So apparently Depp is signed up for 3 more films by Disney.
Depp, taking on the role of the Mad Hatter, has accepted an invitation to join the manic tea party in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland."
In a surprise piece of casting, Depp also will play the sidekick Tonto in the upcoming movie version of "The Lone Ranger."
and something special
Pushing the pedal to the metal, Disney and Pixar have moved up the animated sequel "Cars 2" from summer 2012 to summer 2011. Another sequel, "National Treasure 3," has been put into development, as has a fourth "Pirates."
Another Pirates! Disney must want it's July record back!

Also mentioned in the article, Oprah Winfrey's Princess and the Frog, Cars 2, National Treasure 3, Bolt (which was screened it's entirety)
And a special bonus: The storyline to Toy Story 3-D
Lasseter also revealed the story line for "Toy Story 3-D," which will reunite the cast as the beloved toy characters deal with their owner leaving for college.

I like Johnny Depp and all but could they not find any real Indians for Tonto's part? I'm sure they could find one if they looked.

A fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean is a terrible idea. Didn't critics and audiences find the third the worst?
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski will be reteaming for an animated film called Rango for Paramount. In this film, Depp voices a dog who goes on a journey to find himself. Pixar meets Into The Wild?

Depp, apparently, has Cherokee blood but I get what you're saying Jack. Surely they could have side-stepped some controversy and cast Adam Beach, or Wes Studi -- somebody!

I also think The Lone Ranger is a bad idea. They already fucked up once so why fuck up again?
Meanwhile, I agree that Adam Beach (who should have been nominated for an Academy Award for Flags Of Our Fathers two years ago) should play Tonto and Depp should play the title character. In fact, that's probably the main reason why the last version sucked so badly because of the decision to cast the title character last and with a talentless unknown. Well that, the lack of a good story and replacing the William Tell Overture with a bad narration by Merle Haggard.

Maybe Adam Beach wants to get away from being typecast as "the guy who plays every Native American character in every movie," because that's basically what I think when I see him on screen.

Ever since they announced Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, it has been a lock that Depp would be the Mad Hatter (even though a small part of me was hoping for the Caterpillar or the Cheshire Cat in some weird incarnation) - it was only a matter of time until it became official.
Lasseter also revealed the story line for "Toy Story 3-D," which will reunite the cast as the beloved toy characters deal with their owner leaving for college.
Aw that sounds sad... Not gonna lie, I cried during Toy Story 2...

And I think it is utterly criminal that more Native American actors aren't able to breakthrough into more diverse roles that don't rely on cultural stereotypes or expectations. Adam Beach has had very good success balancing this -- I'm thinking of his work on 'Law And Order' where his status as a Native American isn't necessary to the character.
But then there is Tonto. If you are going to make 'The Lone Ranger,' then give the part to an actor who is actually Native. It doesn't have to be Adam Beach. I would love if it gives an unknown actor a chance to become a household name. I don't care who it is, but the producers will provoke needless racial tension if they don't cast a Native American to play a Native American part. This assumes of course that the film adaptation plans on some degree of loyalty to the original series.

Why would anyone make a Lone Ranger movie anyhow? Almost everyone who watched the TV show is probably dead or stuck in a retirement home.

Good move with Cars 2 and newt. Why would a kids' movie come out 6 years after the original, anyway?
I'd be glad for them to make a Pirates movie as long as its better than the last 2. Or at least the last one. Otherwise, the series should be over. If it is well liked, they might make it into another trilogy.

I'm 34 and I remember watching reruns with my dad and I loved it. I like watchin old western shows. Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, some of Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. I would like to see a Lone Ranger movie as long as it don't suck. which this one probably will but I will give it a watch.

I'm only 26 and I most certainly remember watching The Lone Ranger as a kid. 'High Ho Silver Away' was pretty much my catchphrase between the ages of 5 and 8!! I used to love that show, and named my goldfish Tonto. I think there would most definitely be a lot of interest in the movie, and with Depp's name attached it will bring in a bucket load.

Yeah, Toy Story 3-D doesn't just sound like the end of a series but the end of a generation.
