie is that you can eventually tell it IS a Bay movie, even if you didn't know that fact going in. To wit, the kind of movie where you could take any two minutes in the entire length of the film and make a trailer out of it. You know what I mean. In every one of his films, when the effects and the explosions and the dramatic, heroic slo-mo shots threaten to burn out every synapse in my brain, there comes a moment when I just sit back in my chair and think, "This is SUCH a Bay movie." In this movie, yes, that moment did come, but it occurred closer to the end of the movie than it ever has before. The F/X was stupendous, and the characters were pretty cool. There was a good amount of humor in it, and it never ever dragged.
The cons: While the violence in the movie seemed to indicate that the film was aimed at adults and adolescents, it sometimes resorted to bathroom humor and double entendres just for yuks, which I think only young children would find funny.
My opinion: I have never given a Bay movie a 10/10, and Transformers is not going to be the first. But it did come closer to a 10 than anything he's ever done before, and I give it a hearty 9/10. Which means, for me, that I won't be rushing out to see it again, and I don't know if I'll buy the DVD when it comes out.
In the ranks of the summer blockbusters for me, I put it behind FF2, POTC3 and Ratatouille, but ahead of Evan, Spidey 3, Shrek 3 and DH4.
Can't wait for Harry Potter.
