All churches aren't like anything, meaning that there are so many branches of Christianity that believe so many things that you can't classify Christians (or any group of people) as this or that. The only thing they really have in common is the belief that the messiah was Jesus and he gave up his life for all.

Some branches and individuals are hateful and some aren't. Some believe that gays are immoral and some incorporate them into their flock and downplay the anti-homosexual vibes in the Bible. And so on, and so forth.

I really dont want to get into any of the religious arguments on here but I just thought that I would through in that we have two sold out shows at my theater now and both shows have been sold exclusively to firemen not churches or christian groups. other than that we have sold about 14 seats so far.

Man, those firemen are going to go crazy when they see how bad those action-scenes are. Crazy! They're going to burn that theater down!

The Bible teaches to love the sinner, not the sin. It is anti-homosexuality, but pro-homosexual (meaning, loving them unconditionally). I think what most people forget is that our model, Christ, was a man of the people. He didn't hang with the smartest or the cleanest or the richest, he hung with people that needed the hope and salvation and love he could provide.

I'm sorry about the religious posting, but I think it's necessary for people to get the best information possible, especially when means so much to some people.

Yes, Firemen will see any movie with the word "Fire" in the title.

Sheep...

That's pretty much what I meant. I never said that I hate Jews or Hindus or Muslims, I just don't like what they believe because it is contridictory to the Bible.

Yeah, baby.

By the way, I just saw the movie. (I'll talk about it in the An Idea thread.) Huge theater room. Absolutely jam-packed. And all ages too. There were a ton of elderly people in there (and Mase says they don't see a movie on opening weekend) and there were also a lot of couples and even teenagers. And everybody was crying. Everybody. This film is going to have some of the best word of mouth of any movie this year. Get ready. The box office is about to see a suprise hit turn into a suprise phenomenon.

I gotta ask, why have any opinion at all about other's beliefs? I follow Buddhist practices over any other (but avoid saying I'm a Buddhist because I don't like this exact stigma over group belief), and I don't see why you even have the right to not like my, or any other groups, beliefs because a book tells you different. Do you even know other religions beliefs, or just don't want to take the time to actually look into them?

out of curiosity, which specific buddhist text(s) did you read that prompted you to identify yourself with the religion?

Yes, mfrendo. I do know about other religions. You obviously assume that I don't have strong faith, saying that I haven't looked at other religions, and that I don't because "a book" tells me otherwise. Believing may not mean much to you, but it does to me. So if someone believes something that directly contradicts what I believe and what I love, then I'm not going to like what they believe.

I've read quite a bit. Pema Chodron's books are quite useful (for those of any religion), as far as methods to enhance quality of life. I'm a big fan of Brad Warners books, and his online column. I've read a few of the sutras, and other stuff. I've read quite a bit from all religions, to be honest (even going to a Catholic high school when I was, well, in high school). I don't really think any religions better than any other, as they all point to the same basic truths...unless they're abused by charlatans, which all religions have as well (the Pat Robertson type).

I never at all questioned your faith, J.I. It is in fact that "strong faith" which I find troublesome because many times (and notice I did not say always) "strong faith" becomes close-mindedness to other cultures and belief systems, leading to bigotry and hate (notice how almost every war has a dispute about religion at it's heart...with Christianity being the main aggressor of wars in recent years). My problem isn't your faith, it's the fact that you use it to look down on others who don't share it.

Pretty much my thoughts on the subject. As long as you're not a closed-minded, disrespectful zealot, I can get along with you. My basic principle that pushed me in this direction (since I believe in a God already) is that while Jesus is a forgiving man that tells you to "Love Thy Neighbor" among other things, he won't let a person of a different faith into Heaven according to MOST Christians. Also, most religions share the same belief system and I'm quite sure in my own mind that the God of the three major religions (Christianity, Islam, and Judaism) are one in the same. Different strokes for different folks type deal.

I need to study up on my religion, though.

As I said before, I don't look down on people at all because of their religion. But that doesn't mean that I like their religion.
