300 is what it is. Its just cool, I seem to be in the minority.

I never liked Walk the Line. I thought they picked the wrong story to tell in Cash's life.
Didn't like The Aviator either, zzzzzzzz....

I heartily agree with you, kid. 300, for me, is still the coolest movie of the year (including SM3, which I just saw yesterday).

I also agree with you about Walk the Line. It was an okay story, but I liked Ray a lot better. Aviator bored me to tears too.

Here are some movies from the IMDb Top-Ranked 250 that I just don't like, for whatever reason:

Memento
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Crash
The Prestige
Children of Men
Toy Story 2
Grindhouse
Mystic River

Most of the others on that list (that I've seen anyway) I seem to like.

Aww, what didn't you like about Memento and The Prestige? They were great films. Wait a minute... you got something against Chris Nolan don't you?

Not at all, tuan. In fact, Batman Begins was my 2nd favorite film of 2005 (after Narnia), and I am looking forward to The Dark Knight with bated breath. I also liked Insomnia, though I didn't love it.

The reason that I didn't like Memento was, well, the story just wasn't that interesting to me. The whole told-in-reverse thing was cool, yes, and as you worked backwards you found out more stuff about what was going on, but the revelations weren't that gosh-wow to me. Ten out of ten for innovation, yes, but the story itself just left me shrugging my shoulders.

As for The Prestige, well, I went in with enormous expectations, given how cool the trailer was. The story was overlong in more than a few places, and I found the rivalry between Bale and Jackman's characters to be more than a little juvenile. Scarlett Johanssen was completely wasted. The effects were cool, but that's about it. Plus, it came out at nearly the same time as The Illusionist, which was its superior in nearly every way (except, regrettably, the scope of its release and it's eventual total box office receipts).

Never seen his early stuff, Doodlebug or Following. But nope, I got no prob with Mr. Nolan.

In my opinion, "Batman Begins" is the least Nolan of all Nolan's films. So, if you're basing your affection of Nolan on "BB", then you might not care for the Brit.

Watch his first feature-length, "Following" and then you'll know. You can see exactly where "Memento", inferior to "Following" in its use of backwards storytelling, was derived from. "Insomnia" was okay in terms of remakes, but far inferior to its original. I agree with you about "The Prestige". Just didn't care for it, especially compared to "The Illusionist". They are different movies, but I like where "The Illusionist" was going compared to "The Prestige"'s referencing "Multiplicity".

Personally, I'm disappointed you don't care for "Eternal Sunshine". To me, it's one of the most intelligent romances and delves farther into emotions than a majority of flicks even care about going into.

Shryke i also didn't like The Prestige, Chlidren Of Men or Eternal Sunshine. I didn't see Crash or Memento. I thought Mystic River and Toy Story 2 were pretty good. I got to disagree completly with Grind House though i loved it it's my 2nd favorite of 07 so far. Also i agree with number six Master and Commander was shit. 300 was bad ass and was a fantastic movie. I don't get what is with all the 300 haters.

transformer2 not liking "Master and Commander"...couldn't see that coming. Too A.D.D. for it, transformers2? Perhaps you would have enjoyed it a little more if they Tarantinoed the sailors. So, when the kid loses his arm they replaced it with a cannon. And when they get to the island, the lizards Bettany's character discovers are 8 ft. tall and devours the ship. Also, the island is inhabited by Snake Plisken (sp?) and Kevin Smith with a cameo from Gilligan as a homophobic tribesman. Would that be more up your alley, transformers2?

What is with all the "300" haters? Huh, watch "Gladiator" with pen and paper and make notes on the intricacies of the dialog, its characters and their relationships, and even the skill at which the action sequences are filmed. For extra credit, note the almost seamless relationship between story and technology. Then, you just might, just maybe, will understand the depths at with "300" will never reach. Oh, and "Gladiator" gets points for no androgenous "people".

Sorry Crazy, but 300 IS shallow, and POTC ARE predictable and boring. Peter Weir's Master & Commander : now that's excitment, that's adventure, that's cinema.

Sorry guys but i'm still gonna have to disagree with you on this one. 300 hundred wasn't the best movie in the world but it sure wasn't the worst. Gerard Butler was a haus in that one. much better than in timeline. I also liked the south park episode they did on 300. that was funny. As for pirates, they aren't my favorites either but they are somebodies because they are makin a buttload of money.

Wow Frisky Tiger i liked Gladiator a lot i thought it was a great film. The Tarintino comment very funny. Master and Commander was just lifeless if they just made it more interesting and less boring maybe they would have been on to something. Also Kevin Smith is fantastic.

Gladiator, now there's an overpraised film if I've ever seen one. Talk about an overelaborate excuse for a bit of violence.

300 may not have been great, but at least it knew what it was.

300 is more of an over-elaborate excuse for a bit of violence.

Yeah but 300 knew that that's exactly what it was, a bit of gore, and didn't try to rise above that.

Sure, Gladiator had better script and characters, but it didn't amount to much more.

Which film had the better ending speeches?

Russell Crowe's speech in Gladiator is a modern day masterpiece.
