While I think the salary cap is the fairer game, if draft was made available I would join one or two leagues, just for that sense of having my "own" film. That said, if I'm last pick in the first round of the draft I'll more than likely end up ignoring that league.
There's been a lot of moaning about the salary cap method. I find it much better, despite its deviation from reality (i.e. that REAL movie moguls can only get a movie each).

I'll play both types, but like you, I do like the "my movie and nobody else's" thing.

I'd actually like a new game altogether. Where you have to bid for the film, so only one person ends up with a particular movie. Just like in real-life. So it's kind of a mix between Draft and Salary-Cap and you also still have only $100 to spend.

Interesting idea, Tuan, it's like Fantasy Moguls meets Ebay!
I think that game would be a problem as not everyone would make it to the draft on time. I's sure you could set a bidding limit like in Ebay, but you'd still be missing out on last-minute strategy changes if you weren't at the draft.

Well it's not really a draft, it's really like Ebay, if you're not there in time to make a last-minute bid then bad luck! Too late.

Aside from all discussion about which format is the better one, I think what caused a lot of the moaning about the salary cap was the fact that it was shoved down all our throats.
As I said in another thread, we were all enjoying the game as it was and looking forward to the improvements that the admins said they would be making to it. But there was no mention of removing said game and giving us something completely different, not until 2-3 weeks prior to the switch.
For the casual mogul this proved little more than a slight inconvenience at learning the strategy of a new game. Of course, that was what the switch was aimed at, a game more catered to the casual player, people who are just surfing by the site but might be willing to sign up if too much of their time isn't required.
But for some of us who have been playing fantasy leagues for a long time, or who had created a long term FM game, this change was very off-putting. It was made more so by the fact that FM left nothing of the draft format for us to use.
I'm not looking for a complete reversal here. I, and I know quite a few others, would really appreciate having the draft method with customizable season lengths returned to us. It's clear that the salary cap is here to stay, for whatever reason. Fine, the two can coexist. I just don't know how long the members of my league, or others preferring the draft for that matter, are going to want to stick around here if some kind of bone isn't thrown to us in the near future.

There are still Draft leagues around, Prospero. I'm in three draft leagues that are stretched across the summer, some finishing up at the end of September.
I guess you just missed out.
I imagine once the Salary cap system is fully functioning, Fantasy Moguls will start on bringing back the draft system.

Hey 699, clarify a point for me. In your first post you state that the "salary" version of this game is the fairest, but would join a draft league as long as you didn't pick last. But in your response to Prosp, you state that you are in 3 draft leagues.............so exactly which do you really like?
I'm in agreement with Prosp on his gripe. One of the reasons my league didn't opt for the Feb to Sept Ultimate game was the limited amount of movies to everyones slate. I could be wrong, but I believe that there was no increase from 6. We decided that it would make for a better game to play the game in the quarterly fashion, so we wouldn't have to wait months for movies to get released. We anticipated a May-Sept season and then an Oct-Dec (like the original in 06) to complete our season. Everyone having slates of 18 total movies for the year.
So then we got blindsided by the salary cap. We're willing to work around this if given proper controls. I truly hate the fact that the season ends in late July with several movies being of no game consequence for us. But, I've stated my case elsewhere and anything else I have to say will be :beatdead: beating a dead horse.

I also meant to remark on Tuan idea. Actually playing a movie league using traditional Rotisserie Auction rules has its merits. But it would really require everyone to be in the same room, otherwise your draft could take weeks. But to do it with a traditional $260 cap would be interesting, especially if you could control the season and the slate.

Hi Cheever, I like to play in both leagues. I've been in the draft sunner leagues since MArch, before I knew about the Salary cap mode. I'm in 5 Salary cap leagues, which is a rough indicator of where my preference lay. I think salary cap is fairer and will dedicate most of my time on these leagues. I will however still play draft because it has some merits

I have to agree with number six. The salary cap leagues seem much fairer, but the draft leagues do have some merits as well. Overall though, I think I would prefer to play in the salary cap game because you can involve more people in your league. I do like the idea of a hybrid league but the procedural problems may be too much to overcome. A bidding draft with a salary cap would be a good option if the wrinkles could be ironed out. But ultimately, I think the best thing would be the option to choose whichever type of league you wanted to play in giving each player a diversity of choices to find the one the fits most suitably.

If you are referring to draft leagues on FM, that drafted even though they were bound by the salary cap limitation, then no I did not miss out. I am playing in one right now. That's one of the reasons I continue to post my grievances to the forums.
We are trying to continue our year-long, draft style, competition under the salary cap format. But it caused some major problems during the actual draft. It was difficult for most players to find 8 unique movies that came in under $100. So some of us wanted to limit everyone's slate to only 6. But some were able to get 8 films, so they wanted to be able to use the entire cap. Now some of the studios in this league have 5 movies, some have 8, some have 6. With the IMDB avgerages being divided by 8, no matter what, that makes things even more unbalanced and gives us yet another problem to work around.
But I don't understand how you are in draft leagues that don't close until Sept. Did you open the league before FM made the switch?

Hi Prospero,
Yeah, around January/February you were able to set up draft leagues anytime from Feb to the last week in October.
I see your problem with trying to keep a draft style game in the salary cap format. It just won't work. I'm sure the draft will come back shortly, though.

I'm a little confused by the changes. I haven't had to do a draft since Feb.
So, if I am in a new league w/up to 50 players and so far 3 of 7 have chosen Harry Potter who actually ends up with movie?
