Children Of Men
Brokeback Mountain
The Queen
Babel
Moulin Rouge
Chicago
Casino Royale[i still liked it but my friends told me it was the best bond film ever not even close]

For the moment, all the movies listed are good to wonderful films in my taste, except too I totally agree with you guys :
CHICAGO and A BEAUTIFUL MIND.

And I'll also add :
300, fun but quickly forgotten
DREAMGIRLS, long and uninteresting
INLAND EMPIRE, I love Lynch but it's an awful auto-parody
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, chick flick all over
WORLD TRADE CENTER, so emotionnally disgusting makes me wanna throw up
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 1&2 (and possibly 3 soon), uninventive, predictable, boring
SHREK 2 not even funny
CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, fun during 20 minutes, running in circles during 2 hours

I stop here, but the list could go on..

I agree with The Queen especially, just because Helen Mirren gave a great performance doesn't mean it was a great movie. And it wasn't.

Moulin Rouge shouldn't be taken too seriously, just sit back and relax and you'll have a blast.

It's funny how David Lynch fans are always split every time one of his films comes out. I've had friends who have been saying he's parodying himself with Lost Highway, others saying it happened with Mulholland Dr, etc.

I liked INLAND EMPIRE. I think it's difficult at first, and maybe too long, but I think it's just like Muilholland Drive, you've got to find the core and then it starts making sense. Some of his scenes are referential, but he's the most intuitive film-maker around, and I love that he's using DV.

Agreed on: BABEL, POTC 1&2, 300, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN

Comments: BABEL- Hated the Japanese storyline. Didn't fit at all within the 3 other storylines, which we heavily connected to each other.

POTC 1&2- Not since "Mission: Impossible" (any of 'em) have I not looked forward to a Memorial Day movie. Until this year. "Dead Man's Chest" was so long and boring. Not to mention being endingless.

BROKEBACK- Great pacing and mood, but the story had a lot to be desired. Ang Lee made a better homosexual love story in THE WEDDING BANQUET.

I agree with everyone except Chienfantome. those are all really good movie except wtc, dreamgirls, devil wears prada(super gay), and charlie and the chocolate factory. 300 kicked major ass. We still talk about it at our theater. In fact someone brought it up while we were previewing spiderman 3. I believe they said it's too bad we don't still have 300 or else we could be watching that. Pirates wasn't the greatest movies but they're alot better than half the other shit that's been coming out recently. Which is probably why its been doing so well.

Yeah just because the father was the owner of the gun doesn't mean it's really his fault. I think that Japanese part was meant to be showing the communication barriers and challenges that deaf people face. So it really shouldn't have tied in any way to the rest of the movie. Just felt like it was tacked on.

300? Oh yes. Cool visuals, but as for substance or story . . .

Sorry Crazy, but 300 IS shallow, and POTC ARE predictable and boring. Peter Weir's Master & Commander : now that's excitment, that's adventure, that's cinema.

I disagree with BOTH of you

300 is over-rated. Sure it's entertaining action for 100 minutes, but it's utterly forgettable.

But Master and commander? Now that was just boring, and spoke nothing to me about nothing, to incorporate double-negatives into my argument.

It's laughable that "300" and "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" are uttered in the same breath.

"300" is good for its technology, but not "great" because it depends solely on that technology to tell the story. ANY movie that heavily dependent on technology will be bad. And was I the only one that offput by the whole digital blood splatter? Man, it looked so "1970's"-ish it was ridiculous.

People who love "Master and Commander" are probably the same ones that can appreciate "Citizen Kane". It's fine if you weren't blown away by "Master", but it was incredibly well-done and carried more story the first 5 mins than 120 mins of "300". I'm just proud that a movie with so much substance got a budget that large with a prime holiday release, so what if it took 3 major studios to make it.

Citizen Kane is one of my favourite movies, and my appreciation of it has nothing to do with appreciating Master and Commander. The latter has little to offer visually and little to say.
