The Fantasy Mogul Film Institute Presents 50 Movies, 50 States
I love the AFI list specials and top whatever lists in general, so I decided to start this. Here's how it goes. We'll do the 50 states alphabetically one at a time--I'll warn you first that this will take forever. I'll open up the state for nominations.
NOMINATIONSTo be nominated as the best movie set in that state, the movie must take place in that state more than any other location including--but not limited to--other states, other countries, at sea, in the air, on another planet, in space, or at the center of the earth (lol). Post nomination, the movies can be seconded.
CONSOLIDATIONI'll take all of the movies that have been seconded and put them in a poll. You must get a majority to win the poll. If no majority happens, I will recreate the poll and drop the low ones until one wins or they tie.
I thought it was more complicated than that, but I guess not. When a movie wins, I will keep a list here for reference.
I am officially opening up nominations for Alabama.
Now that that is done, I'm nominating "Forrest Gump"

I will second To Kill a Mockingbird. That was a great movie. I would have went with Gump but so much of it takes place outside of Alabama that I had to disqualify it.

I pick To Kill A Mockingbird.
Talladega Nights shouldn't count. I don't even think it's even focused in Alabama (in fact, Daytona Nights* would have been more appropriate).

I didn't realize Mockingbird was Alabama--I thought it was GA. Though MOST of Forrest Gump wasn't set in Alabama, its set there more than anywhere else, but its really the central location for the story. Gump is Alabama and vise-versa. "(I think) you should go back to Greenbow... ALABAMA!!!"... "Where are you boys from in the world?" "Alabama, sir!" "You twins?" "We are of no relation sir."
It starts there, ends there, and always goes back there.
That said, I'm voting for Mockingbird

Nominations will close for Alabama at Midnight EST. I'll put a poll up then, although I know who's going to win. I'll also open up Alaska then.

I'm going with Big Fish, though the GF wants me to say Fried Green Tomatoes. It's her guilty pleasure. But Big Fish it is.
