In both leagues, for value, risk and payoff
There is a real mixed bag here, one wonders which one is the one?

(ULT){BO} [MOVIE] [DATE] (WEEKS)

($20){$11} Tyler Perry's The Family.. - Sept 12 (3 weeks)
($1{$2} Blindness - Sept 19 (2w)
($17){$8} Passengers - Sept 5 (4w)
($16){$4} The Women - Sept 12 (3w)
($14){$2} The Duchess - Sept 19 (2w)
($13){$2} Choke - Sept 26 (1w)
($11){$5} Lakeview Terrace - Sept 19 (2w)
($11){$2} Towelhead - Sept 12 (3w)
($9) {$3} Eagle Eye - Sept 26 (1w)
($9) {$3} Igor - Sept 19 (2w)
($ {$5} My Best Friends Girl - Sept 19 (2w)
($ {$4} Ghost Town - Sept 19 (2w)
($7) {$3} Taken -Sept 19 (2w)
($7) {$4} Nights in Rodanthe - Sept 26 (1w)
($4) {$2} The Accidental Husband - Sept 5 (4w)
($4) {$5} Bangkok Dangerous - Sept 5 (4w)
($2) {$4} Righteous Kill - Sept 12 (3w)

So if you had to make a pick or two for both leagues, what would you choose? Im tempted to take Righteous Kill, Ghost Town and Eagle Eye but there is a lot more to offer here...

Also i heard the other day: 'you must watch ALL types of film to be a film lover, if you dont thats like saying im a booklover but only read the bestsellers'. So is it true? To be a film lover you must watch even the bad ones, the old ones, the genres you hate and the actors you cant stand! Well i love films but i dont watch too much horror, and i hate watching chick flicks and ive got heaps more to cover from the old days so i think the comment was referring more to a film critic, not so much lover, what do you think?

Eagle Eye is can't miss in both formats.

Tyler Perry always has consistent openings above 20 mill but will take a serious IMDB hit and legs are question

Blindness goes wide the last weekend of the season so it could steal some nice money for $2 if handled correctly

I still think Towelhead will make a good PTA pick despite it's delays

My Best Friends Girl probably equals Good Luck Chuck

Anyways, last September was full of bombs but this one looks much better(even though some slate makers are missing from the starting lineup)

BLINDNESS might be good for $2 in b.o., but for $18 in ultimate leagues, it's horrible. And you'd only be getting 3 weeks. There's obvious comparisons to CHILDREN OF MEN, but that bombed and it came out Christmas Day...and the most important difference, it was good! I really Mierelles, but I'm hearing awful things about it and how can it live up to a Pulitzer prize-winning novel? I just have serious reservations about this one. Anything that opens Cannes will not succeed. Look at the track record.

A lot of the good low price BO films like Eagle Eye, Igor, and Bangkok Dangerous look good. Blindness would be terrible to take in Ultimate. Tyler Perry would be good only in BO, definitely not in Ultimate.

And on the second point, I think its complete bullshit. Watch the films that appeal to you and don't worry about the garbage. A film lover is someone who has a passion for watching movies. If you are passionate about your favorites, which you obviously are considering the Username and the fact that you are here, you are a movie lover.

Righteous Kill is your best pick. The first two teamings between De Niro and Pacino were The Godfather Part II and Heat. This is a can't miss pick. Plus it's been advertising since March and as the release date gets nearer, ads and awareness should increase.

More Good Picks:
The Family That Preys- Tyler Perry is always easy money.
Lakeview Terrace- thrillers do well in down months and this is no exception. I think this is Neil LaBute's comeback film (after rewrites and overcontrolling producers killed The Wicker Man).
Igor- it's a kids' film and it stars John Cusack and Steve Buscemi. Plus they made Frankenstein's assistant lovable in a way.
Nights In Rodanthe- it's Nicholas Sparks. His last three adaptations (Message In A Bottle, A Walk To Remember, The Notebook) were all box office hits and it should a decent campaign. Plus, the women love romance films with Richard Gere.
Bangkok Dangerous- it will take Number 1 opening weekend. It's basically the only film opening and it's an action film.

Unsure:
The Women
Choke
Ghost Town- there have been no ads so far and Gervais' other film opening a week later (How To Lose Friends And Alienate People) sounds better. But once ads come out, that could change.
Taken- Luc Besson usually delivers and it's got Liam Neeson. But a crowded date and the possibility of pirate copies (from France) entering the US could hurt it.

Bad Picks:
Blindess- the studio is mismarketing this as horror and to a teen audience. As a result, word-of-mouth will be horrible.
Passengers- this actually opens in October anyway.
The Duchess- the fact that it's opening in September tells you it's a dud.
Towelhead- festival reaction was poor and the title is unappealing. Plus Warner Bros. tends to be poor with limited releases of smaller films.
My Best Friend's Girl- wow, was Kate Hudson this desperate for money? After he escaped last year unscathed, Dane Cook will finally have a bomb with this rehash his other rom-coms.
The Accidental Husband- multiple delays, a near-moribund studio and the fact that it will be available for import before opening are a few reasons this will flop. Also, early reaction from its foreign release is bad. Expect a quick death and the Region 1 DVD in December.

The best picks look to be:

Tyler Perry in BO: Only $11 and it'll probably reach anywhere from $40-$60 by the end of September.

Eagle Eye: Trailers are amazing for this and getting a great reaction. Plus Shia LaBeouf is box office gold.

My Best Friend's Girl: A thoughtless rom-com starring relatively good looking people in September usually pulls in some good money. And at only $8/$5, it's something you can't NOT take. Similar to the $9 What Happens In Vegas....

Still on the fence:

Bangkok Dangerous: Nic Cage is poison money-wise, and this looks like another one of his run-of-the-mill bullshit movies. But it's during the barren September, so you never know.

Righteous Kill: I think DeNiro and Pacino are WAAAY past their primes and this is too late to be a big deal anymore. Plus, this has 88 Minutes 2 written all over it. But I'm not totally ruling it out.

Oh.

But as said, Ghost Town needs to step up on its ads to be any sort of success.

I'd say that the best bets would be Eagle Eye and Bangkok Dangerous...
People might say that they hate most of Nicolas Cage's more recent movies, but somebody's seeing them. Ghost Rider pulled in way more than it rightfully should have...and Shia is the go-to guy right now. I mean, two back to back $300mil summers and a third next year? I'll be taking anything with him in it for the next few months...

Yeah, even Next brought in about $18m in the graveyard position at the end of April. I think for its price it should equal its worth. Eagle Eye also looks very good in BO, not so sure about Ultimate yet, may wait till it gets closer to release date. Righteous Kill also looks good value, as does Igor and Taken. No big breakout hits, but a lot of decent money makers nevertheless.

Righteous Kill is getting a 4.3 imdb user rating, whats with that? And hasn't the director done something with Al Pacino already, '88 Minutes'. Haven't seen it, heard it was bad and it did manage to ruin a couple of my slates. On the flip side, its got De Niro, who should paired up with Pacino more Often because Heat was great. And it is cheap, just $2 in Ultimate and $4 in BO

I didn't know "The Passengers" moved to October. That sucks. I thought it could've done pretty well. Hathaway definitely has a higher profile now, and the premise sounds like something that audiences, but especially females would eat up.

Passengers sounds too similar to Red Eye. And Flightplan. And every other thriller set on a plane. They should put it out of its misery and send it straight-to-video.

The Family That Preys- His movies are always solid and this one has something the others never did...white people! And not the villains either. This movie has the cross over appeal the others have been lacking. Thanks to that and a solid trailer I see an opening of 28mill and a 75mill total

Lakeview Terrace- I really liked the trailer for this...it looked marginally original and quite interesting. I think it can manage a 20mill opening wkend

Igor- Seriously underestimated comes off a lot like Nightmere before hristmas and a release before Halloween and being the only kids film should ensure a large gross.

Nights In Rodanthe- Nicholas Sparks + Diane Laine+ Romance= moderate hit

Bangkok Dangerous- This will be a giant bomb! It movd from its summer release date against the likes of Death Race. I dont see this being any better than Next

The Women- After Sex and the City I really think this can pull in a large audience of women. The ones who thought Sex and the City was to risque and want to try the movie night like everyone else and the women who lovd sex and the city and want to go out with their friends again. It also has the added sex appeal of Eva Mendes to drag in a few hapless men, Debra Messing for the gays, Meg Ryan from the older crowd that remembers her pre-crowe days, and Jada Pinket Smith for the african american audience. It wont breakout like Sex did....it not based a popular tv show, but the strong cast and sex sentiment should help bridge the gap.

Choke- no opinion

Ghost Town- the trailer was promising and I like Tea Leoni alot. I think it could be a lot bigger than we are expecting. I wish was inoctober though...but if it opens big enough it will still be in play.

Taken- I like the trailer and the cast but it is on a really crowded release date and might get lost. It feels like a second rate Dont Say a Word, it even has Famke Janssen as the hot wife of another old guy.

Blindess- I really dont know...I loved the book so I will remain optimistic, screw the french, even Children of Men made over 30mill.

The Duchess- I really like Keira some im hoping it does well. HOPING I think it will be somewhere in between Silk and Pride and Prejudice. It should get some decent PTA and IMDB. I think it will be very similair to Marie Antoinette. I jst wish Keira would just play Princess Diana already! all they have to do is say "look keira it is kind of a period piece" and she will do it.

Towelhead- no opnion i dont really follow the art house stuff

My Best Friend's Girl- I thought the trailer was horrible. But Kate Hudson is a lot bigger of a draw than Alba so put it in the same range as Chuck and forget it quickly. Someone please make Kate Hudson watch Almost Famous...she is so much better than this.

The Accidental Husband- I doubt it will even stay on this date, the weinsteins have screwed this one. Quentin save Uma again please.

Eagle Eye- It is gonna be big, I think biggest september opening ever.

Rightous Kill- will do much better than 88 minutes. I see a 40mill final.

St.Anna- I dont like the release date for a prestige war film so we shall see.

so here is my early way over the top predictions. haha wouldnt that be a nice september. Odds are thought that a few of them end up being right...but which ones?

Eagle Eye 37.1m 126.7m
Igor 27.3m 118.9m
Women 35.9m 104.1m
TP Family 29.6m 74.2m
Rodanthe 16.4m 66.9m
Ghost 18.1m 64.2m
Terrace 17.9m 44.1m
Righteous 15.8m 40.5m
BF's Girl 14.9m 35.2m
Blindness ?? 28.1m
Duchess ? 23.1m
Taken 8.2m 21.5m
Bangkok 7.7m 19.5m
Husband 4.4m 14.9m
