I'm playing in the May-July ultimate leagues, and I was wondering why this movie is not available to choose. It opens on July 11th, so you should be able to pick it.

Back when that round was being created, it was still reported to be opening on August 8th. But usually when release dates change, the titles in that round stay put.

The less Brendan Fraser, the better. You're better off not having it.

Erm. My response to the title of this thread WAS going to be, "Because... it'll really, really, really SUCK," and then I remembered: Beowulf.
Look... I like Brendan Fraser. I really, really, REALLY like the concept of a new-look Journey to the Center of the Earth. But, together... Put it this way: It ain't Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
I submit that Jon Favreau would have known what to do with this film. James Cameron, too. Gulliermo Del Toro, absolutely. Eric Brevig? Might as well have been Alex Proyas, or Simon Wells.
I remain, as always...
Nico.

Dude, Journey to the Center of the Earth looks awesome. The parts that I have seen on the big screen, combined with the greatness that I know Real-D is, equals a moviegoing experience for people my age. I mean, dinosaurs about to eat you, pirannas flying at the screen, and in the best 3-D of all time? YEAH!

Look, if we're excluding movies because they suck, then Hottie and the Nottie should never have been available.
But in all seriousness, this was a movie I was looking forward to put on my slate. If it's available on Box Office Moguls, then why isn't it available on Ultimate?
Not an unreasonable question, tbh.

Nico, Alex Proyas directed The Crow and Dark City. He shouldn't be grouped into the crappy directors group.
And I remember seeing the 3-D teaser back in October and I do agree the 3-D is terrific. Every single small detail is in 3-D! They really went the extra mile here.

Responding...
J.I., I wish I had your faith. I just don't. Sorry. The movie you're describing DOES sound substantially kick-ass. I just don't think that movie is Journey 3-D, is all.
I'll be happy to be proven wrong, however. Like I said, I like Brendan.

[Chuckling] Oh, tew-shay. Point very well taken.
And, you're right, it's [i]NOT an unreasonable question. (I still like my tongue-in-cheek answer, tho.)
Buscemi: (One of my very favorite handles, btw... I don't know that I'm ever going to afflict YOU with a Nico-name...)
I'm not a fan of The Crow -- a hugely overrated film in my book, much like Pulp Fiction -- , but I DO love Dark City. However, in my opinion I, Robot was such a total and unremitting disaster, such a complete and steaming piece of shit irrevocably corrupting the memory of the novel it stole its name from, that it pretty much immediately disqualifies Proyas from serious further consideration as an auteur of any stripe whatsoever. Much like The Happening may inflict permanent damage on M. Night Shyamalan's flickering career.
What can I say? I'm the Barry (Jack Black, from High Fidelity) of film.
"It's tacky, sentimental crap. Do we look like the kind of store that sells 'I Just Called to Say I Love You'? Go to the mall."
I remain, as always...
Nico.

Brendan Fraser is okay, I guess. I don't really like any of his movies except "The Mummy" and its sequel, however I have a theory that my interest is solely based on Weisz's involvement. As far as 'Journey 3-D' goes, it looks terrible, but I'm sure it will pull through simply because it is 3-D and there's so much going on to keep the audience entertained.

Nico, I thought Buscemi already had a Nico-name; Boushh ?
Anyway, on topic, I love The Crow as well as Dark City, and will always remember Proyas for those movies ahead of his later work. This movie looks interesting, but i have absolutely no time whatsoever for Brendan Fraser, which will ultimately put me off it. However, it will definitely get the younger audiences in.

Herald: Oh, right. Damn. Damn damn. Boussh it is. [Sheepish grin]
I think Fraser really needs a challenge. Like, to play some sort of genuinely bad guy. He had an edge in Crash... He could benefit from the sort of role Tom Cruise took on in Collateral. But I'm looking forward to him in Journey 3-D about as much as I am Ben Stiller in Night at the Museum 2: Escape from the Smithsonian.
I remain, as always...
Nico.

I think that is exactly the problem I have with Fraser. I get the same kind of character in every movie he is in. He rarely steps outside his box and the films he chooses are generally very family orientated. He was ok in Crash, but felt he was overshadowed by some of the other performances, but he would really benefit from a decent gritty drama with a lot of character development. He's just too cardboard for me at the moment.
