No way.
As kid_icarus pointed out. Universal has been one of the worst performing studios over the past decade not in terms of overall box-office, but profit-wise.
King Kong was considered a mild disappointment even though it made like $220M but Universal let it's damn budget skyrocket to like $210M. They'll obviously make it all back with DVD sales and that.
But I still don't understand how the hell a movie like Evan Almighty cost $200M. What the hell were the execs smoking?
Transformers had a budget of $150M but with $200M Transformers could have had that crazy-ass awesome aircraft carrier idea that Michael Bay wanted to do.

The reason the budget was so high Tuan, from my understanding anyway, is that the animals did not want to behave themselves.
If my memory serves me correct, they originally had live animals on set, one male and one female obviously. That wasn't working out, if you know what I mean, so they had to replace one, or both with digital doubles. Plus, throw in the CG work and a hefty dollar amount for both Carell and Freeman, boom, mega millions.
Universal says $175 mil, I've read as high as $250, not to mention marketing and such...

I think that it will perform similar to Click with around a 40 million dollar opening. I love Steve Carrel but this just doesn't look very funny, and I hated Bruce Almighty. It is true though the marketing for this movie has been constant with ads coming on tv all the time.
With regards to Chuck and Larry, there is no way it will make 200 million dollars that's an outrageous prediction.

Yeah I get ya now kid_icarus.
I just watched a little Evan Almighty news reel on TV.
Man, I didn't know they actually built a giant ark. Like, it's freaking huge man!
And they brought in all the animals and what you mentioned about the animals not behaving. Crazy lengths!

Chuck and Larry's subject will limit its box office potential. As funny as it may or may not be, the general audience will probably not want to see it, especially the strong conservative side. I would say the box office would mirror Blades of Glory's earnings (I don't remember the how much it earned, I know it did well but not as great as people expected).

I think Evan will do pretty well. Opening weekend should be between 35-45 million.
Little kids love animals, so they'll want to see it for the monkey with the wrench or the giraffes trying to reach up and grab something.
I'm not sure if I'll see it yet. I love Steve Carell, but the jokes are probably for the kiddies. This is probably an alternative for the kiddies for parents who don't want to show them violence (not extensive though) in Fantastic Four.

It was pretty much clarified that the studio was desperate when they had an hour long 700 Club episode for Evan Almighty.

On What level of success are we talking here? Are we talking total BO, are we talking from a FM standpoint? Because financially for this movie NOT to be a bomb, it needs to make about $200mil, factoring in the cost to make.
It'll be this years Poseidon, financially speaking.

Do you get the feeling that everything just spiralled out of control and nobody had the power to stop the madness? Did they just start to spend so much money that they decided to say 'damn everything' and finish the film in order to at least make some of it back? Most movies are now designed to make back their money through dvd rentals/sales, television royalties and merchandising. 'Evan Almighty' is going to have its work cut out for it!
But darn it all if I don't laugh every time I see Carrell sitting down drinking a coffee surrounded by monkeys doing the same thing!

Let's just say that if Steve Carrel wasn't the star of the film, Universal would be bankrupt

A $35-45 million opening weekend is still less than half of Bruce Almighty's $85 million opening. Yeesh.
First show today? Evan Almighty -- 36 tickets sold. Shrek the Third -- 62 tickets sold. Uh-oh.

Steve's early estimates indicate that Evan will only open to about $35M - $40M. Uh-oh, Universal must be pissing in their pants.
With this opening, it won't even make $100M.
ahhaha, I laugh at you Universal you dumbasses!
